Questions About the 2019 Called General Conference? Get Answers and Participate in Prayer and Open Discussion - Wednesday Nights in February

Many members of UMC’s around the country have questions or have heard rumors about the upcoming called General Conference which is being held in St. Louis, MO, from February 23 to 26, 2019. Dealing with The Way Forward from the Commission of the Council on Bishop’s voting that will be taking place at this confer-ence. Rev. Jeff and Rev. Amy want to take the four Wednesdays in February to present the COB’s report and recommendation to General Conference via our bishop’s power point. We also want to provide some UMC history behind the documents, as well as review a UMC Study which theologically looks at a few of these is-sues using an open discussion format. We will be using the curriculum, “Living Faithfully,” for two of the ses-sions. Our Monday Morning Bible Study group went through this book last fall and found it helpful. Regard-less of the results of General Conference, we want CPUMC to know that we continue to be an open, loving, grace-filled church where all children of God can worship harmoniously even when (or if) we have some disa-greements. In this light nothing changes or at least, nothing should. Please join us for Wednesday Night Din-ner and Discussions in February! We will end the season with a prayer event TBD.

Interested in playing the handbells? Contact Candiss Krug,

our organist. Practice starts back on February 20 in Room 103 at 4:45 p.m.

BLUE CHRISTMAS WORSHIP WELL-RECEIVED On December 6 City Point UMC held its’ first Blue Christmas Worship Ser-vice. We had 23 in attendance and this quiet, reflective service included beau-tiful music by Candiss Krug and Allison Ward. I also would like to extend a special thank you to Max Wynn, Mary Knowles and Susan Scott who all assisted with various items to make the service a truly meaningful event for all who attended. We have had such a pos-itive response that we are already plan-ning another as part of our Advent 2019. If you would like to learn more about this or possibly assist with next year’s service, please contact Rev. Amy Tate-Almy, Associate Minister.

All Homebound Members Received a Holiday Visit

I just want to thank the Monday Morning Bible Study, our Stephen Ministers and our Visitation Team. I can report that EVERY single hospi-

talized or homebound member received at LEAST one visit from a church member or pastor of CPUMC be-tween Thanksgiving and New Year’s. And many re-ceived two or three visits! Blankets, goody bags or poin-settias were all distributed. There were also several meals or communion offered. In some cases, there were good, long personal visits. What a blessing! Thank you to every church member who participated. If you would like to get involved in a caring ministry, email or text Rev. Amy! There’s a place for everyone.

We are learning about money, setting goals, and financial literacy. A few girl scouts will be here at the Wednesday Night Dinner on February 6 if you are looking to buy some yummy cookies! The girls will have a campout February 22-24. The theme of the campout is Harry Potter. They continue to sing at Brookdale assisted living once a month. As part of the Build-a-thon that will be held at City Point UMC on February 16, they are collecting books and will help to build li-brary boxes for the apartment complexes on Booth Calloway.

McCurdy Ministries! Did you know that City Point UMC is an official spiritual partner with McCurdy Ministries in New Mexico? In the middle of a huge capital campaign, McCurdy is expanding its’ counseling program, continuing its’ before and after school programs, and adding an entire adult education component in conjunction with the University of Northern NM, including ESL classes, and other college courses. Eventually, there will be a non-profit hub, as well as community opportunities for finance, sustainability and nutrition re-sources. ALL your contributions help make this ministry possible! One way to help is by sending Box Tops for Education or Tyson Project A+ labels. These can be mailed in anytime to: McCurdy Ministries Community Center, 362-A S McCurdy Road, Espanola,

NM, 87532. As a church community, we’ve been asked to pray for McCurdy Ministries in spiritual partnership with them and I hope you will do so. If you’d like a prayer rock there are several more in Amy’s office! Please feel free to pick one up in return for the commitment to pray for McCurdy. We have been involved with McCurdy since 2004 when Jack Teddlie first began organizing VIM teams each summer! If you are interested in the 2019 summer mission trip to McCurdy contact Sharma Castillo. If you are looking for optional ways to contribute contact Rev. Amy Tate-Almy.
