In July, First UMC is going to be reflecting on the words of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians. According to the Wesley Study Bible, “Colossians reveals a stunning vision of Christ – as the fullness of GOD, the agent of creation and redemption, and the one who empowers the church for Christ-like living.” In our sermon series, Words to Live By, we will be hearing these ancient words to the early Church and embrace these words in our day! July 2 & 3 (Communion) “Hope Stored Up” Colossians 1:1-14 July 9 & 10 “Steadfast in the Faith” Colossians 1:15 – 2:5 July 16 & 17 “Shadow of What is to Come” Colossians 2:6-23 July 23 & 24 “Holy Rules for Living” Colossians 3:1 – 4:1 July 30 & 31 “Stand Firm” Colossians 4:2-18 Grace and Peace, Rev. Cindi

Search for First United Methodist Church

I am blessed to join the ministry at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, starting July 2016. I believe that the Holy Spirit is powerfully present in you. I want to take this moment to introduce myself and my family to you, the Columbus church. I have been in ministry since 1997 when I was in South Korea. I served 2 Korean congregations as an associate pastor until 2006. I have known my wife in my hometown church in Ulsan, Korea since high school, and we married 1998. Our lives were dramatically changed when I decided to study in Saint Paul School of Theology in Missouri 2002. As I graduated Saint Paul School of Theology in 2007, God called me to serve an English speaking congregation, and it was the University UMC in Kansas City. It was quite a transition for me and my wife culturally, but God always guides his people through those years. After that, I served Wetmore-Goff-Corning UM Churches for 6 years. As I reflect on these years, I want to give thanks for the help and support of these churches. My wife, Younee, majored in organ in Kosin University in Pusan, Korea. She always wants to praise the Lord with her music talent. She served as a music accompanist in Leawood UMC, Kansas City for 9 and half years. This year on January, God gave us the most precious gift, the baby Risa. We have been waiting for her to come for 17 years. God always prepares the best for the last moment. As we move to Columbus, we are really excited to see how God will open the next chapter in our lives. It is a great honor for us to serve among you and we are delighted to be a part of the Columbus community. We pray that we may grow in grace, skill, ability, and wisdom to bring God’s kingdom to the Columbus community. Rev. Seong

Church Camp season is here! Church camp is the place where many youth give their hearts to Jesus. It is not too late to schedule camp for your child. Camp is very important in

the development of a heart-to-heart relationship with our Lord and Savior. Please take time to enroll your child today! A camp schedule is located in the Chapel Parlor or online at www.campfontanelle.com. The church pays one-half for every camper, and additional scholarships are available if needed. Contact Sarah Borgman for more information.

Sunday School for our

children continues all

summer! Nursery III through

Kindergarten meet in Jane’s room (Rm 005) on the

lower level where they learn about Jesus through

fun activities and with singing from 9:00-10:10 am.

Students in 1st – 6th grade meet in Room 210

upstairs from 9:00-10:00 am every Sunday. Jr. & Sr.

High are encouraged to assist. We will play games,

act out Bible stories and use different media to

create art as we hear the Word of God and discuss

what it means to us. First and Second graders go to

music with Jane at 9:50 and are finished at 10:10

am; older students are dismissed at 10:00 am.

Contact Sarah Borgman for more information.

This schedule continues for July and August.

Mission Possible Youth in Grades 5th-12th: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to engage in mission & ministry. From 10 AM to 2 PM on Thursdays in July (7, 14, 21 & 28), Mission Possible will go where no youth have gone before - okay, that is exaggerating a bit. We will be participating in local mission projects, learning about ways that we can reach out in the name of Christ to the Columbus community. Bring a sack lunch & dress comfortably. [This message will self-destruct in five seconds…or not]

Confirmation Classes! The Confirmation journey has just begun for our 8th graders. Even if your student did not attend confirmation camp, there is still an opportunity to participate in First UMC’s Confirmation process. Review retreats will be scheduled soon, so please contact Rev. Cindi today for more information. Confirmation students participate in retreats, youth group and worship as well as service projects. Each student is paired up with an adult mentor and will be confirmed in the faith this fall.

Are you looking for a place to hold your Bridal Shower, Baby Shower, Birthday Parties, Graduation or Confirmation dinners? We have not only one but two places for you to rent. The Fellowship Hall and the Outreach Center are available most weekends for you to hold your event. If you are interested in either one of them, call the Church Office and they would be glad to assist you.

JULY 23 ~ 7:30 AM—2:30 PM We are in need of 10-12 volunteers wanting to help paint interior walls, etc. and to assist with some trim work. If you are interested, please contact Chuck Kinnison or the church office at your earliest convenience.

I would like to thank all of the fantastic adult volunteers, the youth who were amazing helpers, and the church for

donating all items needed for snack time, science and play time. We had 75 three-year-olds—4th grade and 11 “Tween” 5th & 6th graders for the Vacation Bible School. I am also very grateful for my two partners, Sarah Borgman and Kristi Wolfe. I had to leave on the second day due to my mom’s health; because of these two wonderful ladies I was able to focus on my mom as I knew the rest of the week was in good hands. I appreciate all of my church family and can’t wait for next year’s “VBS!” Sincerely, Rose Dannelly
