Since the fall of 1959, when the College first opened its doors, hundreds of thousands of Santa Cruz County residents have received an outstanding education at Cabrillo College. Faculty and staff are committed to providing excellent student-centered education and services. The College is governed by an experienced and supportive seven-member, District elected Board of Trustees and one Student Trustee. In recent years the campus has been wholly transformed, thanks to an $118.5 million bond measure approved by voters in 2004. The College has completed an impressive list of major facilities projects, including the LEED Platinum-certified, Solari Green Technology Center in Watsonville (2012); the new Health and Wellness Complex (2011); the Visual, Applied and Performing Arts (VAPA) Complex (2009); and the Samper Student Activities Center (2007), as well as an extensive remodeling of existing laboratories, classrooms, infrastructure, roads, walk- ways, and buildings. In fall 2013, with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and private funding, Cabrillo plans to open its new building and laboratory with dedicated space for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. Cabrillo students intending to transfer benefit from the Col- lege’s close proximity to four-year universities including the Uni- versity of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), California State University (CSU) Monterey Bay, and CSU San Jose. The college has 202 full-time contract faculty, 384 adjunct faculty, 218 classified staff, and 31 managers and administrators, all of whom are encouraged to participate in shared governance. More than 14,000 students enrolled for classes in spring 2013 and enrollment is predicted to be stable over the next decade. The col- lege’s annual budget is approximately $56 million. About the Community Santa Cruz County boasts a rich cultural life and numerous recre- ational opportunities. Residents enjoy a moderate Mediterranean climate amid redwood forests, sparkling beaches and rich farmland. Local cultural highlights include the internationally renowned Cabrillo Music Festival, the Santa Cruz County Symphony, and the critically acclaimed Cabrillo Stage, the College’s own summer theater company, which performs annually to sold-out audiences. Numer- ous museums and galleries showcase the work of visual artists in every medium who contribute to the cultural vitality of the area. Year-round outdoor recreational opportunities abound, and the area provides an ideal environment for sports of all types. A number of annual events celebrate the area’s ethnic and cultural diversity. services for a college that has been affected by severe budget reductions.

POSITIONThe Board of Trustees of the Cabrillo Community College District invites applications for the position of Superintendent/President. An interim president has recently been appointed and will not be a candidate for the position.

The Superintendent/President is the Chief Executive Officer of the District and reports to a seven member Board elected by the District as well as a student board member. Under the direction of the Board, the Superintendent/ President serves as the leader of the College and its primary spokesperson. The Superintendent/President directs and oversees all areas of the College.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS• Master’s degree from an accredited institution, earned

doctorate preferred.• A minimum of three years senior‐level administrative

experience, preferably at the community college level.• Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching and learning

processes at the college level.• Demonstrable record of community service and involvement.

DESIRED LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS Cabrillo College is seeking a person who –1. has a track record for increasing diversity in the student,

faculty, and staff population including differences in cultural, socio-economic, age, gender, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation, and disability status;

2. has a vision that encompasses the changing role of community colleges in 21ST century society and the ability to inspire others with that vision, work with district constituencies to establish priorities and allocate resources in order to accomplish these goals;

3. has a history of valuing student contributions including: student leadership development, student government, a student-friendly atmosphere, and a broad array of extracurricular activities that make for a rich, student-centered district;

13. is able to balance educational and fiscal goals; 14. has knowledge of and leadership in fiscal management,

strategic planning, human resources development, collective bargaining, curriculum and instruction, enrollment management, student services, and facilities management;

15. has successful fundraising experience with an educational institution;

16. has experience partnering with local school districts and local government, business, and civic organizations in support of educational initiatives;

17. demonstrates a willingness to embrace the cultural values of Cabrillo College as it continually evolves in a rapidly changing educational environment;
