HOWARD D. COHEN leads as the Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic | Pacific Companies and has served in this position for nearly 20 years. Mr. Cohen’s role includes the oversight of all affiliated companies, managing the company’s investments and creating strategic partnerships that further enhance the firm’s systematic and intelligent approach to delivering better results and a richer experience. Mr. Cohen has more than 25 years of real estate investment, real estate law and management experience.

Mr. Cohen, a Miami Beach native, graduated from Miami Beach Senior High in 1985, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1989, and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Miami in 1993 with Magna Cum Laude distinction. Mr. Cohen currently serves on the board of directors of Cornell University’s Center for Real Estate Finance, and on the Advisory Board of Temple Emanuel.

ALISON ROSENBERG COHEN was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She relocated to Florida to attend the University of Miami and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising and Marketing in 1988. From 1988-1991, Alison held multiple positions, including CEO with a restaurant company, Seashells, Inc., and was thereafter, a Director of a publicly traded company from 1991-1995, where she also held positions of President and Vice President of Marketing. Alison, along with her cousin, then opened and operated a children’s emporium called Twinkles.

Alison and Howard have lived in Miami since 1993, and are the proud parents of their children Matthew, Sam and Ellie, who all attended Miami Country Day School. Alison took a very active role sitting on the board there, as well as at other various organizations. Alison is currently on the Executive Committee of Kesher’s Board of Directors, where she has held many positions for nearly a decade. Alison and Howie have become an integral part of the Kesher family.

PATRICIA GOLDSMITH is Vice President of Operations for the flagship offices of Dr. G’s Weight Loss and Wellness, founded by her husband, Charles L. Goldsmith, MD. Dr. G’s has several offices, and is also a franchise company both nationally and internationally. Patricia is a Registered Nurse, who received her BSN degree from Miami Dade College School of Nursing. She received her surgical training at Jackson Memorial Hospital-Miami. Her professional experience in nursing has been both in the operating room, as well as in nursing administration since 1979. In 1994, Patricia began managing several offices of Dr. G’s Weight Loss and Wellness, alongside her husband, Dr. G. In addition to her career, Patricia’s commitment to her community continues on a daily basis, as she is involved in multiple organizations.

Kesher: Patricia is presently Chair of the Board of Directors, and has been an active board member for more than 20 years. Kesher is a school for children with learning disabilities, located on the campus of Scheck Hillel Community School.

Greater Miami Jewish Federation: She is an endowed Lion of Judah, as well as an active member of The Israel Oversees Committee, which allocates funds to programs in Israel that provide support for impoverished families and immigrants.

Women of Tomorrow Mentorship Program: Patricia continues to support this organization that mentors at risk high school young women. WOT provides guidance and support to continue education beyond graduation (i.e. scholarship funding etc.).

As a Friend of Sylvester, Patricia supports Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center-University of Miami.

Additionally, Patricia is currently President of the Board of Directors of Turnberry Ocean Colony, South Tower, in Sunny Isles Beach.

Patricia has been a resident of Miami since 3 years of age, and has lived with her family in Sunny Isles Beach since 2008. Patricia is a proud mother of twin boys, Kesher Alumni, Jonathan and David. Her step son, Jason and daughter in-law, Sasha have given her twin grandchildren, Jade and Jake, whom she adores.

COACH LEE DRESBACH Z”L

Our beloved COACH LEE dedicated his life to helping others. Lee Dresbach z”l began his lifelong love of service to others in 1970 when he proudly served as a medic in Vietnam, in the U.S. Air Force, earning two air evacuation medals for the hundreds of lives he saved, and the dignity he gave to those in their final moments. He returned to the States to pursue his dream to teach tennis, and was an early innovator of wheelchair tennis for the disabled through the United States Professional Tennis Registry. Nothing made him more proud than his family. He was a beloved father to Lauren, Lindsey and Casey Dresbach, and grandfather to Emma and Vivienne. The former Head Tennis Pro of the Doral Hotel in Miami, who worked under the auspices of the great Arthur Ashe, Lee later moved to New York City in 1984 and was the Tennis Professional of many stars and corporate leaders at the Vertical Club in New York, including Sumner Redstone, Harrison Ford and Dustin Hoffman, before returning to Florida in 1996. Since that time, Coach Lee had immersed himself in the North Miami Beach Jewish community as a tennis professional at the JCC, and the sports instructor for Kesher. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and developed close relationships with not only his students and clients, but their families as well. At the JCC, he was known for his costumes and creativity during carpool. He always welcomed campers and their families with a smile on his face, and a smile on his racket. He made everyone within Kesher feel at home with his warmth, compassion, and thoughtfulness. He would text families on special occasions, holidays, birthdays, or simply send a reminder to have a great day. You could always count on Coach Lee for his jokes and sharing a laugh. Coach Lee left an indelible mark on countless children and families in our community, and his presence will be sorely missed.

MESSAGE FROM RABBI DR. EZRA LEVYExecutive Director

The realities of today speak to the possibilities of tomorrow.We live in a world where it seems things are constantly changing. I am editing this message as the journal goes to print due to the current social distancing in which we live. For the first time since its inception, Kesher has had to cancel our largest fundraising event of the year. The Journal dinner has only one goal, to raise money to enable children from deserving families the ability to attend Kesher.

We have the luxury and privilege of being with our students every day; even now when we are doing classes online, we see the daily success our children achieve. The people touched by our amazing organization extend far beyond our students. Our children, their families, our dedicated staff, our community of lay leaders, volunteers and donors are all members of the Kesher family.

You are individuals who care, give of your time, money, and self, in ways unmeasurable. Please know that we, on campus, have you to thank for the miracles performed daily. We have the task of taking each day and making it a new beginning for our students because of you. You inspire, motivate, influence and embolden us to continue shaping and molding the future generations of this amazing community.

You are our Kesher family, and our thoughts, prayers and well wishes are with you.

Our world can only be enhanced through a team effort. This is a belief and concept with which we live and breathe at Kesher. Watching our students and teachers share the classroom every day, brings a sense of pride and joy in knowing that we are truly shaping the future. Our best efforts are constantly enhanced by generous

individuals, other local organizations, the continued support of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, and our host school, Scheck Hillel Community School.

This is my 25th year at Kesher. I look back and I see Kesher’s growth with the same lens I view that of my family because for me the two are synonymous. I thank our families for trusting us with their precious children. And I thank my own family for allowing me to be a part of something truly wonderful for the past 25 years. I have had the privilege of being at Kesher for more than half of my life. The personal benefit and growth that surround all who are part of the Kesher family allow us to see how we enhance our student’s lives at the same time we take a step back to understand how the students have changed our lives and made us better individuals.

With this appreciation in mind I would like to thank everyone who participated in this journal. Though the event has been cancelled, our need for fundraising continues, now even more than in the past. And we thank all of you who have participated by placing ads in honor of Alison and Howard Cohen, Patricia Goldsmith, and in memory of our beloved Coach Lee Dresbach z”l. These most deserving individuals have dedicated so much of their lives to our children and their families.

On behalf of our students and their families, please allow me to personally thank you for having gone above and beyond in support of our school and our children.

MESSAGE FROM EILEEN GINZBURGAssistant Director

Throughout my life, 20/20 was the number I was hoping for when visiting my eye doctor. That number represented clarity of vision. Now it is the year 2020, and it is still about vision - the vision that our Kesher leadership team possesses to take this special school into the future! Our commitment to educating the whole child emotionally, spiritually and academically, is always at the forefront of what we do each day. I have been blessed these past twenty years to work with a dynamic team of educators from both Kesher and Hillel. This team of compassionate, professional and committed educators collaborates continuously to ensure that we are providing cutting edge programming for our students. This would be incomplete without the partnership of our parent body that has the responsibility to advocate for their children while celebrating the strides made with their team of teachers. I have been blessed to have spent over half of my life on the Hillel campus where our students are an integral part of the Hillel family. Hillel has embraced our students as their own.

We couldn’t do all that we do each day without the support of our Board of Directors. They are the ones who ensure that we have the resources to create the Kesher Magic! Patricia Goldsmith and her family have been integral members of the Kesher family for more than 20 years. Patty leads our Board with professionalism, insight and knowledge that have truly enabled us to provide our students with the faculty, technology, curriculum materials and community support needed to achieve excellence. Patty - I adore you and thank you for always being there for us!!

We also recognize Alison and Howard Cohen, committed members of our board for nearly a decade. My relationship with the Cohens extends back to their days as new parents when I had the pleasure of teaching their children in my mommy and me program at Beth Torah. Thank you for all that you do for Kesher!

Finally, it is with love and a heavy heart that we honor our beloved Coach Lee Dresbach z”l. My relationship with Lee began when our children, Lindsey and Michael, were together in the early childhood years at Hillel. Our kids were BFFs and Lee became a friend as well. When the need for a coach arose, there was no question Lee would be the perfect fit. We were blessed to have his love and adoration of our students during the past 18 years. He was able to connect with our students and make them feel like star athletes! Coach Lee has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his Kesher family. Like the 20/20 I hoped to receive from the eye doctor, our honorees represent the clarity and the commitment our school needs to continue on its mission for this next decade. Mazel tov to all!!

Dear Lauren, Lindsey & Casey,As I'm certain you know, your father was instrumental in many children's growth. He visited our home every weekend for more than 10 years. Yes, he taught tennis and brought donuts and told the best jokes. We also remember Coach Lee Dresbach z”l whose passing was a loss for our community and particularly for the many children whose lives he touched. We extend a special mazal tov to our dear friend, honoree Patricia Goldsmith, recipient of the 2020 Service Award, for her devotion to Kesher and as a vital member of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Her leadership on the Federation Israel and Overseas Committee and her generosity as a member of the Lion of Judah Endowment Society strengthens our Jewish community.

Kesher’s commitment to the religious and secular educational, social and spiritual needs of every child underscores the value of inclusion.
