MARK 5:21-43 (NIV) “When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with him, ‘My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.’ So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, ‘If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.’ Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’ ‘You see the people crowding against you,’ his disciples answered, ‘and yet you can ask, “Who touched me?”’ But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.’ While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ they said. ‘Why bother the teacher anymore?’ Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’ He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, ‘Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.’ But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, ‘Talitha koum!’ (which means ‘Little girl, I say to you, get up!’). Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.”

    July 1, 2018 9:15 a.m.

The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People.

CHIMES PRELUDE “God Bless America” Irving Berlin BRINGING IN THE LIGHT WELCOME, REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP:

L: Welcome friends to this celebration of our freedom in Christ as we embark on Independence Day week. P: As we celebrate our freedom to both worship and live as we please, may we remember that our freedom as Americans is based on the freedom God gives all people in Christ. L: Indeed God has given us our freedom in Christ; at the same time, that freedom should be invested in the work of Christ in our lives—being people of love, forgiveness, grace, mercy and thanksgiving. P: May God help us to move further beyond the freedom to have by exercising it in our freedom to give.

    PRAYER CHAIN

Did you know that The Church at Litchfield Park has a prayer chain? When there are prayer requests, the office emails the requests out or calls through a phone tree. If you would like to participate in this ministry, please contact the church office at (623) 935-3411 or [email protected] with the method you wish to receive.

    CHURCH IN SOUERS HALL

Did you know that there are other places to enjoy the Sunday service in addition to the Sanctuary? If you would enjoy watching the church service on a big screen while sipping on a cup of coffee, please be aware that the church services are broadcast live in Souers Hall each Sunday. If you are a nursing mother or parent of a crying child, the Fireside Room South is available with the service on T.V. If you are traveling, are at your summer home, or just want to listen to part of the church service again, an audio and a video copy of the weekly church service are both available on the church website along with newsletters, bulletins, and a lot of additional information. Please be aware that due to editing, the audio and the video of the church service is posted on the website a few days after church.

    LIFE INVENTORY SHEETS

Our Christian faith assures us that death leads to eternal life with God. Meanwhile, family members, friends, and the pastors are sometimes in need of certain information that if available, could help them deal more appropriately with the grief and death of a loved one. The

church office has Life Inventory Sheets that can assist your family during that time. If you would like a form to fill out, please contact the office at (623) 935-3411 or [email protected].
