A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms,
grandmas, birth moms, adoptive moms,
foster moms, mothers-of-choice and those
struggling to conceive or give birth. This is a
day full of emotion in all directions, depending
on the situation that we live. I hope you all
feel God's blessing in your vocation.
This week, I finalized plans with Fr. Ruben
and our Spanish-speaking brothers and sis-
ters to best celebrate Fr. Ruben's time with
us. He will be here the weekend of June 3
and 4. He will preach at all the Masses and
be present afterward. We will have a nice
party Sunday after the noon Mass. There will
be food, piñatas for the children and we will
try to get a jumpy house, so they can have
fun, too. We will celebrate as one community.
It will be like a bonus fiesta in the Fr. Sherry
Parish Center.
Fr. Ruben is very excited to come back to say
goodbye and thank you. Please mark your
calendar for June 3 and 4.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul

Your Gifts to SVdPS Make a Difference Working seasonal jobs can lead to difficult months
during the "off" season. Recently,
two families contacted the St.
Vincent de Paul Society for assis-
tance with groceries to make it
through the month. In each case,
family members were employed,
but needed help until paychecks began arriving. The
SVdPS provided each family with several bags of food as
well as Aldi or Angelos gift certificates to help them
purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy products.
Your support of the SVdPS helps feed the working poor of
our community. “She opens her arms to the poor and extends
her hands to the needy." Prov 31:20
Consider Serving as a Eucharistic Minister Serving as a Eucharistic Minister is a rewarding and grati-
fying way of sharing your time and talent with the parish.
Distributing the Precious Bod and Blood of our Lord to
fellow parishioners is humbling and fulfilling. Please
prayerfully consider joining this ministry by attending a
formation session on Wednesday, May 17, at 7 to 8:30
PM in church. Thois formation session is for all who are
interested in becoming new Eucharistic Ministers. Please
fill out a registration form online or contact Kathy Gulvas
at 815-388-0513 to commit to this ministry.
First Way Mother’s Day Flower Sale The First Way Mother's Day Flower Sale will be offered
this weekend after all Masses. One hundred percent of
proceeds benefit 1st Way Pregnancy Services. Respect
Life ministry members will be on hand to collect dona-
tions for the carnations. A donation of $5 per flower will
be appreciated, but if you can contribute more, please
do, to help out those who cannot donate the full $5. First
Way purchases the carnations from a local florist, so
some of the donation defrays the expense of purchase.
Thank you for your generosity!
Hope Takes Action Needs Volunteers Hope Takes Action, a ministry of the St. Vincent de Paul
Society, is looking for five teams of volunteers to provide
lunch for those attending their
“Getting Ahead” program to try escape
the cycle of poverty. We are in need
of 20 people on Saturday mornings at
Pioneer Center in McHenry, beginning
in late August. The program runs for
20 weeks so each team would be responsible for 4
weeks. Also needed are five teams of 2 to 3 volunteers
to provide child care at the same time and location.
Again, each team would be responsible for 4 weeks. If
you are interested in volunteering, contact Bill Meath at
815-385-3251 or [email protected]. Thank
you for your prayers and support.

Marian Introduces “INCubator Edu” Marian Central Catholic High School is introducing a
new course: Innovative Design and Entrepreneurial
Application, or IDEA. The course is driven by the
INCubator Edu program, which offers students an
authentic entrepreneurship experience. Students will
develop and test their own product or service startup
in an attempt to gain investment funds in a final
shark-tank style pitch event.
Real entrepreneurs and business experts serve as
volunteer coaches and mentors guiding student
teams through the processes of developing hypothe-
ses about a business concept and testing those hy-
potheses. This cycle of experimentation is combined
with foundational business content such as marketing
and finance. The businesses students build are real—
not businesses cases or simulated experiences—
which means students experience mistakes, take
risks, and learn to pivot based on market needs.
We need YOU, the business professional, to make
this happen. Make a difference in your community
and join us for an information session on Wednesday,
May 17, in the Marian Central Cafeteria.
7:00—7:30 PM: Gathering and light refreshments
7:30—8:30 PM: Informational presentation
8:30—9:00 PM: Opportunity to network and sign-
up to be a mentor, coach,
member of the Board, or be a donor.
For more information, call the school at 815-338-
4220.

He is Really There! “I Myself Am the Living Bread come down from
heaven.” John 6:51. Take some time each week to
visit Jesus in the Divine Eucharist at the All Saints
Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Pray, listen, and feel
the peace that He gives us so lovingly. Break from
your busy life to acknowledge His comforting love.
Please pray about committing to being a perma-
nent adorer, either by yourself,
with a prayer partner or even a
group to rotate weeks. Many sched-
uled adorers are members of one
of the other churches in the
McHenry Deanery—you do not
have to be a member of Holy
Apostles to be a scheduled adorer.
Please contact Mike Thielsen to commit to a time
at 815-385-8562 or [email protected].

Pray for Our May Deceased Once a month at the 8 AM Mass on the third Sunday of
the month, we remember all those who died during that
month in past years, taken from the Holy Apostles funeral
records. Please remember them and pray that their souls
are at rest with the Lord.
Pictured above are members of a Foster Parent
Support Group that meets at Holy Apostles. If you are a
foster parent or are interested in becoming one, stop in
and join them on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the
month at 8 PM in O’Neill Reading Room. They often
have presentations by various speakers such as the
founding members of Let It Be Us!, a group that assists
children in foster care. For more information contact
Jen Marsh at 815-703-0320.
Please Let Us Know Where You Are If you are homebound, in the hospital, in a nursing home
or a rehab unit, please let your parish know. We try to
keep track of everyone as they move from one location
to another but sometimes we lose contact. If you have
not heard from someone at Holy Apostles in a while,
it may be because we don’t know where you are. There
are people who can come visit you, bring you Communion
or bring you meals. If you would like contact from your
parish, contact Jeanne Fraser at 815-388-0164 or

sidades a Nuestra Señora.

During the season of Easter, what a great time to remember our mothers and ask for God's blessing on them. It is God who ultimately gave us life. It is through God's unselfish love--mirrored in our mothers' willingness to associate their love with God's and take the risk to love us into life--
that we have the opportunity for life. We remember our mothers this Mother's Day with much love. Let us pray for each of them:
God our heavenly Father, you give to each the ability to share your generative love.
Bless those women in our lives who mirror your love
and bring forth life through their willingness to risk bringing new life into this world.
Help us to show them our gratitude
for the gift of life and the gift of a mother's love. May our life-giving God continue to bless them
and show them his unfailing love. We ask this through Jesus, God's Son and our brother. Amen.
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Francis will
declare the sainthood of Blessed Jacinta
Marto and Blessed Francisco Marto, two of
the shepherd children who saw Mary in
Fatima, Portugal, during his visit to the site
of the apparitions May 13.
The date was announced April 20 during an
"ordinary public consistory," a meeting of
the pope, cardinals and promoters of saint-
hood causes that formally ends the saint-
hood process.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the
Congregation for Saints' Causes, addressing
the assembly noted that of the future saints
considered at the consistory, five were
children or young teenagers.
"In our time, where young people often
become objects of exploitation and commerce,
these young people excel as witnesses of
truth and freedom, messengers of peace
(and) of a new humanity reconciled in love,"
the cardinal said.
Pope Francis will preside over the canoniza-
tion ceremony of the Fatima visionaries
during his visit to Fatima May 12-13.
The pilgrimage will mark the 100th
anniversary of the Marian apparitions,
which began May 13, 1917, when 9-year-
old Francisco and 7-year-old Jacinta, along
with their cousin Lucia dos Santos, reported
seeing the Virgin Mary. The apparitions con-
tinued once a month until Oct. 13, 1917,
and later were declared worthy of belief by
the Catholic Church.
A year after the apparitions, both of the
Marto children became ill during an influenza
epidemic that plagued Europe. Francisco
died April 4, 1919, at the age of 10, while
Jacinta succumbed to her illness Feb. 20,
1920, at the age of 9.
Francisco and Jacinta's cause for canoniza-
tion was stalled for decades due to a
debate on whether non-martyred children
have the capacity to understand heroic
virtues at a young age. However, in 1979,
St. John Paul II allowed their cause to
proceed; he declared them venerable in
1989 and beatified them in 2000.
The children's cousin entered the Carmelites.
Sister Lucia died in 2005 at the age of 97.
The diocesan phase of her sainthood cause
concluded in February and now is under
study at the Vatican.
Shown below are Jacinta Marto, Lucia dos
Santos and Francisco Marto, the three shep-
herd children to whom Our Lady appeared in
Fatima, Portugal, on May 13, 1917. Pope
Francis pilgrimaged to Fatima yesterday to
canonize Francisco and Jacinta into sainthood.
The Vatican is studying Sr. Lucia’s sainthood
process, which could not begin during her lifetime.
