Welcome to the Spotlight

Welcome to the the city School Spotlight. The Spotlight is your monthly guide to what’s going on across our school. You will find important dates and reminders and, more than that, we hope you’ll gain a clearer vision of The City School as a pre-k through twelve family. Whatever grade your student is in, they are part of a larger community of learners, and we want to share life together as one school.

the city AS clASSroom

From pre-k through 12th grade, we pursue partnerships with thinkers and learners in our city to fuel our students’ passion for learning.

Last month students from our Rittenhouse campus visited the Philadelphia Ballet and Opera Company Philadelphia. Drama, Choir, and International students

attended the ballet with Mrs. Taylor, who wanted our students to gain exposure to cultural experiences they may not have explored on their own. American History students visited the opera for a performance of Cold Mountain, a civil war tale adapted from an Academy Award-winning film. It challenged students to debate questions like whether the gruesomeness of war destroys our ability to love and what it is, exactly, that makes human life uniquely valuable.

The City School is a pre-k through 12th grade Christian school serving over 300 students on four campuses across Philadelphia. Our mission is to train students’ minds, disciple their hearts, and bring light to the city—one child at a time.

A select group of Rittenhouse and Walnut Street students were invited to attend the Black Engineer of the Year Awards. At this important event in the city, one of our middle schoolers, Calvin, was specially honored by a presenting General for his dedication to his life’s goal of attending Harvard. After the ceremony, students met influential leaders in military and industrial engineering and broke into small groups to discuss how their talents and passions can help them thrive in the field of engineering.
