The Chatterbox StoryWhen Mandarin Orchard Singapore opened its doors in 1971 along Singapore’s world-renowned shopping belt, Orchard Road, the hotel also introduced its 24-hour coffee house, Chatterbox. Its menu featured a spread of local hawker food—the first for any five-star hotel’s dining outlet in Singapore at the time.

Chatterbox quickly became the talk of the town, and among the best-selling items on its menu were the Mandarin Chicken Rice, Chatterbox Lobster Laksa, King Prawn Fried Hokkien Noodles, and Homemade Coconut Ice Cream in Young Coconut.

Ever mindful of its roots and keeping emphasis on family dining, Chatterbox re-emerged every so often with an updated interpretation of a typical “Singapore House”—modernising its ambience and food presentation, all while retaining the authenticity of its signature recipes and time-honoured flavours.

Almost five decades on, Chatterbox remains a must-visit for those seeking an authentic Singapore dining experience. Ardent fans run the gamut of foodies and famous personalities, locals and foreigners alike.

In 2012, Chatterbox was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Heritage Brands by the Singapore Prestige Brand Award, demonstrating its impact as a homegrown Singaporean brand.
