Encouragement AwardEach year an award is given to the most improved swimmer in the club. Inaugurated by Gordon Stuart & was initially selected by Gordon & his anonymous panel of judges, this prestigious award is not taken lightly. In fact, it is the best award for recognition within the club in terms of its aims – for the individual to better his own times. So, this year’s winner John Elliott won 12 towels In the 100 he was handicapped in January at 99.5s & swam a +0.25s. By the Memorial Final he was on 93.5s & swam a -3.13s. Similarly, in the 200 he was on 4.00 & swam +4.53. Of late he was on 3.40 & swam -5.07s. As an aside he was the most disqualified swimmer for breaking time during the year.A very worthy winner.

MONTHLY RESULTSThe winner of the Monthly Point Score for November was Sid Hammond with 47 points. Runners up were Peter Flood (46), Johnn Keevers (44), Ian McLennan & Michael Sterndale-Smith (42) & Michael Slattery (41).

Cheetah of the YearThere is one Cheetah who is there every week, putting the lanes down, assisting the Race Secretaries, recording the race results, sometimes assisting the Treasurer, sometimes starting the races,(arguing with the starter!!, winning plenty of races!!!) & that is why Fred Geddes was awarded Cheetah of the Year. Well done Fred.

Galah of the YearThere were 4 candidates.... Manuel Silva ... a relay was about to start, Manuel was at the other end of the pool as the 2nd swimmer, the starter’s gun fires, they’re off .....the 1st swimmer in Manuel’s team is in the pool & so is Manuel at the other end ...a collision loomed !!!!!!!!!Steve Mathews....our dear leader has been on a health kick of late to overcome the excesses of his recent sojourn into Ireland & Europe. However there are spies everywhere & he was spotted outside Baker’s Delight drooling over the vast abundance of delicacies in the shop window Being an old copper he was adamant he was on undercover surveillance duties.Michael Slattery.....Slatts is a perennial nominee for his past deeds. It’s best to discuss with our esteemed practitioner of the law the reasons why he is such a nominee !!Bob Kirby..... was so intent on bucketing everyone else on the Presentation Night that he inadvertently nominated himself as the Galah of the Year.....say no more !!!!!A worthy winner !!!!!

SHAFTED.... WHAT A GALAH !!

IN THE JUNGLEIn the greatest days of the British Empire, a new commanding officer is sent to a jungle outpost in Africa to relieve the retiring colonel. After welcoming his replacement & showing the traditional courtesies (cucumber sandwiches washed down with a gin & tonic), the retiring colonel says: “You must meet my right hand man, Captain Dithers. His talent is simply boundless.”Dithers is summoned & the new CO is soon stunned to be introduced to a toothless, hairless, scabbed & pock-marked specimen of humanity – no more than 90 cm tall – with wildly crossed eyes & ears that droop to his shoulders.

“Dithers, old man,” the old colonel says, “tell your new CO about yourself.”“Well, sir, I graduated with honours from Sandhurst, joined the regiment & won the Military Cross & bar after 3 expeditions behind enemy lines. I’ve represented Great Britain in equestrian events & won a silver medal in the middleweight division of the Olympics. I’ve researched the history of........”“Yes, yes, yes, never mind all that Dithers,” the colonel interrupts impatiently, “the CO can find all that in your file. Tell him about the day you told the witch doctor to get stuffed”.

The Chatter’s editorial staff has delved into the archives & come up with the results of the Club Championships of 1990......

from the

archives

Our Man in Asia (aka MNG, Nose etc etc) was recently on a secret mission up there & sent a message to all & sundry advising his whereabouts...“sitting on Chaweng Beach, about to go for a swim of some kms in the crystal clear waters of Gulf of Thailand.......”Our operatives in the area advise that after he left the locals had to change the name to Chinwag Beach!!!!!!!!

Peter Miller recently took on all comers at Hamilton Island a couple of weeks ago in the annual Triathlon/Ocean Swim event. In the 2km ocean swim he came 77th overall with a time of 35:43.Just to top the weekend off he competed in the triathlon & came 119th overall & 13th in age group in a time of 1:44:01.

Talking of triathlons, Darrin Jones recently competed in the Callala Beach Triathlon (why do we have a triathlon at Callala... we locals want to keep this place a secret!!!!!!)

Racing commentators across the country are chasing Bob Kirby for his tips these days following his fearless selections in this year’s Melbourne Cup. Winners are grinners.

Talking of the horses, our Dear Leader was ecstatic to know that his horse, No Doubt a Diamond, would be racing on Melbourne Cup Day.....................at Kembla Grange. Winners are grinners though when it won $$$$$$$$$$$$$ & has followed up with another win of late.

Has the recent absences of some of our members from the northern hemisphere been noticed? Wouldn’t be anything to do with a major sporting event being played at present.....would it?

There’s a video on YouTube of our winning Open Relay team at the recent 2 Tatts event. Check it out on this site..................http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r2a0mVbsbU&feature=em-upload_ownerAlso there is footage of the other relays on You Tube which can be viewed on the following sites.......over 40shttp://youtu.be/ifhVLEtYqsQover 50shttp://youtu.be/y7nM_kJjg_Aover 60shttp://youtu.be/ifhVLEtYqsQover 70shttp://youtu.be/0OLfScSJmd0

NEW MEMBERSHow do we get new members? Give some thought to this age old problem & let your committee know what you think (they’re the ones who win all the races!!!)Also, wouldn’t it be good to see some of those members return who haven’t been poolside for a while?

TRIVIACourtesy of Column 8 in SMH.......”We ask readers to compose a sentence in fewer than 25 words that, while making perfect sense today would have been incomprehensible in 1983. An example would be: “would you please unplug your mobile so that I can recharge my cigarette?”Another would be ......”The Storm were penalised by the pocket ref for a grapple tackle however have brilliantly recovered with a 40/20 just prior to the players having a drinks break”.
