Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

We had another successful OPV event at Our Lady of Joy

last weekend. The first FREE spaghetti dinner had many

parishioners from all five parishes (almost 700 diners and

volunteers!). While the meal was free, the gift baskets, 50/50

and other side entertainment raised enough to cover the cost

of the supplies for the dinner and still make a small profit of

about $150. Kudos and credits to all those who volunteered

and attended, but especially Mark Tierno, who led the event

and recruited volunteers from all five parishes to assist. As

we continue to come together as one parish, we will be

holding more of these combined events. The Breakfast with

the Holy Spirit series continues each month. St. Irenaeus

preschool is also introducing a new event...Father/Daughter,

Mother/Son Dance. There is an upcoming blood drive for all

those willing to donate, a spiritual evening led by Regis

Flaherty, trip(s) to the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster,

PA to see the Story of Esther, and more.

Next month, we are introducing some special Game

Nights! On Leap Day, February 29, we will have a game

night for Youth and Young Adult families, that will include

Card Games and/or Board Games. We will also have

coloring books and games for children of young adult

families. This Youth and Young Adult night will be held at St.

Januarius Church Hall on Saturday, February 29 5-9

p.m. Another game night for Seniors (55+) will be held in the

afternoon on June 10 at St. Irenaeus. A game night for all

ages will be held in the fall at Our Lady of Joy (details to fol-

low when we have the Steeler schedule ).

We are also introducing/reintroducing a new communication

vehicle for all OPV parishioners who want to stay informed

about various issues in our communities. With 5 different

Churches and weekend Mass schedule, it is increasingly

difficult to communicate everything at weekend Masses.

There are some special communications that any parishioner

can sign up for. We will be establishing these

communications platforms soon. Here are some examples:

Notifications and Alerts to: (1) Special Speakers &

Presentations, (2) Volunteer Service needs & times,

    (3) Parishioner deaths, (4) updated prayer list, (5) Social

events & fundraisers, (6) Holy & Holiday Mass Schedules,

    (7) Holy Hour & Adoration times, (8) School events when

parishioners are invited, (9) CCD Schedule changes and

alerts due to weather, (10) bulletin emailed or a link to online

    bulletin sent in text message.

Flocknote is a way many churches use to communicate with

“the flock”. Anyone can simply sign up by texting

‘OPVCATHOLIC’ or ‘opvcatholic’ to 84576. Then, you will be

prompted to sign up for different communications that you

want to be alerted to. Anyone in Flocknote would

automatically be alerted to Mass changes due to weather or

special news, especially the announcement of our new parish

name in May. We will have several options as listed above

that you can select. The great advantage of Flocknote is that

email is not required. We can send messages to your mobile

phone, or email, whatever your preference. Our youth, young

adult and religious education (CCD) programs are using it

already. We will have a formal sign up on Ash Wednesday,

but you can sign up anytime you’re ready.

This weekend, we return to Ordinary Time; we return to

green. Let’s grow our community together in getting to know

one another in new places, and in learning to understand new

    ways to stay in touch.

    In Christ’s love,

    Fr. Kevin Poecking

    Administrator,

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR 2ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

    READING I IS 49:3,5-6

The LORD said to me: You are my servant, Israel, through whom I

show my glory. Now the LORD has spoken who formed me as his

servant from the womb, that Jacob may be brought back to him

and Israel gathered to him; and I am made glorious in the sight of

the LORD, and my God is now my strength! It is too little, the

LORD says, for you to be my servant, to raise up the tribes of

Jacob, and restore the survivors of Israel; I will make you a light to

the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 40:2, 4, 7-8, 8-9, 10

    R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

I have waited, waited for the LORD,

and he stooped toward me and heard my cry.

And he put a new song into my mouth,

    a hymn to our God.

    R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

Sacrifice or offering you wished not,

but ears open to obedience you gave me.

    Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not;

then said I, “Behold I come.”

    R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.

“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me,

to do your will, O my God, is my delight,

and your law is within my heart!”

    R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

    I announced your justice in the vast assembly;

I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.

    R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

    READING 2 1 COR 1:1-3

Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,

and Sosthenes our brother, to the church of God that is in Corinth,

to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy,

with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord

Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. Grace to you and peace from

God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

    R. Alleluia, alleluia. MT 9:7

The heavens were opened and the voice of the Father thundered:

This is my beloved Son, listen to him.

    R. Alleluia, alleluia.

    GOSPEL JN 1:29-34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

He is the one of whom I said, ‘A man is coming after me who

ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’ I did not know

him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he

might be made known to Israel.” John testified further, saying,

“I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain

upon him. I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize

with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down

and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”

Dios y Patria ¡o

    Muerte! Roberto”(1).
