Mission and Vision:

• Empowerment of the society through providing quality education services to out of school children.

• Mass mobilization of society to raise awareness on their entitlements through education, advocacy, information dissemination and campaigns.

• Making local self-governance informative and responsive to the society

Objectives

q Facilitating personal growth, education and rehabilitation of abused and potential child labour.

q Providing need based non-formal education, healthcare, nutrition and personality development.

q Mainstreaming them into formal education system. q Imparting vocational skill training related to the occupational

culture. q Creating awareness to demand full observance of labour

standards.

Target Group

q Boys and girls - Out of school, school push-outs, school dropouts and potential child workers and actual child workers.

Geographical Coverage.

Mirzapur – Bhadhoi region of Uttar Pradesh State in India.

Reasons for Operation in the Area:

§ Carpet weaving is the major traditional occupation in the area.

Because of non-availability of quality educational services children are employed at tender age for carpet weaving, agricultural activities and other labour activities, which hampers their personal and physical development.

§ All out of school children between 8 - 14 years of age are

potential / actual child workers. They are engaged in work preparatory to carpet weaving and exposed to exploitation at the cost of their personality development and physical health.

§ Providing quality education to these children gives them

opportunity to learn in schools and prepare them for mainstreaming into formal schools.

Activities of the Organization Quality Education

• In the three year Primary School course, we cover grades 1-5 of the national education standard. In the three year Middle School course, we cover grades 6-8 and in two years Secondary School course, we cover grade 9-10.

Vocational Training

o Rehabilitate them into the occupational culture of the region for responsible adulthood through providing Vocational training and guidance.

o The children are imparted quality vocational training in the schools

as a part of curriculum to train them for the occupational culture of the region. Both boys and girls are given training in tailoring, vegetable gardening, computer and crafts.

Nutritional Meals (Breakfast and Lunch) All the enrolled children are provided breakfast and freshly cooked mid-day meals in the schools, containing nutritional supplement of about 1500 calories, out of the total 2300-2400 calories required everyday. Healthcare

The enrolled children are provided comprehensive healthcare. All children are examined for medical check up, followed by complete immunization and de-worming. Children with serious problems are provided routine healthcare services. Instructions are provided for practicing personal health and hygiene. Other Services and Facilities: § Free School books, Stationery, teaching-learning materials and School

bags § Free two sets of uniform every year and one sweater at the time of

enrollment

Other Activities

Extra Curricular Activities (ECA): ECA includes a variety of leisure time

activities, singing, dancing, kitchen gardening, cleanliness and beautification of school campus, art and craft, games both indoor and outdoors, instruction and practice in personal health and hygiene and morals and mannerism.

Major Outputs from the Project

i. 7242 children from 45 villages have been enrolled for quality basic primary education during last 23 years by the organization.

ii. More than 5000 children who have completed the 3 years

accelerated Non-formal education from these 6 schools have been streamlined in government primary and other schools.

iii. Awareness of parents in particular and the society in

general for child education, women empowerment and articulation of aspirations.

Staff and other Infrastructure

Staff Pattern

• The organization has highly motivated, dedicated and trained staff to teach the children. Regular in-service training is compulsory. Community workers are having a close rapport with the society.

• The head office at Guria, Varanasi and 6 schools are supported by

Other Infrastructure

• The organization has 6 big buildings (each having 6-8 big rooms) with adequate and appropriate furniture, educational teaching aids, medical kit, and kitchen facility for providing breakfast and mid day meals to the enrolled children. Each school has big sports field and dining hall.

• The organization is fully equipped with vocational training

equipments like sewing machines and other demonstration equipments.
