Monday Saint Peter Chrysologus

(Fifth century) As bishop of Ravenna, Italy, he was outstanding in his apostolic zeal, for his preaching and his writings.

Tuesday Saint Ignatius of Loyola

(1491-1556) Born in Loyola, Spain, he became a soldier. Follow-ing his conversion, he went to Paris to study theology. There he gathered his first followers. With them he founded the Society of Jesus in Rome, which is dedicated to the greater glory of God and to the service of the Church, in total obedience to the Pope.

Wednesday Saint Alphonsus Mary de’Ligouri

(1696-1787) St Alphonsus was born in Naples, Italy. As a young man he was a lawyer, but later became a priest. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists). He was given the title Doctor of the Church for his writings on Moral Theology. A tireless apostle of the Eucharist and of our Blessed Mother, he worked with great zeal for the poor and the sick.

Thursday Saint Eusebius of Vercelli or of

Saint Peter Julian Eymard

(+371) St Eusebius was born in Sardinia and brought up in Rome. Around 340 he was named Bishop of Vercelli in Piedmont. He fought staunchly against the Arian heresy which denied the divinity of Christ. The Arians tortured and exiled him. (1811-1868) St Peter Julian Eymard was born at La Mure, Isere, France, and joined the Marist Fathers. He dedicated his life to promoting Eucharistic devotion and founded both the Congrega-tion of the Blessed Sacrament and the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament. Canonised in 1962 he is known as the ‘Apostle of the Eucharist’.

Friday First Friday

Saturday Saint John Mary Vianney

(1786-1859) He was born near Lyons, France and ordained a priest in Grenoble. He was assigned to the parish of Ars-sur-Froman where he spent forty two years. He was outstanding for his steadfast care of souls, for his spirit of prayer and mortifica-tion, but above all, for his tireless dedication to the Sacrament of Penance. He spent most of his life in the confessional, drawing energy from his intimate and constant friendship with our Lord in the Eucharist. Pope Pius XI declared him Patron of the Universal Clergy.
