and make them feel welcome,
please reach out to your stu-
dent’s advisor.
We are entering the final push.
Student’s final GPA’s will be cal-
culated at the end of the year
and we want students to work
very hard. Spring can be a dis-
tracting season with beautiful
weather and many activities, but
we really are holding ourselves
and the students accountable to
continue to work hard in class
each day. Please make sure you
are prioritizing attendance. Miss-
ing class at DSST is hard and is
hard to recover from. In these
final two months we want our
students here and working hard
to set up a strong foundation
with their GPA, habits and true
learning.
Mr. Cairns
Dear Cole Families,
Spring is an exciting time of year
in schools and I think the symbol-
ism of the season really captures
where we are at as a school.
Spring is all about growth. I think
most of the celebrations and
ways we think about growth this
time of year are connected to
the beauty of growth—and that
is really true. It is amazing and
inspiring to see the growth that
our students are making. I love
seeing them work hard and ac-
complish things. We have seen
amazing academic growth this
year and it is showing in our stu-
dents results. We have also seen
real social growth as students
mature from middle school stu-
dents to young adults.
I don’t think in all of our celebra-
tions and admiration of growth
this time of year, that we stop
enough to recognize how hard
growth is. It is great to walk down
the street and see the new flow-
ers blooming, but often for our
students this process is not only
beautiful, it is also really hard.
Managing social dynamics and
peer friendships, learning to study
and work hard and balancing
increasingly tough schedules with
homework, sports and academ-
ics are all hard things to learn.
This growth can be messy and
challenging. I hope you all will
take time to acknowledge the
growth and hard work our stu-
dents are making and to let them
know that while we celebrate it,
we also know how hard it can
be.
Related to growth, we have sev-
eral exciting things happening in
April. On April 21st we will be tak-
ing a school wide trip to CU to
learn about college, admissions
and CU’s programs. Girls soccer
season is underway and many of
our boys are playing baseball for
Manual. Our robotics and jour-
nalism club continue to work
hard and establish themselves
and we will have orientation for
new families for next year on April
22nd. If you as a family would like
to participate in orientation and
be around to meet new families
A BIG Thank You to Jessi-ca, Arnulfo Sr., and Arnulfo Jr. Martinez and their family for volun-teering at the Hippity Hop Easter Trot last weekend. We truly ap-preciate their stepping
up to help run this event as it is a fundraiser for our parent group and additionally helps demonstrate our schools involvement in the com-munity.
Our next STP Meeting will be April 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mr. Cairns will be joining us for a Q and A session during the first hour, so please plan on joining us.
