The city of Phoenix
has announced the new
Reimagine Phoenix
campaign, with the goal to
divert 40 percent of waste
from our landfill by the year
2020. The campaign
encourages everyone to
reduce, reuse, recycle,
reconsider and then
reimagine Phoenix as a
leader in sustainable
practices. The Certified
Clean Green Program is one
of the programs designed
and implemented to help
divert large amounts of clean
green waste from the landfill.

Chapter 27 of the city of Phoenix Code
sets the standards for proper collection,
storage, transportation, treatment, processing
and disposal of solid waste and recyclable
materials. It also authorizes city operations to
develop diversion
programs that benefit our
environment while saving
our customers time and
money. One such
diversion program is the
Certified Clean Green
Program. This program is
designed to offer savings
to businesses who frequent Phoenix transfer
stations to dump their green waste loads.
The Certified Clean Green Program
diverts green organic waste that can be turned
into compost, mulch or possible fuel, and keep
them out of the landfills.
Applying for the Certified Clean Green
Program is quick and easy:
Call 602-495-3784 for an application form and details on class times and location.
Attend a Certified Clean Green training class in person, which consists of watching an informational video, class discussion about the program and Q&A.
The program is free.
After completing
the Certified Clean
Green class, you
are entitled to
disposal savings at
both Phoenix transfer stations — 27th
Avenue Facility and the North Gateway
Facility. Your class moderator will explain
further the savings . These disposal savings
are offered Monday through Friday only.
Loads contain pre-sorted, approved
green organics materials only.
Green organics materials are unbagged, less than 4 feet in length and less than 12 inches in diameter.
Trash and animal manure are separated
from the green organics material and must be unloaded in specific areas.
Certified Clean Green customers
need to be mindful of possible
contamination. Green waste loads must
be free from litter and trash.
Contamination in green waste loads will
lead to the removal from the program.
There are also certain kinds of plants
that cannot be included in certified clean
green waste loads:
Oleanders
Pyracantha
Palm fronds
These plants are either too fibrous or
have poisonous sap that could affect the
mulch product.
