LassitudeDefinition:Lassitude- weariness of body or mind from strain, oppressive climate, etc.: lack of energy; listlessness; languor

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 3} He was unwilling to abandon this lovely lassitude but he had to, of course.

My sentence: The girl, Jenna asked what the word lassitude meant, before she started spelling it for the judges during the spelling bee.

BenevolentlyDefinition:Benevolently- characterized by or expressing goodwill or kindly feelings.

Evidence from the novel:{Pg.7} Archie turned and simled at him benevolently….

My Sentence:Imagining other good deeds, Lizzie continued to act very benevolently toward her fellow peers.

LanguidlyDefinition:Languidly- the lack of energy: weak or slow

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 11} He was tall and not too heavy. He moved with a subtle rhythm, languidly , the walk of an athlete although he hated all sports and had nothing but contempt for athletes.

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 17} He studied the photograph surreptitiously and then closed the magazine and put it back where it belonged.

My Sentence: Sneaking around the corner, Alice in a very surreptitiously way tries to stay unnoticed as she leaves the house late into the night.

ContemptuousDefinition:Contemptuous- showing or feeling contempt (attitude of utter disgust or hatred)

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 24} On the surface, he was one of those, pale ingratiating kind of men who tiptoed through life on small, quick feet.

FeigningDefinition:Feigning-to pretend something or invent something. Or to copy somebody or something.

Evidence From the Novel:{Pg. 26} “My help?” Archie asked, feigning surprise , trying to keep any trace of mockery out of his voice. He knew why he was here.

My Sentence:Bubbles, the dogs enjoys trying to feign what his owners do.

AudacityDefinition:Audacity- boldness or daring; impudence.

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 27} Leon’s audacity, knowing his connection with the Vigils and bringing him in here this way.

My Sentence: Closing the door, all the animals started to make crazy noises and do silly things.

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg.36}“Thursday,” Archie said , a command in his voice, no nonsense, final, irrevocable.

My Sentence: Beating hearts and butterflies filling up there stomach, Edward and Bella from the movie Twilight love for is irrevocable.

InscrutableDefinition:Inscrutable- Mysterious; not easily understood

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg.37} “Ready,” Archie said, keeping his face expressionless, inscrutable as usual, even though he felt a bead of perspiration trace a cold path from his armpit to his ribs.

My Sentence: The television show, SpongeBob SquarePants is a funny and to some viewers a very inscrutable show.

BewildermentDefinition:Bewilderment- to confuse or puzzle someone completely

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 38} He looked at the Goober who stood there in bewilderment, looking as if he were going to cry.

My Sentence: Speeding past the sign, Marco was unaware of the bewilderment of the roads ahead.

NemesisDefinition:Nemesis- a bitter enemy, especially one who seems unbeatable

My Sentence:Jeff, the solider is his own enemy because he is always pushing himself.

Evidence From the Novel:{Pg.77} The Goober, tall and rangy, downfield where he’d be waiting if he had managed to elude the safetyman.

My Sentence: Comparing the two NBA players, you see that the player that plays for the Rockets is tall and rangy .

AdulationDefinition:Adulation- excessively admiring behavior; flattery or admiration

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg.80} Despite the adulation of the guys at school, he felt as if there was some kind of distance between him and the fellows.

My Sentence: Listening to the tumultuous music, Casey decides that she will turn it down.

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 89} …. Uncle Louie who was always simonizing his car although simonizing cars seemed part of the Dark Ages these days ….

My Sentence:Picking out her favorite flowers, Susan is buoyant to spend her time in nature.

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg.132} Suddenly, pandemonium reigned. The class exploded in frantic motion.

FarceDefinition:Farce- a ridiculous situation in which everything goes wrong or become a sham

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg. 147} Well, I understand that the sale is going lousy. Nobody wants to sale the chocolates in the first place and it’s turned into a kind of farce in some classes.

My Sentence: Sleeping peacefully, the bear woke up to find himself in a farce situation.

ScapegoatDefinition:Scapegoat- someone who is made to take blame for others

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg.151} He had the feeling that Brother Leon was the kind of character, he would need to scapegoat and Brian would be closest at hand.

My Sentence: Jimmy, her husband is the scapegoat for every problem in their relationship.

CalisthenicsDefinition:Calisthenics- vigorous physical for improving fitness and muscle tone, including push-ups, sit-ups, and jumping jacks

My Sentence: Sweating, there are many people in the world that love to go to a calisthenics class.

My Sentence:Producing a sibilant sound, the snake warns the zookeeper that he is present.

ApathyDefinition:Apathy- lack of enthusiasm or energy; lack of interest in anything; emotional emptiness.

Evidence from the Novel:{Pg.155} The boys have become, infected, Cochran. Infected by a disease we could call apathy. A terrible disease. Difficult to cure.

My Sentence:Tommy, the little is not a very happy kid, instead he is full of apathy.
