The Christ Courier Christ Lutheran Church, Mustang, OK June/July 2019 What does Easter mean to you? As our Easter season is coming to a close and Pentecost and summer lie ahead have you really considered what Resurrection of our Lord means to you. The question I ask is what does Easter mean to you? Is it about going to church, Easter breakfast -if so that is good. Is it about family and get-togethers that too is not bad. But what I am asking goes much deeper than just a one-day celebration. What and how do the occurrences of that day have on you and the way you live in this world? As I write this, I am reminded of the events leading up to that miraculous morning. We see the whole world, except for “those” religious leaders, coming out to proclaim Jesus as their king. Many have suggested that this is also the day that many chose that Passover lamb that would be slain on Passover. Jesus is busy during Holy Week, cleansing the temple, making final arrangements with His disciples and then the suffering and the horrendous pain of Good Friday. Mel Gibson in the Passion, tried to portray this suffering-in hope that we would see what our sin deserves. You and I were the ones that should have been stripped, humiliated, spit on, whipped, scourged, slapped, beaten and then forced to carry our cross and die for our own sins. And even then, that would not have been enough for we would still have spent eternity in hell to pay the price for our sins. Jesus suffered that for us; because He loved us more than we can even comprehend. On Easter morning because He was the perfect man- death could not hold Him. His resurrection is a guarantee for those who belong to Him. We too shall be raised after our physical death. Jesus words on the cross “It is finished” say that for all believers. But just because Jesus was finished in His mission of saving us does not mean that we are finished in our mission as children of God. Many believe that I am saved and that is the end of it. But God saved us to be better-to be more Godly. We have been freed from slavery to sin and the eternal death it brings. So, do we run back to be enslaved again? Most certainly not! An individual saved by Jesus is born anew; he is a new creation. So when we look at Christ’s resurrection the result of this historical event is changed lives. Just as Jesus was dead and then alive again, so we should put our sin filled nature to death every day, then we can be raised to a new life and follow Jesus. We like to use the words “faith, belief, and trust” to describe a changed life? But are they only words? James reminds us of that in his epistle when he says, “So also faith by itself -if it does not have works- is dead. "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” We are saved-that means we are changed. Don’t be deceived works do not create faith; works flow from faith and if you are not changed, or heading that direction, what does that say? Holy Scripture is clear! For that reason and even more we shout Jesus is Risen. We hear and listen to God’s Word of salvation and we let it fill our life up and make you and me more like the children God created us to be. We don’t just say Jesus is Risen! We live it! He is Risen indeed! Alleluia! Vacancy Pastor Dave Owens

What does Easter mean to you?

As our Easter season is coming to a close and Pentecost and summer lie ahead have you really considered what Resurrection of our Lord means to you. The question I ask is what does Easter mean to you? Is it about

going to church, Easter breakfast -if so that is good. Is it about family and get-togethers that too is not bad. But what I am asking goes much deeper than just a one-day celebration. What and how do the occurrences of

that day have on you and the way you live in this world? As I write this, I am reminded of the events leading up to that miraculous morning. We see the whole world, except for “those” religious leaders, coming out to proclaim Jesus as their king. Many have suggested

that this is also the day that many chose that Passover lamb that would be slain on Passover. Jesus is busy during Holy Week, cleansing the temple, making final arrangements with His disciples and then the suffering and the horrendous pain of Good Friday. Mel Gibson in the Passion, tried to portray this suffering-in hope

that we would see what our sin deserves. You and I were the ones that should have been stripped, humiliated, spit on, whipped, scourged, slapped, beaten and then forced to carry our cross and die for our

own sins. And even then, that would not have been enough for we would still have spent eternity in hell to pay the price for our sins. Jesus suffered that for us; because He loved us more than we can even

comprehend. On Easter morning because He was the perfect man- death could not hold Him.

His resurrection is a guarantee for those who belong to Him. We too shall be raised after our physical death. Jesus words on the cross “It is finished” say that for all

believers. But just because Jesus was finished in His mission of saving us does not mean that we are finished in our mission as children of God.

Many believe that I am saved and that is the end of it. But God saved us to be better-to be more Godly. We have been freed from slavery to sin and the eternal death

it brings. So, do we run back to be enslaved again? Most certainly not! An individual saved by Jesus is born anew; he is a new creation. So when we look at Christ’s resurrection the result of this historical event is

changed lives. Just as Jesus was dead and then alive again, so we should put our sin filled nature to death every day, then we can be raised to a new life and follow Jesus. We like to use the words “faith, belief, and trust” to describe a changed life? But are they only words? James reminds us of that in his epistle when he

says, “So also faith by itself -if it does not have works- is dead. "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my

works.” We are saved-that means we are changed. Don’t be deceived works do not create faith; works flow from faith and if you are not changed, or heading that direction, what does that say?

Holy Scripture is clear! For that reason and even more we shout Jesus is Risen. We hear and listen to God’s Word of salvation

and we let it fill our life up and make you and me more like the children God created us to be. We don’t just say Jesus is Risen! We live it! He is Risen indeed! Alleluia!

Debbie Phipps will be attending the LWML National

Convention in June. The LWML will be collecting gifts from the heart as they do at

every national convention. Our LWML group decided that we would just bring gift cards

from Walmart instead of taking all of the items on the list. There is a LWML white mailbox on the table in the fellowship hall. LWML is asking for $10.00 or $25.00 increments. Recipients for

the gifts will be Lutheran World Relief, Women's Resource Center, The Penelope

House, Home for Grace for Women, and NOLA 4H: Hearts for the Hungry, Homeless, &

Hurting. If you would like to donation a gift card, just place the cards in the mailbox. We

will be collecting them until Sunday, June 15th. Thank you,

Debbie Phipps President, LWML
