JULY / AUGUST 2019 | VOLUME 25 | ISSUE 7 & 8
Summer 2019
Dear Friends, Welcome to our summer newsletter. I’m hoping you have plans to relax and enjoy whatever it is that nurtures your soul and rejuvenates your life over these summer days. Rest is not only a good thing for you to do, we are called to set aside time for holy rest: Sabbath. In Genesis, a part of the creation story refers to God’s rest: “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.” Further along in Scripture, the message of holy rest, Sabbath, is given to God’s people: “Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest, so that your ox and your donkey may have relief …”. I hope you have time over these beautiful summer months to relax, do what fuels your soul, listen and look to God. If you’re on the beach, take a moment to marvel at God’s good creation … and give God a prayer of thanks. If you’re with family, think of the wonderful family that you are part of: the family of God’s children … and say a prayer for God’s lost children. If you’re reconnecting with good friends, remember you have a friend, Jesus, who promises that you will never be left alone; take a minute to pray for those good friends who surround you. If it’s good book time, before you dig in, take a few minutes to read a passage from the “Good Book,” the Bible (Psalms are always a good place to start). You might also prayerfully consider joining a study class when we start our classes in the fall. When you are doing whatever makes you happy, take a moment to give God a word of praise for all that God has given to you. Plan to include God in your plans, and you’ll find God right there beside you: wherever you travel, in whatever you do this summer. Blessings to you for a peaceful and restful Sabbath time of July and August!
God bless,
~Pastor Laura
Just a reminder that we’re here all summer! Worship at 9 am … one hour … casual comfortable dress encouraged.

From the Stewardship Committee
First, for those of you who missed out, a great time was had by all at Chalk Night on June 17th
. Even those like myself without an artistic bone in our body had fun making our creations and enjoying the company of all who were there. A special thanks to Timi Piccioretti for leading the class and we look forward to doing this again in the future.
Second, the 144 project is in full swing, and we hope to keep the momentum going and complete the board as soon as possible. This is important as Asbury is facing a possibly significant deficit in our budget this year and we are looking to minimize any end of year shortfall. If you are unable to come to Asbury to pick up an envelope and would like to participate, you can by sending a check to the office with a note saying 144. Amounts can be whatever you would like, so if you want to donate based on something meaningful to you, like an anniversary or child’s birthdate, any amount will be greatly appreciated. So let’s have some fun with this and keep Asbury moving forward!
Yours in Christ, Christopher Wright
A MESSAGE FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
School is out; vacation and weekend trips are on our minds. Tis the time to enjoy the good weather and family outings. As you make plans for the summer change in activities, don't forget Asbury. We will be having service every Sunday and we hope and plan to see you there. If per chance you will be enjoying a Sunday away from Bristol, remember we still have to cover our expenses every week. Before you head out, mail a check to the church covering a week or a month's contribution. This will help us avoid late charges that can happen when attendance is down and bill payment is postponed until receipts are back to normal. Please enjoy the summer and help keep our bills current.
Thank you from the Finance Committee

The Ants Go Marching One By One…
With the onset of warm weather, to everyone who donates their returnable beverage containers to the church, be aware that if you store returnables in your garage, or outside, it is important to rinse and drain containers (especially cans).
The residue left in containers is a magnetic attraction for our little friends, the ANTS, and it makes for a real problem when brought into the church. Your attention to this will be much appreciated.
Once again thank you to all who participate.

Summer is here, but we all know what follows: The Yankee Peddlar Fair!
Time to see if you can get involved. There are many opportunities for all to help: in the bakery, kitchen grill, cookie room, and auction room. We can definitely use your help in the craft room by knitting, crocheting and/or sewing items to be sold.
If you are thinking about selling your own crafts, it is time to secure your table. The spaces go quickly! Last year, most table spaces were sold by August 30th. See Pat Sallstrom or Heidi Borkowski for more information and an application. Payment is due with application.
Looking ahead to our Yankee Peddlar Fair the Silent Auction Room is trying a new look.
We are looking for baskets to raffle. Committees can chip in together, friends can join together or donate your own. Some theme ideas: Italian, Spa, Pet, Beach, Birthday, Baking, Cooking. Reminder - no alcohol. If you have a basket to donate, please see Heidi or Gardner by October 1.
