PROLOGUE
There is a breath of enchantment that flows through the lungs of this world.
Extraordinary and unexplainable abilities are shown every day by man. Some call it a
miracle of God while others call it sorcery of the devil. Then again there are those whoeven question the mere idea of religion and mark it off as just a natural balance of life.
Only some can wield and shape these abilities. The majority ability is known as
Purging, thought of as Gods given power to serve and honor his will. Purging is the
ability in which to heal injuries instantly and even being able to warp ones mind, healing
them of all sin- a branch of this power outlawed and deemed unjust. This ability is shown
through at a very early age. A discovered child is given the option to join and dedicate
themselves to the templar order, as a direct soldier of God, or be cast out into the wilds as
a heretic; for denouncing God and his holy gift.
Once casted out as a heretic, one is left to rot in the wilds for the rest of their
existence alone. A punishment worsened by any ties or relations the heretic had with
others would also face sever persecution. Other abilities than this one are found rarely
and usually deemed demonic when discovered; giving the person a title of heretic
immediately.
The kingdom of Serenia is one of God and is made sure to stand alone through
holy war, as the Lords one true kingdom. Separated by its two fighting forces, one being
the Templar order, where every solider carries the Purge ability and deals with only
matters of the church. This force is led by a head priest and Templar alike labeled the
Grand Master, who is considered the right hand of God. The other force is a normal
legion that holds all the faith in God as a templar does but none of the ability. This legioncarries out all other militaristic duties not deemed the responsibility of the church and the
templar order. This legion is run by a general and a second hand tactician.
This is a storyneither solely based off the black and white of sin nor the
justification of an action, but a mixed colored of gray. This is the world of Allegora

CHAPTER 1The mark of sin
A worlds worth of thought raced around in Lances head as he sat in his courtyard. Theyoung prince of Serenia couldnt help but to wonder what Gods true involvement was regarding
his fathers visions and what he should do about them regardless. Lance rested his head in hishands as he sighed in the annoyance of not being able to find answers nor being able to clear his
mind of the thoughts in general. Lance gave out another sigh, this one even deeper and more
drawn out than the last, as he looked up to the gray clouds above. The weather was gloomy and had a resemblance of what Lance felt about his inability to
do anything to stop his fathersprophecies from God and his belief of them. The warm light
humid wind was oddly unwelcoming to Lance, as it galled him, keeping him from clear thoughts.
Dark shaded clouds blocked both the sky and his mind from any clarity.Lance soon found himself fixed on the mighty dull stoned castle of Serenia. An
unpleasant comparison with surrounding weather thought Lance ironically. The Serenian wallsstacked high like any other castle but atop each row of towers were banners that markedthemselves with the Serenian cross, the very symbol of God himself, a symbol that lay only fit to
surround Gods very own kingdom; a kingdom that laid in magnificence upon a large cliff over
miles of woods beneath it, as to symbolize Gods everlasting vigilance on the heretics that callthose very woods home.
Such an astonishing spectacle to anyone but Lance, though he tried to marvel in it as if it
hadnt been his home for the last 23 years.Lances emerald eyes moved to the old and chipping
archway that lead back to the main hall of the castle, and eventually the throne room itself. It wasso uninviting to him, yet he knew he must go back.
What is a prince doing so far away from his castle with such weather coming upon us?
Lance turned around to see the relieving face of his best friend Zane, a much moreinviting thing than that elegant prison. Zane took a respectful bow to his superior and continuedto stand waiting for Lance to say something. Lance gave a pause while he shortly examined his
best friends Templar stature and presentation. Zane wasnt much younger then Lance and
always had a posture as if his headstrong and respectful personality was in a physical form.Lance had always admired this about Zane and wished he could be as formal, even with an old
friend as he was. Finally Lance spoke.
Zane how long have we known one another?Years upon years, your grace.
Then doesnt such greetings seem a bit of a formality to you?
Zane smiled as he thought about this. I suppose if you see it that way, but know you are
my prince first. I simply have the added honor of calling you my friend.Lance gave a warming smile at him as he came in to give him a brotherly hug.
Understandable but I hate to be reminded ofit sometimeswe are all children of God, making
me no lesser then you Zane. Now what brings you to see me during such weather?Grand Master Veritas tells me of how King Kalibs visions are getting moredrastic.
Yesmy thoughts were just on such things. I fear him right. I believe my father to be
sick.
You believe these visions not of God?

That is not my place to confirm, only Gods will and testament the Grand Mastercan
but no.
Zane pauses a moment to take in Lances believe before speaking again. Grand MasterVeritas will be talking to him soon regarding such matters.
Good! I only pray he settles this nonsense before something drastic takes placeI have
a bad feeling where my fathers mind might take him and even worse his actions.Zane gives a much bigger pause this time. He knew all too well how irrational KingKalib could be. King Kalibs visions and concepts have been followed by unnecessary havoc all
too often. Havoc that included the condemning of Zanes much younger brother, Zire, as a
heretic. As a templar, Zane had the duty to detach himself from his family in reason to give his
full attention to God and the order. Zane followed this responsibility with a devout but heavy
heart; he left his mother, father, and little brother Zire behind for some time. However, one day
during a heretic invasion from the wilds, Zanes parents were found dead with only one survivor,Zire. King Kalib ruled the murder as Zires fault. Claiming that heretics being the bloodthirsty
monsters they were would have just viciously killed Zire as well. Zire did try to claim they had
made an attempt to kill him, but just couldnt. However, King Kalib didnt believe such spawn ofsin would have any pity even for a child and kept his verdict.
Zane still shakes at the thought of how his, at the time 5 year old, brother could have
brutally murdered his parents, ones in which they both loved very much. How King Kalibs
verdict was of ignorance, disrespect, and lacked Gods will. Lance sees Zanes reflection on suchthings and notes how his words hit a heart string by reminding him of his loss brother. Lance
decides to break what had become an awkward silence with a friendly invitation.
Would you like to come to the castle? Eat, listen to the minstrels, and forget yourtemplar duties for one evening?
Zane gave a half-hearted smile at Lance. I shall walk with you if you wish, however I
cannot stay. Zane lied, I believe I will check on the temple. He lied again. Theprince did
everything he could to hide his hurt. A friend would have been just what he needed with so muchon his mind. Lance spoke with reserve, No, my friend, Ill walk alone. I made it hereby myself,
did I not? Go to the temple, Ill see you soon.
Zane nodded to his prince and friend, and without another word, left him. Lance watchedZane walk away, wishing for a moment that he was a Templar instead of a prince. How things
would be so much more fitting for him, serving side by side with his longtime friend as Gods
solider. The thoughts soon left him, as his sense of responsibility was too prominent in his mind.Besides who would rule Serenia once his father fell?
He turned and started his long stroll to his throne to make executive decisions for Serenia,
such as judging land disputes; things the king didnt have time for. What a dread it was to Lance.
He watched the sky above him, it was impossible to make it back before the rain. This didntbother him much though; Lance did enjoy the rain, for at least the moment it calmed him. As
drops started to fall, he pushed back his thoughts and smiled with much relief. With such things
away from mind, Lance found himself thinking of more comforting things such as the love of his
life, Marina. It was a sin of lust and although Lance was devoted to Gods will in most ways, this sin
just had to be. Lance recalls of how he first laid eyes on her, how he prayed to God to forgive his
impure thoughts. How he couldnt keep his eyes off her and when she returned the favor he wasforever love struck in passion and romance. It was not intended to break Gods law of

abstinence, but everything felt so right that night. They soon embraced their love and wished to
marry, however his father would never allow such things to happen and God commands to obey
your parents.Lance did not understand why his father would not allow such a beautiful thing as their
love to flourish but he dared not to push the matter. He had already committed one great sin and
wouldnt have anotherto fill his prayers of forgiveness. Lances meditation soon turns sour againat the thought of Marina now being pregnant and how something must be done about it.
Lance gave out a troubling sigh as he realized he couldnt escape any troublesome ideas.
Lance forced a meager grin on his face as he snapped out of his daydreams to see he had made it
to his destination. Lance couldnt help but to fall down on his knees almost immediately to pray.
Please God, forgive me for what I have done and what I cant stop doing. Please show
me the answer through your will. I need you now more than ever and I give my full heart to
Lance stops as he feels a presence over him. As he opens his eyes, sure enough he finds
the Grand Master watching over him with a serious but content look.
Please dont let me stop you. The Grand Master says with full meaning.
Sorry, I just didnt realize anyone was watching meI didnt mean to interrupt; its very welcoming to see such faith. Although Im sure
something is deeply troubling you for you to stop and pray so impulsively in the third hall
corridor like this.
Lance paused for a moment to undertake the Grand Master and all his wisdom. He stood
as his title, he was deemed the right hand of God and that he was. He wore the templar outfit
with full-body chain mail underneath a white tabard and in the middle of this tabard held the
Serenian cross. Although the Grand Masters chainmail was specially colored with black, this
matched very well with the templar black pants, alongside his own short black hair and goatee.
Veritas was of middle aged but didnt look much older than Lance astonishingly. There
was a few resemblance of an aged worn face with some blemishes scattered around, but nothing
that could have been seen without Lances careful study. He was a father-figure to many and to
Lance as well. At last Lance decided to take up a reply.
I will not lie; I couldnt fool you even if I did. Yes I do have a lot on my mind to pray
like this
Youre father? Yes me to
What do you plan on doing? Lance speaks with much concern and intrigue.
Talk to him of course, whenever I can find him free that is.
Yes but what else? Im sure he is probably with the Legion checking in and will be back
shortly.
That is a nice sentiment but I must return to the temple, there is much to be done before
tomorrows service. Perhaps I will catch him after it.
Lance cant believe what he is hearing, how the Grand Master takes such a weighted
thought of his so lightly. He can feel a touch of anger rise before the Grand Master gives him a
comforting look and grabs him lightly on the shoulder.

Dont worry my child, I find it just as troubling as you but you must take such things
with patience in order to see them ended correctly.
Lance gives out a disgraced breath, now angry at himself for thinking any less of the
Grand Master as he just did, even for the moment. Youre right, I understand Lance says in
a thankfully-shamed tone. Veritas gives Lance one last consulting smile before he turns to leave
him. Lance watches him as he steps out in the rain with a more uplifted heart, but worries of
Marina still laid deeply on his mind.
***
Zane walked in the rain, no faster than normal. He hated the rain, it reminded him of
secrets, but of course everything did. He thought about Lance, how he could tell something was
immensely troubling him. He wished he knew what, but of course, everyone in Serenia had their
secrets, and neither Zane nor Lance were any exception.
Zane found himself approaching some run down steps of his house. He stopped and
examined it. It was a decrepit old building, more of a barn then a house as it was larger in size
then most houses in Serenia. The house held no windows save a small skylight for privacy. Large
shrubbery grew wildly around the edges of the walls and helped conceal it even further.
A step back to look over the scenery was needed and accustomed to Zane. He was far on
the outer edges of Serenia, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. He liked it that way, less people,
questions, and worry. The trees grew thick around, blending with the shrubbery, as a small and
normally unnoticeable trail led to his front door. It bordered the wilds but was stealthily guarded.
Hidden was Zanes goal and he achieved it.
Once things seemed clear and secluded Zane unlocked his front door and took a step in.
Brother! Zire yelled with much excitement. Zane gave a smile as his brother came upand immediately hugged him. They both stood there in a warm hug as if Zane had been gone
much longer than a day. Zire finally let go to step back and brightly smiled up at him.
Brother, what all did you do today? Zire asked with an outstanding curiosity.
Just some mere strolls around the kingdom to share the word of God and make sure
there werent any serious troubles of the church to be had.
Thats so boring Zire looked down in disappointment.
Zire, not every day can be filled with battle. A templar has a higher duty to Serenia and
God himself then going off killing people every day
Zire takes a disappointed pause at this idea. Zane notices Zire has become uneasy and
knows he is having trouble getting some other thought out. Zire, what is it? Zire looks at Zanewith stun, as if he couldnt imagine how Zane knew he wanted to ask something else. But Zane
simply did, they were brothers after all, besides he was very good at reading people to begin
with.
Well little bother? Zane asked again.
Zire still staggers with words before they come bursting out Can I have my own
weapon?!

Zane is baffled by such a question. He knew Zire was fascinated by ideals of battle but to
actually ask for a weapon at such a young age was more than drastic. Zane tries to understand the
full meaning of the request and asks calmly.
Why would you want something like that?
I want to be like youI want to be a templar. I have even beenpractice healing. Zire
rolls up his right sleeve to show several deep and still bleeding gashes on his arm that are
obviously self-inflicted. Zanes eyes widen and his heart stops for the brief second it takes to
confirm what he is seeing. Zane quickly kneels down to Zires level and places his left hand over
the wounds. With a light but somewhat firm touch he begins to heal Zires arm back to normal in
a matter of seconds; as Zire stares in awe at the event.
What were you thinking? Zane speaks in aharden tone. You could have gotten hurt to
the point where I couldnt have healed this. Do not do such a dangerous thing again!
But I thought I could heal it.
Zane tries to calm his tone. Not everyone can heal little brotherand only a few of us
can heal deep wounds.I knowbut I have before.
When? Zane asked surprisingly.
Zires face is swept with sorrow as he speaks. When mom and dad diedthey tried to
kill me to but I healed. Tears pour from Zires eyes as he recollected.
Healed? How?
They stabbed me through my chest just like mom and dad but when they left I healed
Zane looks into his brothers now abundantly teary eyes. He wipes Zires tears away as
he tries to cheer him, but to also make him understand.
Zire, you mustbe mistaken. Not even I can heal such a deadening wound and I have
been trained for a very long time.Yes I didI want to be a templar just like you. Zire bellows as he lets out more tears.
Zane looks into Zires eyes sincerely and takes a deepbreath You cant, even ifyou
could heal.
Why? asked Zire with his eyes refilling with more tears and a nose running thick.
Zane cant bear to explain the details of why Zire was hidden, how everyone thinks Zane
followed through with Zires condiment into the wilds and why no one can know he had broken
it. Zane feared for both their lives and the judgments that would lie upon them. Although he
wanted to give Zire a full life, he still hadnt figured out how he was going to do it yet.
Zane decides to humor Zire to change the mood and hopefully cheer him up. If you were
to have a weapon, what would you want it to be like?
Zires face lights up instantly, as a big smile forces itself upon it. Iwant a bladed staff! Zire
yells out as if he had been thinking about such a thing for a very long time. I want it to be really
long and glow with fire on each end. Zane cant helpbut to smile at Zires imagination and
concept for such an uncommon weapon design.

Please get itfor me brother. If more heretics ever come I can fight them off Zire
pleads trying to convince Zane further.
You would have no need; Ill always be here to protect you. Zane replied brotherly.
You werent beforewhat if youre not again. Zire looks down saddened.
Zires words cut deep into Zanes soul unnoticed by Zire, because of his child-like ignorance.
Will you get me one? Zire pleads again. Zane swallows the hurt given by the bitter words
previously spoke and for the first time really considers giving his brother a weapon, even at his
young age. Zires big brown eyes stare at Zane anxiously waiting for his response. Zane notices
and gives out a drawn out breath.
I will honestly strongly consider it Zane spoke have-mindedly at first.
Zire acts as if though he has already said yes. Thank you so much brother! Zire starts to
give his brother a hug before he is stopped.
There are two conditions for such contemplationOne, you never, and I mean NEVER,
hurt yourself like you did again to practice healing.
OK brotherI wont. No, I want you to promise me Zire Zane looks very seriously at Zire. Zire pause to
take in the solemnness behind Zanes words and the promise he would be making.
I promise brother, I promise I wont. Zire says in a adult and understanding tone.
Good. Secondly, go read some verses before bed and I mean really read them. If you
want to be a templar and a true man of God you must know them in and out.
Yes brother, I will.
Zire gives Zane a big and joyous hug before running to the table to read the word of God
like told of him. Zane looks at his brother and how obedient he was being to please him. Zane
gave out a small laugh; it was honestly working, as he was considering giving his 9 year old
brother a deadly weapon. Here Zane was to never think Zire would be able to persuade him onsuch a matter even in the least bit, but he had.

CHAPTER 2How a mind carries...
The day grew still as night fell over Serenia. Lance couldnt help to notice moonlight as it
shined through his window, reminding him of such beauty he was about to hold once again. Like
every night, he and Marina would share in their romance once the guards rotation gave moment
for Marina to slip by unnoticed. He waited for her sweet and fragile knock on the door, as he had
grown accustom to. Before his mind could sink further in the idea, he heard it.
He could feel his heart start to race as he quietly ran to the door to open it. Lance cracked
it ever so slightly and without a moments notice she slipped in shutting the door behind her.
Lance barely had time to glance at her before she embraced him with an incredible kiss. A kiss
that felt as if their hearts started to beat as one, a feeling he refused to let go of as he continued in
it for some time. He felt her lips form a smile against his and finally broke the heavenly bond to
stare at her affectionately. What is it my love? Marina spoke so tenderly.
You darling, you give me every reason to breath.
She grinned shyly and kissed him again. This time it was her who couldnt let go and he
embraced every second of it. Lance slid his hands down her side until they came upon on her
protruding stomach, suddenly he pulled them away. Marina now put off, stared at Lance very
meaningfully.
Whats wrong?
Marina can you sit down please?
Marina did so, watching her soul mate as he started to pace the floor. It wasnt like Lance
to not be able to share things with her. He had his secrets, but she was the exception, at least, shed always thought. She was worried, not so much for herself, but for him and their child.
My father has lost his mind! Lance finally shouted. This confused Marina even more.
They had spoken of this several times.
I know this darling, has he done something else?
Not exactly.
Then what is it? Your heart is too heavy with all this, please let me lift it.
Im afraid that cant happen.
Marinas face dropped as she lifted up. She went to hold him, yet Lance turned away at
her efforts. He walked away to the window and stared ounce more at the moon that reminded
him so much of her.
Lance Marina murmured in a hurt tone.
An awkward silence filled the room as Lance gave thought at the moon. He kept staring
into it, never daring to glance back at her.
You know I love you. Lance let out in a heart-felt tone.

Of course I do, I love you toso much. A tear found its way out of Marinas eye as her
worry and confusion started to overwhelm her. She walks over to him and carefully put her arms
around him. She could barely see his face but she notice his tears glimmer in the moonlight. It
broke her heart and she tried to turn him around, but Lance snatched himself away.
Lance, talk to me! What is wrong with you?
Lance started to sob, and she watched in the most confusion she had ever felt. Suddenly
he turned, grabbing her, and pulled her into the most passionate kiss hed ever given her. She
wrapped her arms around his neck as he picked her up and laid her on the windows ledge. Their
tongues danced together and the tears from both their eyes mixed as they fell. He pulled away
from her slowly.
You know that anything I would do is for the good of you and your soul, right? Do you
understand?
Marina nodded and went to kiss him again, but Lance turned his head. Say it Marina.
Tell me you understand, and that Lances words were stopped by a sob attempting to escape.
He took a breath and finished: and that you forgive me.As confused as she was, she just wanted him to be happy. I know that darling and I
forgive youFor anything. I love you.
I love you too. Lance slammed his teary eyes shut and in one swift motion, pushed
Marina out the window. She screamed panic, as Lance fell to his knees tightly closing his yes
and holding his ears as he felt her screams in his head, his heart, and his very soul. He screamed
out, unable to take in what he had actually just done.
I take it back! The words screamed through his mind, Oh dear God I take it back! He
kept his eyes held shut and yelled until he heard a sickening thud and then silence. Lance got up
and walked to the window. He slowly opened his eyes.
Lance screamed as he flew up in bed. He was covered in sweat and his breath lay heavy.
He could feel tears on his face and wiped them away as he tried to regain composure. He looked
over at the window and rushed towards it. As he approached, his stomach flipped at the thought
of the dream and its vividness.
Lance gave a breath of relief as his saw an empty stone pathway, as it should be. He
brushed his fingers through his hair slowly; feeling it even drenched in sweat. Those thoughts
wereawful, sinful, unthinkableyet hed thought them, hadnt he? He was disgusted by
himself and couldnt get the imagines and screams out of his head, as he replayed them over and
over.
He stepped away and started pacing around in front of his bed, daring not to go back near
the window and did his best to avoid even the sight of it. The aspect of sleep now was impossible
now, and Lance knew it. His breathing had calmed for the most part but his heart beat was still
hard against his chest. Lance knew if there ever was a moment he needed a friend, it was now.
He grabbed his royal red cloak and threw it over his pants and naked chest.

Lance rushed out of the castle into the woods, under the cover of night. He almost felt a
bit of relief at the thought of who he sought was someone who would understand. There was
only one person who Lance shared in with such matters, and although Zane wasnt a priest or
Grand Master alike, he was the one Lance most trusted and respected.
***
Zane lied awake in bed staring up through the skylight at the stars. He wondered about
his brother his how he was doing with his upbringing. Zane wanted to have all the wisdom and
good parentals as his mother and father had, but knew he didnt. How he missed them and
couldnt even imagine poor Zires feeling towards the matter. Zire always provoked his thoughts;
he loved his brother unconditionally and could tell through Zires idolization of him, he felt the
same.
Zanesonly concern was his brothers protection and raising. Zane was devout to God
and wanted to instill this same righteous value into young Zire. The foremost gift he could give
to Zire was to guard his soul with God. Zane began to pray. Please God; give me the knowledge and ability to raise Zire respectable and according to
your will. Bless him, bless both of us, may we find your
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Zane shot up at the loud knocks, as did Zire from his sleep.
Brother whats Zires mouth was quickly covered by Zanes hand.
Listen to me Zane whispered. Go into the floor like we practiced
Zire hurried to the middle of the room and scooted the table that was there out of the way.
Underneath it was a trapdoor, very carefully hid. Zane rushed over to help Zire lift the door.
BOOM! BOOM! Zane, its Lance
Zane helped Zire the rest of the way down under the floor. He gave Zire a smile as he lookedhim in the eye.
You did very well, I promise not to keep him here for long so you dont have be down
there more then you have to be. I love you Zire
I love you to brother. Zane looked up and smiled with sleepy eyes.
Zane gently closed the door and scooted the table back over it to help conceal its
presence. Zane put on a face of exhaustion and went to open the door. As he opened it he saw
Lance getting ready to knock again. He was drenched in sweat, and Zane was incredibly concern.
Zane couldnt help but noticeLances face, seeing it flushed and dry paths of recent tears
remained. Zane was taken back at the whole sight of his dear friend.
May I come inLance asked in a hesitant manner.
Of course Zane said still in question of what Lance was doing there so late.
Lance stepped past Zane and quickly went straight for the table, making Zanes heart
jump in fear for a moment. But once Lance reached the table he sat and put his hands over his
face and began to cry once more. Zane rushed towards his friend and pulled a chair beside him.

As he sat down and put a loving hand on Lances shoulder and gave an immense look of
concern.
Lance? Whats wrong?
I had a dream! A horriblehorrible dream, Zane. Lance spoke through his tears.
What kind of dream?
An awful dreamone that grips my very soul. Lances tears continued to fall.
Share your burden, my friend. Zane said comforting him. Although he almost didnt
want to know. With the way King Kalibs dreams are and have been, surely the Princes could
not be in much better prospects. Although, Lance was far from his father in many ways and Zane
knew this whole-heartedly.
Zire watched from under the floorboards, wide-eyed, hoping Lance would reveal more.
Lance took a moment to regain himself and began to explain his dreams. As Zane listened, he
tried to find meaning in all of it; all the while Zire listened in mere morbid fascination. Lance
had to take a few deep breaths before he could finish the horrific story. Then as if it were all one
word, he spit out I threw her out the window!Zanes eyes widen and Zires jaw dropped. Lance began with his tears once more. Zane
began to rub his hand on Lances back. Lance, it was a dreamnothing more.
a dream Lance repeated in a some-what sadden daze. Nothing more than a dream.
Have you talked to Marina? Perhaps youshould go to her.
You know I cant do that. We have to be carefulbesides how would I explain such a
thing, its better she not know
Zane looked down to the trap door, he knew all too well of secrets. It sickened him that
such things should be hidden: love, happiness, and family. God will be done, but at what cost are
such sins? Zane thought in a wondering anger. Surely God would not see such things anything
less than justifiable, making the morality of it all righteous.Send for her, I will fetch hermyself if you wish Zane spoke as he broke from
thought; trying not to let his mind wonder in such a time.
Youre a good man, my friend, but its too much. I cant come to her with such matters;
I hate to worry her even more. She is the one who has to make excuses for her pregnant belly,
not me. That is enough for her to worry about for now.
She carries your child, the future ruler of Serenia. Dont you think she has the right to
know?
And what does it mean? Lance suddenly becomes angered, as his voice rises. I AM
the prince of Serenia, and what do I have? Secrets, regrets, haunting dreams. I cant even have a
child.
And why cant you? Zane speaks sternly, matching Lances tone of voice.
The very reason your brother has been left to rot in the wilds, banished from all care and
safety of you!
Zane clinches his fist in anger as they start to tremble. Lances words were untrue, but the
mere the idea of it, said in such a way, gave Zane all the reason he needed to be upset. Lance and

Zane start a stare down as Zire watched from below. Zire had never seen his brother in such a
way. Zire could tell how much his brother loved him from his reaction to Lances words.
Zire felt his heart come to a complete stop as he watched Zane and Lance still glaring at
each other and wondered if things would turn violent. Abruptly, Lances face softens and a small
smile played across his lips. Zane couldnt help but return it. All at once, the two found
themselves in laughter. The sheer emotion and words said couldnt break from the friendly bond
the two shared.
Something Zire just didnt understand as he continued viewing in utter confusion. He
found nothing funny, in fact moments ago he had planned for the worst; whatever that may have
been. Zire felt his heart beat return; his mind swam with question of what just happened.
My friend Lance spoke through his laughter Im deeply sorry for my words.
Its fine, at least I didnt cry like a woman, such as you did. The twos laughter erupts
again.
I admit you do have me on that one Lances laughter begins to fade as he remains to
smile. Thank you ZaneFor what?
Being such a good friend, helping me deal with such negativity. When I become King, I
promise to lead a quest in search of him. You have my word.
Zane looks at Lance and sees how serious he is, he felt like if there was ever a time to tell
Lance of Zire being hidden, it was now. Zane wrestled with the decision, but he couldnt bring
himself to fully agree on revealing a secret that he had held for so long, even to Lance. Therefore
he didnt, instead he took a silent bow to honor such consideration from him.
A silence between the two arose, as Zire himself also realized the perfect moment to tell
Lance about his predicament had come and passed. He wondered if Zane secretly thought Lance
wasnt to be trusted and if he should not trust him as well.Lance gave out a big sigh as he looked down. Things would be so much more better off
with my lead
Zire couldnt help but to murmur out a solution. It was so simple to him he couldnt
believe the two hadnt thought of it before. Why dont you just kill him Zire voice came faintly
from under the floor.
Zanes mind went into shock, as he could not believe that Zire had said something to
threaten his discovery; not to mention what he had said. Lance looked up and his face read of
stun similar to Zanes.
What did you say? Lance asked with strong question. Zane held relieve as Lance
thought he was the one who said such a devilish thing. Zane wouldnt dare tempt such a thought
in Lances mind but he knew he must repeat the words to cover Zire.
Whydont you just kill him Zane repeated very reluctantly. Zane looked down not
being able to make eye contact with Lance after saying such a thing he didnt believe in. He felt
compelled to say something to try to take the words back.
Although it seems just, that wouldnt be Gods will. Im sure he intends

Zanes words are stopped by the closing of a door. Lance was gone. Zane looked up and
ran to the door to open it. He caught a glimpse of Lance before he disappeared into the dark
woods. He closed the door and quickly went to move the table and open the trap door to retrieve
Zire.
As he pulled him out, Zane kneeled down, grabbing Zires shoulder aggressively. Zane
glared into Zires eyes with much anger and disappointment.
What were you thinking, saying that the way you didat all even? Zane said in a
parental tone. Have I not taught you more control then that? Gods will better than that?
YesbrotherIm sorry; it just sort of popped out
If your thoughts turn to violence and murder so quickly, I dont believe you are at all
ready for your own weapon.
But brother. Zire spoke with much disheart.
But nothingmy word is final. Until you prove to me otherwise
A silence filled the air as Zire stared at the floor now saddened. A tear fell from his eye as
he looked up to see Zanes face. Zire could see Zanes anger of him but he also saw all the lovethat hid behind it. He wondered many things about his brother, and tried his best to understand
him to his fullest ability.
Zanewhy didnt you tell Lance about me?
Zane takes a long breath to think before he responds. Zire, I love you. I will protect you.
A duty I hold trust to no one but myself.
So you think Lance would harm me? Zire asked puzzled.
Not exactly, but there is always the possibility he could in some far depths of
circumstance. That would be near impossible, but still something I will not gamble on. Zane
looks at his brother and wipes the tear from his eye. Now stop crying my dear brother, you will
always be loved and protected with me.Zire leaps forward and gives Zane a tremendous hug. He understood. Youre always
loved and protected with me to brother. Zire cries some more, but this time his tears are of
compassion. I love you so much. Thanks for taking such good care of me. I promise not to
bother you about having my own weapon anymore.
Zane pulls back and gives Zire a smile. Now go back to bed little brother. Who knows
what tomorrow awaits. Zire nods politely and wipes away the rest of his tears before he rushes
back to bed. Zane cant help but marvel at his brother mature development, as he felt his prayers
he had just prayed a while ago had already been answered.
Dear God, Thank you. Amen.

CHAPTER 3A God to understand
Blood slung in every direction as Albalinds sword ripped through the flesh of a heretic
attacker. Bodies were falling dead everywhere as Gods work and the Kings wishes were being
done. A mission of salvation to justly wipe the plague, and otherwise threat of evil, from Serenia
and its borders.
A mission led by only two experienced Templars: Albalind and Osmond, some of the
most skilled and highly recognized of the order. The attack on the heretic village continued.
Albalind couldnt help but to ponder on the whole idea of it, even as he did battle. What had
been named The Purge, andrightly so after the banned ability of cleansing ones mind of all evil.
Some called it mind control, a lie of faith for God forced upon a heretic. Something Albalind
disagreed with. For what they were doing there, killing the damned souls under Gods name was
practically the same thing; No, worse.Yes, a fitting name for what they were doing. They were in fact cleansing them. However
Albalind was no monster, if it wasnt for God, he would be sickened with the idea of such
devastation he was helping with. Who was he kidding, it still wrenched his core. Albalind
struggled to move past it as he tried to keep alert while in combat.
Albalind had killed many already, a count far less than Osmond, but they still seemed to
be putting up quite a fight. Albalinds weapon of choice was a halberd, with a trusty dagger
tucked away, which had always served him well. Albalind was still lost in thought when a heretic
moved past his defenses and cut him deep in his right arm, nearly cutting it off.
His arm gushed blood as he raised full focus on fighting now and not the reasons behind
it. Albalinds vision quickly turned to a tent of red as warm blood from his half-decapitated armspewed in his face. Albalind could barely see his attacker through it all. As his body put
movement into dodging, not even adrenaline could keep Albalind from feeling the over bearing
singes of pain rushing in.
The arms control now lost to him, twisted limply back and forth. Albalind struggled to
use his halberd with just one hand, a task hopeless. Strike after strike became more challenging
to keep blocking, until Albalind just couldnt keep his strength to even hold it. His blood was
leaving fast but with one last forceful block, he miraclely pushed his attacker back. Thus
distancing them and giving him time to fall to his knees, drop his weapon, and take a breath
without being dealt a killing blow.
Of course this was just to spare him a few seconds, as his attacker advanced back seeing
his victory mere inches away. The heretics arrogance presented itself as he was in no rush to kill
him, but instead took his time to pace up to Albalind and give a speech.
You Templars are all just alike, so controlled. Putting faith in some imaginary friend
you may have abilities most dont possess, but you all are just as damned. The attacker

reek of death
Funny, I thought I reeked of blood and sweat. Osmond appears and doesnt even give
time for a reaction as he swings his long sword diagonally, cutting deep from the attackers ribs
to the middle of his chest. The sword was quickly withdrawn leaving the body to fall. Osmond
looked down at Albalind who didnt make a move.
Have you forgotten you can heal yourself? Osmond spoke in a calm questionable tone.
No Albalind replied in slight embarrassment. He places his hand over his nearly
severed arm and something of a glow appears as the healing process begins. The muscle and
flesh start to mend back together ever so slowly as if the cut was being reversed.
You knowyou forgot to say tears... Albalind awkwardly spoke as he waited for the
healing process to finish.
Tears? I will not cry for the death of such sin.
No, like blood, sweat, and tears... Albalinds cheeks flush red with profuse
embarrassment at his own bad joke.Ohha, you have never been the one for jokes Albalind. Osmond gives a comforting
smile down towards his fellow templar and good friend.
I suppose, but one day Ill have a good one I assure you. Albalinds arm has now
become fully rejuvenated. He moves it around, gripping in and out with his hand and twisting his
wrist, making sure everything is moving as it should. When Albalind comes upon the conclusion
that it is, he stands up to thank Osmond.
I must say if it werent for you
Save it, God protects us all.
Albalind gives a moment to pause and think about such wisdom. Indeed you are right.
The two share in a look of confirmation before they take a look at the dead around them.TheseGods protection isnt gifted to Albalind spoke in stagger.
They all had the choice and ability to be divined in His lighted shield, yet they refused.

You will pay for what you have done! A screeching voice is heard from a distance.
Albalind and Osmond prepare themselves for an attack.
As they raise their defense, they uncover the source of the threat. A young girl who
carries a sword, that is far too big for her, is seen a few yards away. Tears run down a face filled
with anger and despair. Albalind lowers his guard at the afflicted view. As Osmond remains
guarded and stands as he would with any other threat.
What are you doing Osmond? Its just a little girl. Albalind proclaims in disturbance at
Osmonds still alert stance.
She has made threat on our life has she not?
Yes but surely you are not threatened by her.
No but her faith will be with the rest Osmond replies bluntly. Albalind stares at him
in disbelief at such heartless words.

You killedmydaddy! The little girl rushes Albalind, barely managing to have
enough strength to swing her sword. She lands a small blow to Albalinds leg, just enough for it
to bleed profusely. Even the little girl seems amazed by her lucky strike. Albalind remains in
shock at what to do, as she makes a swing for his head.
Suddenly in one fluid motion, Osmond blocks the girls attempt and returns his sword
directly through her stomach. Albalinds eyes widen at the dramatic scene. As blood pours out of
her stomach, her face becomes pale. Her lips begins to quiver and tears rush down her face even
more then before, she manages to blurt out the word Daddy before falling down lifeless.
Osmond removes his sword at the moment her body falls to the ground. Albalind remains
bewildered, forgetting he is even injured. How could youwe could have saved her
Albalind speaks in utter sympathy.
How? Osmond says irritated at the idea.
We could havepurged her.
Osmond swings his head around to glare at Albalind. We cant and wont. It is outlawed
for a reason. These people choice their fate. Some were just raised that way from theirparents. Its not her fault shedidnt know of
God. We could have given it to her.
Its brainwash Albalindall of it. A child is raised in their parents faith, forced to
believe their ideals. We would be doing the same thing. We were given free will to choose the
righteous or not to.
Then you agreeshe was too young to be considered a heretic?
Perhapsbut its Gods place to judge such things, not mine. I simple lead her to it as
Im supposed to do.
Damn you Osmond! Do you have no shame?
We are servants of God, I can notAlbalind stop briefly to take in such words. He doesnt know if he fully agrees with them,
but he understands. Have you forgotten youre still injured? Osmond speaks interrupting his
thoughts. Albalind looks down to see is leg still cut open and still slightly bleeding. He sets his
hand much like before on his wound and heals himself. Since it isnt as lacerated, it doesnt take
nearly as long to aid.
Osmond stares at the process. You are always the one so prone to injury. Osmond
speaks contently. Albalind looks up a bit offended.
I most certainly am not! Albalind speaks as he finishes healing. Id have you know
Albalinds words are cut short by an abrupt swish of air, one familiar to that of a sword
swing. Osmond reacts quickly and dodges the blow that is sensed to be coming from behind him.
As he dodges, the sword continues to move with much force and strikes Albalinds leg, cutting it
in almost the exact place as before.
Devil be damned! Albalind screams out in pain at the irony. Albalind brings up his
halberd to defend an expected second blow, but is surprised to see the attacker turn and rush at

Osmond with much ferocity. Albalind goes to heal his leg and study the event. He is bewildered
to see the attacker as the one once before, the little girls father.
He couldnt even fully focus on healing his leg, as he was so dumbstruck at the man still
being alive. His wounds were still very prevalent, yet he still stood and fought. Osmond face
even read of shock as the two did battle. The man fought with much skill but his wounds and
Osmonds superiority got the better of him. Disarmament and a broad slice through the stomach
ended the fight. Osmond started to walk towards Albalind even before the mansbody could fall
to the ground. Albalind tried to heal his wound fully before Osmond reached him.
Deny me now? Osmond spoke with a bit of laughter.
I suppose not Albalind spoke in a bit of shame.
Osmond reached his hand out to help Albalind back to his feet. He generously accepted
his friends help. As he came to his feet he didnt let a moment pass before he asked.
How could he still have the strength to get up? Let alone fight? Albalind asked in
astonishment.
I suppose the same strength that keeps him moving now Osmond spoke calmly.Albalind looked over behind Osmonds shoulder to see the man crawling and reaching
out towards the body of his daughter. The man couldnt summon any more strength before he
died mere inches away from her corpse. A sight that brought a tear to Albalinds eye and great
doubt on what he had done.
I must go to praydont follow. Albalind said dejected, trying to fight back tears.
I understand, I will examine the area to make sure there are no more surprises while you
do. Osmond spoke in a thoughtful manner.
Thank you, youre a true friend. Albalind spoke with much meaning and care in his
words. The two shared a stern and brotherly look as Albalind turned and walked away to pray.
Albalind walked a good distance before finding a spot by the edge of a large creek. Hefought back tears until he found a spot to pray. As he walked into a scene, he knew he found it.
As he positioned to pray, he let go holding back his tears and let them fall.
Albalind chose the spot because of its calm tone, something he needed currently. The
creeks soothing running water made for a placid atmosphere to match the heavy shading from
the thick green trees that surrounded it. He had found the secluded place he was looking for to
pray his troubles aloud, like he favored to do.
Please God give me the strength and knowledge to carry out what is right. Help me
deliver your word and remove that what challenges it from this world. Im having such a hard
timeaccepting all of this. I do not doubt you; I doubt if it is truly your bidding. Please give me
a signsomething to prove to me that it is. That what Im doing is right and by your will.
Albalind pauses, a long silence sets in as Albalind thinks of all the sins he has committed.
A few more tears roll down his face and he doesnt bother to fight these either. He looks down
and watches the tears slide off his face onto the ground, urging him to pray once more.

Albalinds prayeris interrupted as Osmond clunking armor is heard beside him. He plops
down beside Albalind and stares offinto the distance, like he doesnt even notice Albalind is
there. Albalind looks at him for a moment offended, but decides to brush this off. It was like
Osmond to do such a thing and he was mostly used to it by now. Besides, he wanted an escape
from the troubles that prayer could only remind him of.
I take it there will be no more surprises? Albalind asked questionably.
No, theyre all dead. Osmond spoke absolute.
Albalind was always put back by Osmonds apathy and stern demeanor, yet this news
struck him with numbness. Perhaps because he already expected this, it was their mission after
all. As this thought filled Albalinds mind, he tried not to think of the Father and Daughter they
had just killed. He knew his nightmares would cover it all too well. As he tried to repress the
idea, Osmond pulled out a book of some sort. The book was bounded in old leather with its topright corner soak in blood.
I found a book onthe father Osmond spoke, not giving Albalind a chance to even
ask the question.
I seewhy keep it? Albalind spoke mortified of how killing the mans daughter wasnt
enough but now to loot his corpse as well.
I flipped through it, it foretells of apower to remove Gods given abilitiesinteresting,
but demonic.
That is outrageous, why keep such a thing? You could be charged with hereticy if you
are found with it.
I figure Osmond flips through the pages before putting it in a satchel of his. Thatwe can use it against them somehow. Fight darkness with light guided darkness.
Suddenly a horses gallop is heard; Albalind and Osmond both draw their weapons
quickly, preparing themselves for any threat. Albalind is determined not to be hit by another
blades edge and thus keeps a keen eye on the approaching figure, ready to strike. As the figure
appears through some trees Albalind rushes it but is pulled back by Osmond. Albalind becomes
off balance and nearly falls by the grab back.
Thanks to Osmonds attentive reflexes, Albalind wasprevented from accidently attacking
the Grand Master. As Albalind gained his composure he looked up to see the anger in the Grand
Masters face, something he was far from usually seeing.
What is the meaning of this?! The stern voice bellowed out from the Grand Master.
What, the purge? Osmond asked with little respect.
We are just following your orders Grand Master. Albalind replied more sensitively.
I ordered no such thing, these people where not intended to die by God on this day.
Albalinds heart dropped at the thought on the unjustly deaths he had caused on this day.

What made you believe any order was given? The Grand Master followed up his
response. Albalind remained frozen in grief as words stuck in his throat. Osmond saw his
friends trouble and replied for him.
We were told by King Kalib. We thought he was relaying the message from you.
Osmond spoke now knowing this assumption was wrong. The Grand Masters eye widen at the
words, as a singe of anger showing to shoot through his face.
I fear he has over-stepped his self, I will be talking to him immediately tonight once
back to Serenia. I urge you two back as well, you start guard duty in the morningIm sorry for
this misguided burden, I assure you I will take care of this from happening again. The Grand
Master turned his horse and galloped away back to Serenia to talk to the King.
Albalind could only imagine the Grand Masters vexation and the words he would share
with the King shortly. Albalind didnt know how to feel himself, only much despair. That maybe
he was better off dead in the wilds then being a Templar senselessly killing children of God.
Osmond notices the hopelessness in Albalinds face. He more than pitied him, he worried about
his friend.I know it gets to you Albalindbut its best to not think about it. They would have been
purged sooner or laterit was just wrongfully hastened. Come on, we must go. Osmond starts
to walk to where they left their horses, as Albalind follows.
They were returning to their houses, a privilege only high ranking Templars had. The
rest, mostly new recruits, had to remain in bunkers at the temple. This was to make sure they
stayed dedicated to God and were not given the chance to sin. That was mostly the reason for the
guard rotation, that and to protect the temple from any outside attack. Of course not even the
devil himself dared to attack such a holy place.
Albalind dreaded the guard duty; he always fell bored from it. Always having to do it
more then what he should because Zane always managed to get out of it somehow. Albalindscoffed, his theory was Zane used Prince Lance to do it somehow. He always felt some distrust
with Zane, most likely from his shifty behavior at times. He knew Zane was hiding something,
but he had no idea what it could be.
Are you wishing to stay? Osmond spoke in a joking demeanor at the tranced Albalind.
He was so lost in thought, he almost passed his horse. As he snapped out of his daydreaming he
climbed his horse to join Osmond Good, I was hoping I didnt have to ride alone. Now lets
ride, Amilia awaits.
Ah yes Amilia, Osmonds wife. Albalind recalled. She was the head tactician of the legion
and had met Osmond at one of the yearly Royal festivals. Their love waited no time to flourish,
as they married soon after. Templars werent supposed to marry, but the Grand Master turned his
head and gave his blessing; assumingly because Osmond had the curtsy and bravery to ask him
directly, instead of doing it secretly.
The Grand Master was not only wise but understanding in all aspects, knowing exactly
when to bend rules. He was truly the right hand of God, Albalind thought in admiration. As
