Essential Question

What is the circulatory system and

how does it interact with other

systems?

What you will know about the

circulatory system after the lesson.

Explain/ show pathway (drop of blood

starting in Aorta)

Organs/ functions of each found in

these system (in order)

Explain where to find oxygenated vs.

deoxygenated blood within the body.

White blood cells vs. Red blood cells

Defend the body from diseases

They are colorless (no pigment)

Have a short life span of 5-21 days

Transports oxygen from the lung to

the tissues

They are about 5 million

Life span: 120 Days

Oxygenated blood vs. Deoxygenated

blood

Oxygenated blood Deoxygenated blood

Oxygenated Blood

Oxygenated

blood is blood

with oxygen.

Oxygenated

blood goes to the

body.

Page 8: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

Deoxygenated Blood

Deoxygenated blood- is blood without oxygen.

Deoxygenated blood goes to the lungs.

Pathway of blood starting

Veins carry blood to the heart.

Arteries carry blood away from the heart.

Organs of the Circulatory System and

their function (in order)

Page 12: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

1.Heart

The hearts main

function in the

circulatory

system is to

pump blood

throughout the

body.

Page 13: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

2. Artery

Arteries are

strong tubes, or

vessels, that

carry blood from

your heart to the

rest of your body.

Page 14: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

3. Capillary

Capillaries carry

blood away from

the body and

exchange

nutrients, waste,

and oxygen with

tissues at the

cellular level.

Page 15: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

4. Vein

Veins are an important

part of the circulatory

system. They are

responsible for

returning

deoxygenated blood

back to the heart

after arteries carry

blood out.

Page 16: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

5. Heart (again)

Blood comes

back to the

heart and the

cycle restarts.

Page 17: The Circulatory System - Science with Ms. Hawksmshawks.weebly.com/uploads/1/...circulatory_system... · What you will know about the circulatory system after the lesson. Explain

How does the circulatory interact with the

four other systems to help sustainlife?

The circulatory system circulates

blood throughout the body, this is

important to the other systems

because blood carries nutrients and

other very important substances

throughout the body.

We also need blood to live.

What is the circulatory system?

Circulates blood throughout the body!
