THE CHURCH OF ST. Please leave items in the box at the back of the church. + + + I’d like to correct one detail in last week’s financial report. I wrote that we recently received another UPK rental check. In fact, it was another check from New York State for “mandated services,” dating back several years. Mea culpa! + + + The 2017 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal is underway. (Many may already have received a letter from the Appeal office.) Our goal this year is $63,500, which is an increase of about 2.5% over our assigned goal from 2015 and 2016. You may read more about the Appeal on page 6 of the bulletin; I’ll be speaking briefly about it at each Mass the weekend of March 4/5. As ever, my only request is that you pray on it and do what you can! + + + Let me conclude with a quick update on what’s happening – and planned – around our property. The first of the projects supported by the Renew+Rebuild capital campaign, the replacement of the school windows, was completed in late October. This has already dramatically improved the comfort of the building during the winter. Of the projects proposed for the interior of the church, the most significant – the rebuilding of the nar- thex, to include a lavatory and confessional – is tentatively planned for the summer of 2018. We are looking at what else might be done in the meantime; for example, the upgrading of the sound system could probably be com- pleted this year with minimal interruption. Our hope, too, is to replace the boiler in the parish center this summer. By far, the most significant project of 2017 will be the replacement of the roof on the original part of the school. Happily, and much to our surprise, tests conducted earlier this month indicate no asbestos-containing material any- where on the roof; this will save us quite a bit of money and time. Once the specifications are completed later this month, the project will be put out to bid. Finally, the rectory meeting room is undergoing an unplanned renova- tion, all due to a leaking hot water pipe; thankfully, other than a relatively small deductible, this is covered by our insurance. meetings at St. John's and sharing fellowship through a closed group on Facebook. If you are
