From three-point range, the Catamounts have hit 98 treys, equaling the number the opposition has converted. Western Carolina has forced 185 turnovers on the year, but has been losing the battle under the basket as opponents have corralled in 39.5 boards per game compared to 33.0 per contest by the Catamounts. Three players enter SoCon play averaging 10.0 points per game or more led by Deriece Parks’ 11.3 points per game off 40.0% (48-of-120) shooting, including a team-leading 29 three-pointers. Behind Parks is Matt Halvorsen with 10.1 points per game and Mike Amius with 10.0. Amius has hit on 50.0% (42-of-84) of his attempts from the field while Halvorsen is second on the team with 28 made three-pointers. Marc Gosselin leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per contest to compliment 8.0 points per game. The quartet of Parks, Halvorsen, Amius and Gosselin have started the majority of the Catamounts’ games with Devin Peterson having started eight of the 11 contests he has played in.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will open the 2018 portion of the season with a road trip to two of the top teams in the conference. The trek will begin on Thursday, Jan. 4 at Furman and will end on Saturday, Jan. 6 at Wofford. The Paladins (9-4) are tied with ETSU and UNCG for tops in the league heading into SoCon play while the Terriers (8-4), who knocked off nationally-ranked North Carolina before the holiday break, are currently fourth.

LAST TIME OUT (L, 65-94 at Ohio State): The Citadel men’s basketball team closed out the non-conference portion of the 2017-18 campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 19 with a 94-65 loss at Ohio State on the Big Ten Network at Value City Arena. The Citadel was able to hang with the Buckeyes during the early going of the contest, keeping within striking distance as Tariq Simmons hit a layup nearly five minutes in that had the Bulldogs within three, 12-9 of the Buckeyes. After Andre Wesson gave Ohio State its first double-digit lead with 9:42 remaining in the first half, putting the Buckeyes up 22-12, Simmons hit a three-pointer to cut back into the deficit, but Ohio State went on a 15-0 run from there to open up the lead. Ohio State established a 44-23 lead by halftime after the Bulldogs struggled to shoot the ball down the stretch, converting just 22.9% (8-of-35) of their attempts from the field in the first half. The Bulldogs failed to score any points for nearly five minutes twice in the first half, allowing the Buckeyes to stretch the lead out from single digits to 21 by the intermission. The second half proved to be a better performance for the Bulldogs as far as shooting goes as the Bulldogs hit on 41.7% (15-of-36) of their shot attempts from the field and converted eight of their 18 three-point attempts (44.4%). However, the Bulldogs could just not close in on the Buckeyes as Ohio State shot 50.0% (37-of-74) from the field for the game, including a blistering 59.4% (19-of-32) in the first stanza. Freshman Kaiden Rice set a new career high as he led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points, including converting four three-pointers. Fellow freshman Alex Reed followed up his career day on Saturday, Dec. 16 – where he scored 18 points against Point – by netting 11 off 4-of-6 shooting (66.7%) from the field, including 3-of-5 (60.0%) from three-point range. Junior Zane Najdawi was the final Bulldog to score in double figures with 11 in 25 minutes of work. Quayson Williams led the team with seven rebounds while Kaelon Harris brought down six boards, matching Najdawi on the glass. Ohio State was led by a quartet of players in double figures, including Bates-Diop and Williams both with 17 points. C.J. Jackson netted 13 points while Andrew Dakich chipped in 10. Bates-Diop, Jackson and Williams all converted three three-pointers and Jackson had seven assists on the night.

TOP-10 NATIONALLY: Heading into Saturday’s SoCon opener against Western Carolina, the Bulldogs are in the top-10 in the nation in five statistical categories. The Citadel is third in the nation in steals per game with 11.6 per contest and fourth in turnovers forced, averaging 20.58 turnovers forced per outing. THE BULLDOGS NATIONALLY: The Bulldogs are in the top-20 in the nation in three other categories, including 11th in three-point field goals attempted (410), 15th in points per game (87.3) and 17th in total three-pointers made (141).

CLIMBING THE RANKS: Junior Matt Frierson boasts 142 made three-pointers for his career, the 10th-most in program history. He needs 18 more to reach a tie for eighth. The school record for three-pointers made in a career is 295, set by Zach Urbanus (2007-11).

RELIABLE STARTER: Frankie Johnson’s start on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Ohio State marked the 22nd consecutive game the sophomore point guard has started a game for the Bulldogs, the longest active streak on the team.

ECLIPSING THE CENTURY MARK: With the 110-66 win over Point, the Bulldogs improve to 12-2 when scoring at least 100 points under head coach Duggar Baucom. The Citadel posted two 100-point games during the 2015-16 season and went 7-2 last year when eclipsing the century mark. This season, the Bulldogs are 3-0 when scoring at least 100 points.

FORCING TURNOVERS: The 31 turnovers by Point is tied for the fifth-most by an opponent in program history. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs forced Trinity Baptist to turn the ball over 38 times, the third-most in program history.

WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE: The game against Point marked the ninth time this season the Bulldogs have won the turnover battle. The Bulldogs boast a +6.5 turnover margin on the year, the seventh-best in the nation.

2 FROM 3: Junior Quayson Williams converted two three-pointers on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Point, giving him 130 made treys for his career. The mark has him in sole possession of 13th in program history. He needs just two more to reach 12th.

CAREER NIGHT FOR FRIERSON: Frierson’s 22 points against Campbell marked a career-high for the junior, eclipsing his previous mark of 21 set last season against Johnson on Nov. 13, 2016. His seven made field goals matched his career high, set in the game with Johnson, and he also set a career high with five made free throws on six attempts. Hit previous career high for both free throws made and attempted was three set earlier this season at Florida State.

GETTING UP: Frankie Johnson’s team-high eight rebounds against the Camels of Campbell matched his career high in the category, set last season against USC Upstate on Dec. 3, 2016.

BAUCOM IN WITH THE BEST: Head coach Duggar Baucom has been listed in the top 10 of CoachStat.net’s “Top Quick Hitting D1 Coaches”. Baucom is listed as No. 7 on the list of 25 coaches, a list that includes the likes of Oregon’s Dana Altman (No. 1), Duke’s Mike Kryzewski (No. 2), North Carolina’s Roy Williams (No. 4) and Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall (No. 19), among others. The writer had this to say, “Baucom teams are always good in transition with the ability to score in a variety of ways. His offense has been called the ‘sprint and strike’ and ‘loot and shoot.’ Essentially, when you move the ball well, you get open threes… quickly.”

OPENING THE GAME ON A RUN: In the game against James Madison (12/5), the Bulldogs opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Dukes finally got on the scoreboard. It was the best start to a game this season for the Bulldogs and the first time the Bulldogs have scored the first seven points of a game since last season when the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead over Toccoa Falls on Dec. 7, 2016. The Citadel is 2-1 this season when scoring first.

FINDING A WAY TO WIN: The Bulldogs’ win over JMU marks just the second time this season that the Bulldogs have pulled out a victory when trailing with 5:00 to play in regulation. The other time came on Saturday, Nov. 18 at High Point when the Bulldogs won 79-77 despite trailing the Panthers by three at the time.

SHOOTING AT A BLISTERING CLIP: The Bulldogs shot 61.3% (19-of-31) in the first half against JMU. It marked the first time since Nov. 28, 2016, against Presbyterian that the Bulldogs shot 60% or better in the first half of a game.

SOLID NIGHT FOR FRANKIE: Sophomore Frankie Johnson’s five assists on Tuesday, Dec. 5 against JMU matched his season-high set at Virginia Tech on Nov. 12. His career high for assists was nine set last season against UNCG on March 4, 2017. Johnson also led the team in scoring with 15 points and had three steals in 32 minutes of work.

BLOCK PARTY FOR JOHNSON: Freshman Rob Johnson had a solid night defensively for the Bulldogs against JMU as he swatted away four shots and corralled in four defensive boards in 19 minutes of work. He also scored a season-high 11 points off 4-of-5 shooting.

SHOOTING THE THREE: On Friday, Dec. 1 against Marist, the Bulldogs connected on 15 three-pointers as a team, the second-most treys made by the team this season. The 15 treys is tied for 16th-most in a single game by the Bulldogs in program history. The squad converted 21 in the season-opener against Oglethorpe, tying the program record.

FRESHMEN LOGGING MINUTES: The Bulldogs have had as many as four freshmen on the court at the same time in multiple games this season. With six freshmen on the roster of 12, the Bulldogs will rely heavily on the youth to play plenty of meaningful minutes this season.

SWATTING THEM AWAY: Zane Najdawi blocked his 102nd career shot on Friday, Dec. 1 against Marist. His 102 blocks have him currently fifth all-time in program history. He is just one block away from tying Shawn Brown for fourth all-time in the category. The program record for blocks in a career is 215 set by Kirill Misyuchenko (1995-98).

SHARING THE ROCK: On Tuesday, Nov. 21, The Bulldogs registered 32 assists in the win over Trinity Baptist off 45 made field goals. It was the fourth most assists by a Bulldog team in a single game. The program record for assists in a single game was set during the 2015-16 season when The Citadel had 42 assists against Mid-Atlantic Christian on Nov. 17, 2015.

SWIPING THE BALL: The Bulldogs’ 25 steals off of the Eagles’ 38 turnovers on Tuesday, Nov. 21 were the third-most by a Bulldog team for a single game. The record is 27 set last season against Johnson on Nov. 13, 2016.

SCORING IN BUNCHES: The Bulldogs’ 58 points in the first half against Trinity Baptist on Tuesday, Nov. 21 were the 11th-most points scored in an opening half by a Citadel basketball team. The most scored were 83 set during the 2015-16 season against Mid-Atlantic Christian on Nov. 19, 2015.

FIRST ROAD WIN VS. HIGH POINT: With the 79-77 win at High Point on Saturday, the Bulldogs are now 3-3 all-time against the Panthers and broke a three-game skid in High Point. Prior to Saturday’s game, High Point had won all three previous meetings in High Point.

FRESHMEN LEADING THE WAY: The duo of Tariq Simmons and Hayden Brown combined to score 44 of the Bulldogs’ 93 points Sunday, Nov. 12 at Virginia Tech, including 20 in the first half from Simmons and 13 in the second half from Brown. Brown started the game off by hitting his first seven shots and ended the game 9-for-10 from the field. With 22 points from Brown and 22 points from Simmons, it was the first time two freshmen had scored 20 or more points in one game since Preston Parks and Leandro Allende scored 28 and 23 points at Western Carolina on Jan. 19, 2017.

WIN THE OPENER: The Bulldogs’ win over Oglethorpe on Friday, Nov. 10 marked the first time The Citadel had won the season opener since the

2012-13 season when the Bulldogs netted an 84-76 win over VMI in the All Military Classic.

RECORD PERFORMANCE FROM THREE: The Bulldogs made 21 three-pointers in the season opener against Oglethorpe. The 21 made treys matched the program record for most treys in a single game set on Nov. 9, 2007, when The Citadel connected on 21 of its three-pointers against Daniel Webster.

THE BULLDOGS SCORING 100 IN THE OPENER: The 109 points scored in the opener against Oglethorpe were the most the Bulldogs have ever scored against the Stormy Petrels and marks the most points scored in a season opener since the 2007-08 team scored 131 in a 131-79 win against Daniel Webster.

YOUTH BEING SERVED: Duggar Baucom is fielding one of the youngest teams in all of NCAA Division I with six freshmen, three sophomores, three juniors and no seniors. The Citadel is one of five teams in the country that have reported having no seniors and is one of six teams that have reported having three or fewer upperclassmen.

HALF A DOZEN FRESHMEN: Only SoCon rival Chattanooga, national powerhouse Kentucky and Northeast Conference school Robert Morris report having more freshmen than The Citadel. Both the Mocs and the Wildcats boast eight freshmen - seven true and one redshirt on each squad - while the Colonials have seven, including six true and one redshirt.

BREAKING DOWN THE FRESHMEN NUMBERS: Both Kentucky and Chattanooga’s rosters are 57% freshmen and 50% true freshmen. George Mason is the next closest with 50% of its roster being freshmen and Robert Morris’s roster is 47% freshmen. The Citadel’s six freshmen make up 46% of the 13-man roster.

UPPERCLASSMEN NUMBERS: Of the six teams in the country that have reported having three or fewer upperclassmen, Kentucky and North Florida each report having just two upperclassmen. Kentucky boasts the smallest percentage of upperclassmen with only 14% of its roster being made up of two juniors. UNF boasts the next smallest percentage of upperclassmen with only 18% of its roster being made up of two seniors and no juniors. The Citadel’s three juniors make up 23% of its roster, the third-fewest in the country of those schools that have reported.

TOUGH STRETCH TO START THINGS: The Bulldogs started the regular season with a stretch of four games in nine days, including three road games in seven days. The Citadel tipped the season off at home against Oglethorpe on Friday, Nov. 10, and then hit the road for a game at Virginia Tech on Sunday, Nov. 12. On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Bulldogs traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina, to take on North Carolina A&T and closed out the first road trek of the season with a game at High Point on Saturday, Nov. 18.

HEAD COACH (THIRD SEASON)

DUGGARBAUCOMDuggar Baucom was named as the 30th head coach in The Citadel men’s basketball history on March 30, 2015 after a successful 10-year stint at VMI.

In his second season at the helm of the program, Baucom and company posted 12 wins including a 5-0 start in McAlister Field House and a win in the Southern Conference tournament for the first time since 2010. The 12 wins in 2016-17 were the most since the 2009-10 season, most by a second-year head coach since 1986-87 and fifth-most in school history by a second-year head coach. Baucom also eclipsed a milestone of his own on Nov. 15, 2016 as he earned his 200th career win in dominating fashion with a 119-90 victory over Truett McConnell. The Bulldogs, led by Baucom’s fast-paced style of play, led all of Division I in scoring with a blistering 89.8 points per game, marking the seventh time a Baucom led team finished with the highest-scoring offense in Division I. During the 2016-17 season, the ‘Dogs shattered eight single-season team records and six single-game records as they rolled to a 146-84 win over Johnson University (Florida). The 146 points bettered the previous single-game points record Baucom set in 2015-16 season against Mid-Atlantic Christian by 14 points and the 80 second half points broke the previous record set back in 1972. In the same game, the Bulldogs tallied 27 steals against the Suns which ranked second in the nation while their 34 assists ranked fourth. The Citadel also scored 144 points on Dec. 7 against Toccoa Falls, giving them the two highest single-game point totals in the NCAA during the 2016-17 season. The team also finished with five of the 11 highest-scoring performances in the SoCon and for the second consecutive year, led the conference in scoring offense and turnover margin. After posting just two 100-point games in his first season, Baucom’s squad racked up nine 100-point games with five of them coming on the road. The Bulldogs also had just five games with multiple players scoring at least 20 points last season but posted 10 games with multiple 20-point scorers and five games with a 30-point scorer in 2016-17. The Citadel’s six freshmen racked up 57 double-digit scoring games and were led by SoCon Freshman of the Year Preston Parks. Parks, who was also named to the media all-freshman team along with Kaelon Harris, averaged 18.1 points per game and 22.1 points per game in conference play. Parks, who is the first freshman to lead the SoCon in scoring in conference play since Davidson’s Stephen Curry in 2006-07, is only the second Bulldog to ever earn the award. Baucom also guided Zane Najdawi as he increased his scoring average by eight points, posted six double-doubles and earned two SoCon Player of the Week honors, The Citadel’s first weekly awards since 2014. Baucom also guided The Citadel to its first win at Wofford since 2007 and his first win on their homecourt as they downed the Terriers 104-103 on Jan. 2, 2017. The Bulldogs also snapped an eight-game losing streak against Chattanooga on Senior Night, giving the class of 2017 their first win ever over the Mocs. The Bulldogs also hosted the inaugural Holy City Hoops Classic inside McAlister Field House, finishing 3-1 in the tournament.

Baucom steered the Bulldogs to 10 victories in his first campaign at The Citadel with a roster that returned just 28.6 percent of its scoring from the 11-win 2014-15 season. In just one season, Baucom improved the Bulldogs’ scoring average as a team by 22 points as The Citadel finished second in the nation in points per game with 86.0 points per contest. His new system, defined by a blistering pace offensively and constant pressure defensively, made a significant mark in year one. Under Baucom’s direction, The Citadel scored more than 100 points twice after the Bulldogs had done so just once since 1989. His first squad in Charleston shattered single-season school records for total team points, steals, field goals made and three-pointers made and ranked fifth among all Division I programs in turnovers forced per game. The Bulldogs also set a new program record for points scored in a single game with a jaw-dropping 132 points in a 72-point rout over Mid-Atlantic Christian. Baucom launched his tenure at The Citadel in style, leading the Bulldogs to a 5-2 mark through seven games, their best start since 2004-05. The hot start was fueled by three wins in three days at the Palmetto State Shootout. The Citadel’s spotless week at the Shootout earned the Dogs a tournament title over Thanksgiving break. A month later, Baucom and company improved to 7-4 with a 99-87 road win at Bethune-Cookman as the Bulldogs racked up the most points at the Wildcats’ Moore Gymnasium since Feb. 11, 1991. The Bulldogs battled through a tough Southern Conference slate to end the season and finished Baucom’s first campaign 4-2 in games decided by three points or less. Baucom is now just two victories shy of reaching the 200-win mark as a head coach as he moves toward the 2016-17 season with a 198-200 overall record that includes his two years at the helm of Tusculum.

Baucom amassed a 151-159 record with the Keydets. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native left VMI as the school’s all-time leader in wins. His 10 years represent the third-longest coaching tenure in Keydet history. Baucom, who led the Keydets to three Big South Tournament championship games, is one of two VMI head basketball coaches to post two 20-win seasons.

His 2008-09 team won 24 games, the second most in school history trailing only the 1976-77 team that advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. VMI’s second-place finish in the Big South that season was easily its best since joining the circuit in 2003-04. It also resulted in Baucom’s winning the NABC District Three Coach of the Year.

In 2013-14, VMI advanced to the semifinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, which was its first postseason appearance in 37 years.

Baucom’s feverish style resulted in VMI leading the nation in scoring offense six times in an eight-year span including 2006-07 (100.9 ppg), 2007-08 (91.3), 2008-09 (93.8), 2009-10 (88.6) and 2010-11 (87.9) and 2013-14 (88.3). The Keydets also made three appearances in the Big South Conference final and witnessed two national scoring titles by Reggie Williams (2006-07, 28.1 ppg; 2007-08, 27.8 ppg) in that stretch.

His head coaching career began at Tusculum where he posted a 37-19 overall record. Baucom was responsible for guiding the Pioneers to their first South Atlantic Conference Tournament (SAC) championship and automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament (2004-05).

In his first season at the helm, Baucom led Tusculum to a 19-8 overall record, including a 10-4 mark in conference action, and earned the conference’s Coach of the Year honor.

Baucom made his move to Greeneville, Tennessee, after serving as an assistant for three years at Western Carolina. While with the Catamounts he oversaw the recruiting efforts and landed several top players including guard Kevin Martin, a 2004 first-round draft pick of the Sacramento Kings.

After three years at the helm of the AAU Charlotte Royals, Baucom became an assistant coach at Davidson for the 1995-96 season. He parlayed that into an assistant coaching position at Mars Hill for the next two seasons. There, he performed a variety of duties including scouting, film exchange, recruiting coordination and the development of strength and conditioning program.

That experience helped Baucom to obtain the role of assistant coach at Northwestern (La.) State in 1998-99, where he implemented a skill development program for perimeter players while directing scouting and coordination of recruiting visits.

Baucom is a 1995 graduate of UNC Charlotte.

ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH (THIRD SEASON)

Daniel

WILLISDaniel Willis, who spent the 10 seasons on Baucom’s VMI staff from 2005-15, followed his mentor to Charleston and now enters his third campaign as associate head coach for the Bulldogs.

In his first season alongside Baucom at The Citadel, Willis helped lay the groundwork for the staff’s high-paced offense and pressure defense. The Bulldogs went from averaging 64 points per game in 2014-15 to 86 points per game in 2015-16 (which ranked second in the nation) in just one season with Baucom and Willis at the helm. The Citadel set new single-season team records for total points scored, total steals, total field goals made and total three-pointers made. Willis aided his mentor in guiding a roster with just five returnees to 10 wins, including seven nonconference victories.

In 2016-17, Willis and company posted 12 wins while leading all of Division I in scoring with an average of 89.8 points per game and shattering eight single-season team records. The Bulldogs’ 12 wins were the most since the 2009-10 season as they picked up their first road victory over Wofford since 2007 and snapped an eight-game losing to Chattanooga. The Citadel also led the Southern Conference in seven different categories and for the second consecutive year led the conference in scoring offense and turnover margin. The Bulldogs continued to push the ball in their high-paced offense in 2016-17, posting nine 100-point games with five of those coming on the road. Led by Willis and the coaching staff, Preston Parks and Kaelon Harris were named to the SoCon Media All-Freshman team and Parks earned SoCon Freshman of the Year honors. Parks is just the second Bulldog to earn the award in program history and the second to earn the distinction under Baucom and Willis after VMI’s D.J. Covington earned the honor in the Big South in 2010-11.

While Willis was with Baucom at VMI, the Keydets led the nation in scoring offense six times in an eight-year span including 2006-07 (100.9 ppg), 2007-08 (91.3), 2008-09 (93.8), 2009-10 (88.6) and 2010-11 (87.9) and 2013-14 (88.3). The Keydets also made three appearances in the Big South Conference finals and witnessed two national scoring titles by Reggie Williams (2006-07, 28.1 ppg; 2007-08, 27.8 ppg) in that stretch.

In his first season at VMI, Willis filled in admirably for Baucom in 2005-06 when the head coach was sidelined for seven games during the month of January. Willis guided the Keydets to conference wins over Coastal Carolina and Liberty.

Willis was also an assistant under Baucom at Tusculum as the pair played a key role in the Pioneers’ memorable run in 2004-05 season. Together they led Tusculum to an 18-11 overall record, the program’s first South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship and automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Before his stint at Tusculum, Willis served as an assistant coach for three seasons (2001-04) at Western Carolina alongside Baucom, who was then an assistant with the Catamounts. Willis spent his first two seasons in Cullowhee, N.C., as a graduate assistant coach while earning a master’s degree, before being escalated to full-time status on the WCU staff in 2003-04.

ASSISTANT COACH(THIRD SEASON)

Willie

BellWillie Bell enters his third season under head coach Duggar Baucom after finishing up his second campaign coaching at the collegiate level. In an assistant role, Bell aids with player development and scouting. He and the staff implemented a brand new system at The Citadel in 2015-16 that featured Baucom’s famous high-paced offense and pressure defense.

In his second season at The Citadel, Bell and company led Division I in scoring with an average of 89.8 points per game and ranked in the top-16 in eight other categories. The Bulldogs also led the Southern Conference in seven different categories as they won their first SoCon tournament game since 2010 and posted 12 wins in 2016-17, the most since the 2009-10 season. Bell also worked with Zane Najdawi as the sophomore increased his scoring average by eight points, posted six double-doubles and earned two Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, the first weekly awards for The Citadel since 2014.

The Bulldogs set new single season team records for points scored, steals, field goals made and three-pointers made in 2015-16 on their way to 10 wins. Bell helped the squad improve its scoring offense by 22 points per game from the 2014-15 campaign as the Dogs’ 86 points per contest in 2015-16 ranked second in the nation.

Bell joined Baucom’s Citadel staff after serving as the head coach at Warwick High School (Newport News, Va.) in 2014-15. He led the Raiders to a 12-11 overall record, including a 6-1 finish in the Pen South Conference, as he captured league Coach of the Year honors. Bell’s unit garnered a pair of first and second team All-Pen South members.

In 2013-14, as the head junior varsity and varsity assistant coach, Bell helped lead Warwick to a 13-13 record. The nine-win improvement at the varsity level from the previous season resulted in the Raiders finishing second in the Conference 9 regular season and postseason tournament.

Prior to his stint at Warwick, Bell served as the head junior varsity and varsity assistant coach at Denbigh High School, also located in his native Newport News, Va.

His first coaching experience came at Louisiana-Monroe in 2009-10 under head coach Orlando Early. Bell, who worked primarily as the skills development coordinator with guards and forwards, was responsible for the organization of team’s travel plans.

Bell also has coaching experience on the AAU circuit with the Boo Williams Summer League 15u Elite Team (2014) and with the Newport Legends (2010-11). He was also camp counselor for basketball camps at Davidson (2009) and VMI (2006-10).

Bell, a two-sport athlete at VMI, played under Baucom for four seasons (2005-09) and was a member of the Big South Conference Tournament runner-up teams in 2007 and 2009. He was team captain of the 2008-09 unit that posted a 24-8 record, the second-best record in program history, while capturing a 111-103 victory over Kentucky at Rupp Arena.

He earned his degree in business economics from VMI in 2009.

ASSISTANT COACH (SECOND SEASON)

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS (SECOND SEASON)

Jack KYLE

Castleberry COMBSJack Castleberry enters his second season at The Citadel with eight years of coaching experience at the collegiate level under his belt. As Director of Basketball Operations, Castleberry oversees the administrative areas of the Bulldogs’ basketball program including practice coordination, team travel and supervision of graduate assistants along with other responsibilities.

In Castleberry’s first season at The Citadel, the Bulldogs led Division I in scoring offense and ranked second in turnovers forced and total three-point field goals made while also shattering eight single-season team records.

He most recently served as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at Siena College from 2012-14 before opting to transition to a financial planning career for the last two years. Castleberry attended Virginia Military Institute and walked on to the Keydets’ basketball team. Following Castleberry’s sophomore season, VMI hired Coach Baucom, who steered the Keydets to new heights of success. Castleberry played a major role in setting the precedent for that success as his relentless motor and work ethic on the court earned him a full scholarship. Coach Baucom named him team captain for the 2006-07 campaign and he led the Keydets to the most victories in a season in more than a decade. Upon graduation, Castleberry immediately landed an assistant coaching position at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Following a year there, he returned to VMI and worked under Coach Baucom from 2008-12, assisting in player development, recruiting and scheduling and serving as the team’s academic coordinator.

Kyle Combs enters his second season at The Citadel and first as the Bulldogs’ Director of Basketball Operations. Combs oversees the administrative areas of the Bulldogs’ basketball program including practice coordination, team travel and supervision of graduate assistants along with other responsibilities involving the day-to-day runnings of the program.

A four-year starter and letter winner at Methodist University, Combs comes to The Citadel after teaching health and physical education at Reid Ross Classical School for the past year. While at Methodist, Combs was voted Most Improved Player following his sophomore season and was named team captain for his senior campaign. In 2013, he also served as the Vice President on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

While teaching at Reid Ross Classical, Combs returned to his alma mater to serve as the assistant men’s basketball coach for both the varsity and junior varsity squads. During his time as assistant coach for the Monarchs, Combs served as strength and conditioning coordinator, coordinated workouts for the team and assisted with recruiting. He also assisted with scouting and creating practice and game schedules.

Combs, a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Methodist University in 2013. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Leadership at The Citadel.
