Lord, we beseech thee, grant thy people grace to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil: and with pure hearts and minds to follow thee the only God; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen
First Reading Isaiah 25:6-10a
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all
peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of choice wines--
of fat things full of marrow, of choice wines well
refined. And he will destroy on this mountain the
covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is
spread over all nations. He will swallow up death for
ever, and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all
faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away
from all the earth; for the LORD has spoken. It will be
said on that day, "Behold, this is our God; we have
waited for him, that he might save us. This is the
LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and
rejoice in his salvation." For the hand of the LORD
will rest on this mountain.
8:00 am & 6:00 pm Masses only
Responsorial Psalm 23:1-6
R/. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want;
he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. R/.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me. R/.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. R/.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the
house of the Lord for ever. R/.
Chanted by the choir at the 10:30 am Mass
Gradual Psalm 122:1,7
I was glad when they said unto me:
we will go into the house of the Lord.
V. Peace be within thy walls:
and plenteousness within thy palaces.
Second Reading Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20
Brethren: I know how to be abased, and I know how to
abound; in any and all circumstances I have learned the
secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and
want. I can do all things in him who strengthens me.
Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. And my
God will supply every need of yours according to his
riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father
be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Alleluia verse for all Masses
Alleluia. Alleluia. The nations shall fear thy Name, O Lord: and all the kings of the earth thy majesty.
Alleluia
The Holy Gospel Matthew 22:1-14
At that time: Again Jesus spoke to the chief priests and
elders of the people, in parables, saying, “The kingdom
of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a
marriage feast for his son, and sent his servants to call
those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they
would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying,
'Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready
my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and
everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.'
But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm,
another to his business, while the rest seized his
servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
The king was angry, and he sent his troops and
destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready,
but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the
streets, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you
find.' And those servants went out into the streets and
gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so
the wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the
king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man
who had no wedding garment; and he said to him,
'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding
garment?' And he was speechless. Then the king said
to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him
into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping
and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few
are chosen.”

O Lord, who art ever merciful and bounteous with Thy gifts, look down upon the suffering souls in purgatory. Remember not their offences and negligences, but be mindful of Thy loving mercy, which is from all eternity. Cleanse them of their sins and fulfill their ardent desires that they may be made worthy to behold Thee face to face in Thy glory. May they soon be united with Thee and hear those blessed words which will call them to their heavenly home: “Come, blessed of My Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

To the Parishioners of St. Mary the Virgin,
This Sunday, October 15, Bishop Lopes of the Ordinariate has asked all priests to join with him in consecrating our Ordinari-ate of the Chair of Saint Peter to Mary’s Immaculate Heart by praying the prayer of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary written by St. John Paul II at the conclusion of the Sunday Masses. As Bishop Lopes has noted in communications to Ordinariate priests; “As you know, this year, the Church celebrates the 100th anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima. Pope Francis himself opened the celebrations on May 13, 2017, at a Mass in Fatima during which he canonized two of the three children to whom Our Lady appeared: Saints Francisco and Jacinta.”
“The message of Fatima is one of peace in the midst of the bloodiest century in human history, of penitence in the midst of rising secularism and hedonism, and of conversion in the midst of totalitarian and godless quests for power. In our own day, this message is all the more powerful and necessary. Also at the core of the Fatima message is consecration to the Immacu-late Heart of Mary, precisely as the means for achieving peace, penitence, and conversion. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of these apparitions, I would like to invite you to make this Marian consecration part of the spiritual growth of your Ordinariate community.
“The message of Our Lady at Fatima goes beyond the dramatic miracle of the sun or the mere fact of the apparition itself. Fatima is, in many respects, a summary or compendium of the Gospel. First, Mary exhorts the children to pray. As a kindly mother, she even taught the children how to pray, silently fingering rosary beads as the children recited their prayers aloud. Authentic devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is always ordered to a deeper relationship with God in Christ. It is no wonder, therefore, that in a graced moment of apparition Mary would exhort us to give more time to nurturing the essential relationship with God in prayer.
“At Fatima, Mary also exhorts us to engage in acts of penance and reparation. Ostensibly, the Blessed Virgin is addressing the violence and offenses against God present in our world. Remember, she appeared during the trauma of the First World War, with even greater horrors looming just on the horizon. Our personal acts of penance, when offered in the spirit of charity, can have a transformative effect on the whole of human society.
“That Mary revealed her loving presence to three little children is also significant, perhaps especially for us in the Ordinariate. Mary relied on children, whose faith was still “fresh” and not cynical, to relay her message to their families and surrounding community. Indeed, if it were not for the testimony of Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, none of us would have even heard of Fatima — no one would have gathered to witness the miracle of the sun and we would certainly not be reflecting on the relevance of Mary’s message 100 years later. At its heart, then, Fatima is missionary, relying on the simple witness of real people to communicate the profound truths of God and thereby draw others into a life-giving relationship with the Lord. We often talk about our life and discipleship in the Ordinariate as being missionary, both in terms of inviting more people to the great adventure of Catholic communion and by enriching the larger Catholic Church with the vitality of our faith and witness. Fatima is proof that even the most unlikely of missionaries can produce abundant fruit, if we but rely on the grace of God.
“May the virtues of Mary’s heart be born in each of us for the greater glory of God, the building up of the Church, and the spread of the Gospel !”
Sincerely yours in Christ, +Steven J. Lopes
