Passover is the birthday of the Jewish people. It is the exodus that marked us

the first two evenings of Passover. No other people have this unique ritual. This ritual truly epitomizes the fundamental principles of Judaism, our creed, aspirations, beliefs and raison d'etre. Understand the Seder and understand the Jew. Experience the Seder and realize the essence of Judaism. The Seder begins by enjoining us to observe as a family an extended family at that, as the Bible instructs. Then we recall our humble roots, the painful and miraculous journey from slavery to freedom. It is remembered so that we will never take freedom for granted and we must con-stantly champion freedom for all oppressed of the world. The rituals, from the message of the Haggadah, to the Seder plate, to the food we eat remind us of this. Finally, the highlight of the Seder, the apex of the lesson is presented by a child asking questions. The presence of a child signals an investment in the future, noting the importance of including chil-dren in the practice of our heritage and reminding us of our need to question, challenge, and subse-quently, to understand the beauty of Judaism. Rabbi Ari Korenblit

SALE OF CHOMETZ

Since we are prohibited from eating as well as owning chometz over Passover - this includes dishes, foodstuffs, dishwashers, etc. - it is a tradition to authorize Rabbi Art Korenblit to act as your agent to sell the area that contains the chometz to a non-Jew for the duration of Passover.

Please tear off and fax, e-mail, mail or bring to the synagogue office before Thursday March 21, 2013. SALE OF CHOMETZ FORM

I hereby authorize Rabbi Ari Korenblit to act as my/our agent to sell all the chometz in my possession located at _______________________________________________________________________________ For the duration of the Passover holiday from Monday afternoon, March 25th through Tuesday April 2nd 8:15 p.m.

Presidents Message

Hello Everyone I hope that all of you are back to normal after the snow storm of February 8/9. It was a bit too much at one time, but we must consider ourselves lucky when you look at the amounts that Long Island and north of us re-ceived.

The snow did not stop Shirley Kleinberg and her Nominating Committee from doing their job in selecting your new slate of Center Officers and Board of Director members. The nominat-ing committee besides Shirley consisted of Jerry Friend, Bill Frisch, Rose Paul, Grace Rosenblum, Peter Levine and Larry Loeber. I must tell all of our members this has become a very difficult task. As our congregation gets smaller the choice of members for these positions becomes less and finding members willing to fill board member positions becomes more of a challenge. I commend all of the committee for a job well done.

I was happy to see people remembered our Purim Party on Saturday February 23rd. A great time was had by all. Loved the costumes, camaraderie and the Hamantashen. Rabbi Koren-blit set an all time record for speed reading the Megillah.

On Friday March 1st we will celebrate Shabbat Across America with services and dinner. This is a very special evening. This evening is dedicated to our beloved Faith Kleinfeld, who for many years chaired the Shabbat Dinners along with Shirley Kleinberg. Faith's family will be joining us this evening. So let's all pay our respect to Faith by attending. We expect a large attendance. Please call the Center Office as soon as possible to reserve your space.

Arrangements for the Dinner Dance on Sunday June 9, 2013 are progressing very well. The caterer and DJ have been retained, invitations are being finalized and will be mailed out shortly. Please plan on being at the is joyful event at our Center and honoring Martine Jaffe, a most worthy honoree.

Our trip to the Greek Synagogue in New York City has been rescheduled for Sunday May 19th. This should be a most interesting day so plan on joining us. Flyers will be coming out shortly.

Stay well and enjoy the remainder of Winter. Remember, Spring will be here soon.

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy Passover and wonderful Seders.

Malvin Gang, President

HOW TO ENJOY PASSOVER

PASSOVER PAST-TIMES, MATZOH MUNCHINGS AND SEDER STIRRINGS Why do we drink four cups of wine? Why do we eat matzoh? Why do we hide the afikomen? Why do we pour a cup for Elijah? Learn the story and the symbols of this beautiful holiday and some of the stirring melodies. Take a good look at the Haggadah to see what it really means. Join us on Saturday, March 23rd directly following services to learn how to conduct your own Seder with new meaning, with a complete understand-ing of the rituals performed and the foods we eat.

MEMORIAL PLAQUES

A Beautiful Way to Memorialize a Beloved Family Member

The cost for a bronze plaque in memory of a loved one is $350.00 for members. Every name on our Memorial Board is remembered in

perpetuity on the appropriate yahrzeit. For further information, please contact the office

HEBREW SCHOOL NEWS On Sunday, January 20th, the Hebrew School celebrated reading and singing

they had a spread of nuts, dates, olives, figs, raisins, bananas and oranges. Along with this there were different grape and apple juices to take the place of wine. None of this would have happened without the help of Barbara Klausner, the teachers, parents and our wonderful children. A great time was had by all. The children got a wonderful feeling of what the holiday truly means. Join us on March 1st for Shabbat Across America as we "kvell" over the children's participation in the service. We are looking forward to Sunday March 17th at 9:45am, when we will be having our Model Passover Seder in the Wenger Lounge.

WE NEED YOU!

Monday, Thursday and Sunday, and on occasion we are short on those days. Please! Please! Mark your calendars and join us once a week. Help us continue this very important tradition.

Please Join the CJC Sunday May 19th

For a Trip to Kehila Kedosha Janina

Synagogue*

Below Manhattan's skyscrapers, in the historic Lower East Side lies a hidden treasure that few know about...After the destruction of the second Temple, Jews were sent on a slave ship to Rome. A storm forced them to land in Greece where over the next 200 years they developed uniquely different ethnic and religious customs. Today, all these years later you can visit the only synagogue in the Western Hemisphere of this tiny obscure community. Our group will receive a private tour of the synagogue, museum and lecture along with a traditional Greek Kosher lunch. We may have time to explore the neighborhood after our tour before departing NYC. Call the office to reserve your seat NOW. We have a limited amount of spaces. Bus leaves the CJC at 9:30am and arrives back approximately 5:00pm. Cost $40 per person

*cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy Nov 4th

PLEASE LET OUR RABBI KNOW If you know that a member of our congregation is in the hospital or at home with a serious illness, please call the Center to let Rabbi Korenblit know. The only way we know that you or a family member is in the hospital is if we are informed. The hospital or nursing home does not notify the Center. Thank you for helping us keep in touch.

THE WERKSMAN LIBRARY

The Werksman Library is available to all Center members. We have a wonderful selection of fiction and nonfiction books available for your reading pleasure. The library is a source for many periodicals. One visit is certain to make you a regular.

The children in the Hebrew School use the library on a regular basis. It is a joy to witness their enthusiasm and interest in our books.
