Rachel was a true inspi-

ration to all, and we

couldn’t have done this

without you. Thank you

all for making this event

so successful.

Everyday someone is

being bullied and

fighting a battle you

don’t know about. On

April 20, 1999, two high

-school seniors attacked

teachers and students at

Columbine High School

in Littleton, Colorado.

The first person that was

killed in the shooting

was a girl named Rachel

Joy Scott.

Now, you’re proba-

bly wondering what this

has to do with Rachel’s

Challenge? Rachel's

Challenge entails a lot

of student empowering

programs and strategies

that help students fight bully-

ing, believing in yourself,

and creating a culture of

kindness and compassion.

This program is about

reaching out to students who

have been bullied, teased,

and are new to schools.

PTA, counseling, and stu-

dent council sponsored an

event on October 28th, to

promote “Rachel’s Chal-

lenge.” All grades went to an

assembly with a speaker who

is actually friends with the

Scott family. This assembly

was so emotional and inspir-

ing that people cried. Jewel

Bass said, ”I was crying so

hard! It’s so touching how

8th graders are gearing

up for the annual Washing-

ton D.C trip! All 8th graders

who plan on attending need

to pick up the 3 page form

in the front office. The ros-

ter is first come, first serve.

ONLY 160 STUDENTS

There’s only a slight

chance a fifth bus will

exist! The white form

needs to be turned into

the front office, and the

green form needs to be

mailed to the address

on it. The last day to

Now, in schools, it is hard to find a

teacher that is able to connect with

their students, push them to their full-

est, and still make them laugh in class.

Luckily, that is exactly what the CMS

Eighth grade has.

Ms. Hain is the newest TAG Social

Studies teacher at CMS. Ms. Hain has

been a teacher for thirteen years and

has taught multiple school levels, but

middle school has always been her per-

sonal favorite. Ms. Hain has a very in-

teresting teaching style that all of

her students ADORE. She likes to

make sure all of her lesson plans

work with all kinds of learning

types. She also uses sarcasm to get

their attention, which all students

love and few teachers actually do.

“I love to laugh with my students. It

is one of my favorite parts of being

a teacher” Ms. Hain told the CMS

Press during an exclusive inter-

view.

Along with her amazing

teaching style, Ms. Hain has

a style that is all her own.

Ms. Hain has some of the

coolest clothes you will ever

see a teacher have. “I have to

admit it, my younger sister

Katy is my style guru.” We

are so happy that we have a

teacher with such terrific

styles working here at CMS!

wards, she would play a defensive

formation. If it was a weak defen-

sive team, she would play an offen-

sive formation. I also asked her

what her biggest obstacle during the

season was. She said it was mainly

based off of shooting the goals dur-

ing games, and the girls playing

against the boys, since teams are

coed.

The last question we asked was

to Catherine Sandridge, team cap-

tain of the soccer team was what

she thought of Coach Stoffle. She

said, “Stoffle was a great coach, and

she knew what she was doing. She

Good job on an amazing ending of

the season for the CMS soccer team! We

decided to ask Ms. Stoffle about what she

thought of the season, and this was her

reply, “Very well, besides the fact that we

lost 20 minutes off our last game. It was

great!” We also got the team captain’s

thoughts, “We did well, we worked hard,

and it showed during the season. Last

year we won none, and this year we only

lost one, so I thought we definitely made

some improvements for the last year.”

Another question we asked Coach

Stoffle was what their game strategies

are. Ms. Stoffle said it depended on the

game. For example, if they had fast for-

also taught us lots of soccer techniques.

She always made us focused and

pumped for the game, and that was the

reason we did so well this season!”

Great job soccer team, and Congratula-

tions to Coach Stoffle!

I see everyone around me with

pretty decorations. How do I ac-

cessorize my locker without mak-

ing my parents spending too much

money? Trust me, I can under-

stand about seeing everyone’s

locker decorated. Near my locker,

almost all the girls have a chande-

lier or wallpaper in their locker.

Have you heard about the

Husky Hut? It’s a PTA (Parent-

Teacher Association) run school

store for students get decorations

for their locker. For the 8th grade

team with iPads, it’s a way to get a

stylus or get wipes. I have seen

many iPad users with the wipes

and stylus. On meet your teacher day,

they had the Husky Hut open. So my

mom and I peeked around. One of the

locker wallpapers was about close to

five dollars.

Students at school should be thank-

ful that our school allows us to buy and

raise funds in the school store. Howev-

er, in a big brand name store, they

might be a little expensive. I got my

locker shelf for just a little over 3 dol-

lars, but I think that’s because some

stuff is cheaper in Florida. I doubt your

parents will spend over 100 dollars on

decorations for your locker unless you

want brand names. One of the people

near my locker said, “I like decorating

lockers, so I try to buy stuff in the

Husky Hut or going to Target and look

around.” (See Hot Topics page 6 for

how to decorate a locker.) I recommend

before going to a big name store, try

going to the

Instead of fashion this month we will be

focusing on the big question of “How to

Decorate a Locker on a Person’s Birthday!”

It’s so simple, all you need is wrapping pa-

per, tape, and any additional things you

want to add. Now there are three simple

parts to this process.

The first one we are going to discuss is

wallpaper. It’s very crucial that you get a

wallpaper to match the person’s personality.

For example, if you were decorating a per-

son’s locker who liked cats, you wouldn’t

want to put dog wallpaper on their locker.

They probably would feel like you don’t

know them. You can get wallpaper at any

craft store or appliance store.

The second step to locker deco-

rating is NEATNESS! It is im-

portant that the locker is neat be-

cause you don’t want your locker

in the end to have a bunch of wall-

paper sticking up or other decora-

tions falling off. The secret to pre-

venting this is TAPE! It will stop

things from falling off and wallpa-

per sticking up. You can buy tape

pretty much anywhere. The good

thing about decorating the locker is

that people get to leave it up for a

whole week before you have to

take it down!

The third and final step is proba-

bly the best one out of them all

THE EXTRAS!!! Now some may

be asking what are the extras? They

are the little bits and pieces that

make decorating a locker worth

wild. They can include little cards

and even homemade things! It’s

always fun to add a surprise inside

for when they open it up!!!! Deco-

rating a friend’s locker makes for

such a special moment between you

and your friends. This wraps up

Hot Topics for this month.

body to audition for this, because

then when you are applying for a

college or even a job, you can put

this on your application. It really

helps even if it’s not something that

has anything to do with performing,

because it shows that you are social

and hardworking. Also, it’s obvi-

ously just plain FUN! I personally

am really excited, and I know all the

drama kids are too. What about you?

Auditions are on November 19 and 20,

and callbacks are on November 21 and

ma website under Musical 2014. So

what are you waiting for? Come on

CMS has started a new program this

year. CMS Superheroes are when your

teachers from your team pick you to be

the “Superhero” of that month. If

you're dying to be Superhero of the

month, then you’ll find this article very

helpful. Since I was the superhero of

the month for October, it’s really easy

to try to make yourself stand out to

your teachers!

First, you just have to try to be nice

to all your peers and especially teach-

ers! Your peers and friends play a big

role in your life, so you should espe-

cially act kind to them. While keeping

you friends and peers into considera-

tion, you should also keep you teachers

in mind too! When your teachers kind-

ly ask you to do something you should

follow their directions right away,

since they will be looking at how you

behave.

Next, just be you! If your teacher

sees you just being yourself, it will

help you so much to get to be a Super-

hero! Also, don’t forget to do all the

work your teacher gives you. If they

see you being on task, you will most

likely get to be a Superhero!
