She was inducted during the sorority’s 22nd Annual Delta Days in Washington D.C. Anchor and CNN special corre- spondent Soledad O’Brien paid a visit to the UNC Charlotte com- munity on Thursday November 10th to deliver her lecture titled “Diversity: On TV, Behind the Scenes, and in Our Lives.” The Office of Frater- nity and Soror- ity Life was proud to co-sponsor this event. Soledad O’Brien joined the CNN team in 2003 and is well known for her documenta- ries “Latino in America” and “Black in America.” As co- anchor for the CNN morning program, “American Morn- ing,” O’Brien reported trans- formational stories from around the globe. O’Brien reported from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, from London in 2005 after the terrorist attacks, and in Thai- land after the Tsunami in 2004. its FIRST

Blood

Drive

this

year on

Thursday,

November 3rd.

UNC Charlotte students, fac-

ulty, and staff came out to the

Lucas Room in Cone building

to donate blood and save lives.

The Office of Fraternity and

Sorority Life set a goal of

one hundred pints

for the blood

drive this

year and

we were

still able to

collect seventy-

five pints of

blood for the Carolina

Blood Center. This many

pints of blood will be used to

save 125 lives!

able to enjoy

hamburgers &

hot dogs, listen

to music pro-

vided by DJ Pepe,

drink mocktails,

and play games.

Charlotte Meck-

lenburg County Police Depart-

ment also partici-

pated in the carni-

val by conducting

mock field sobriety

tests and setting up

a drunk driving

simulation track for

students to try out.

This year’s annual Oct-sober

Fest Carnival was held on Fri-

day October 14th on the Uni-

versity’s Front Fields. The

Wellness Promotion Office

held this carnival in order to

provide a substance free envi-

ronment for UNC Charlotte’s

students to have fun during the

weeks approaching Halloween,

a typically high-risk time of

year. UNC Charlotte’s Greek

Charlotte’s Greek commu-

nity has welcomed several

new members to our

NPHC and DGC organiza-

tions. These new members

were formally introduced

to campus at new member

presentations held by the

chapters. While it’s not a

requirement to host these

The Office of Fraternity and Soror-

ity Life hosted this years first Presi-

dent’s Ball. NPHC, PHA, DGC, IFC,

and IC Chapter Presidents, Council

Presidents, and Executive Board

members were invited to a night of

dinner, dancing, and Greek Unity

on Friday November 18th. Stu-

dent’s were

bussed from

the UNCC

campus to

the Hilton

Hotel for a

formal dinner

party in the

University

Ballroom.

This event was a way for

the Office of Fraternity

and Sorority Life to rec-

ognize the hard work

each president and execu-

tive

board

mem-

ber has

put into

their

organization and

council for the

past year.

operating throughout the United

States and Canada. Delta Chi also

boasts just over 100,000 initiated

members. Expansion for IFC isn’t

slowing any time soon, either.

There are currently plans for Phi

Sigma Kappa, Sigma Chi, and Phi

Delta Theta to install new chapters

over the next two years.

Our IFC community is continuing

to grow! Beginning next spring,

UNC Charlotte will welcome it’s

next IFC expansion with Delta Chi

Fraternity. Staff from headquarters

will begin hitting the ground and

recruiting the next group of men

that will enter into the bonds of

Fraternity. Delta Chi was founded

in 1890 by eleven law students at

Cornell University. They currently

The Gamma Iota Chapter of

Lambda Theta Phi Latin Frater-

nity Inc. has been dedicated to

serving the community and

promoting their ideals at UNC

Charlotte. This fall semester

the chapter inducted six new

members. Congratulations to

Jose Benavente, Alejandro Gil,

Robert Valderrama, Anthony

Mora, Gerardo Mora and Jason

Oviedo. The chapter also will

have two new graduates this

December. Congratulations to

former president of the chap-

ter Ruben Pagan and former

DGC president, Adrian Rodri-

guez.

As the semester comes to a

close, the Diversified Greek

Council would like to thank

our Executive Board members

for such a great year of ser-

vice. We have seen our council

strengthen and grow thanks to

their hard work. We look

forward to the upcoming
