Mailed April 30, 2014
As the Easter season comes to a close and we anticipate Pentecost in the month of May let me share a reflection with you that speaks about both seasons:
In the Gospels we read about the disciples locking themselves in a room (upper room) following the death and resurrection of Jesus. They were afraid. John explained They were locked in their room “for fear of the Jews” (John 20:19). Fear had made them prisoners.
But now, suddenly, Jesus came. He simply appeared in their midst, and said, “Peace be with you.” (John 20:19).
If you have ever been afraid, lost, confused, Jesus comes to us, as he came to the disci-ples, and says very quietly. “Peace be with you” –as though to say “It’s okay”
Then Jesus said, “As the father has sent me, so I send you (John 20:21). John tells us that Jesus breathed on them and said, ”Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). Jesus in-spired them (literally, “breathed”), reviving them and boosting their spirits. Jesus gave them a “second wind” and sent them out to be his disciples
With this second wind, which Jesus named the Holy Spirit, the disciples are given power to act in spite of their fears. With new courage, they unlocked their doors, went out, and preached of Christ to the whole world. The worldwide community of Christians today stands as evidence of the fact that they did this successfully.
This “second wind” is also given to us by our Lord as a wonderful gift. Paul talked
about it when he said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens
me” (Philippians 4:13). The history of Christianity is filled with the stories of people
who, in the power of Christ, overcame their fears, opened their locked doors and went
out into the world to be witnesses.

PRAYER SHAWL
I want to thank all who have been busy making shawls and blankets. We have made good use of them. To those who com-mitted to making red shawls for confirmation time is getting close for Pentecost. You may bring them to the church office or be in touch with me and I will pick them up. Thanks for the commitment to this ministry.
As we head into summer we are in good shape for blankets but shawls are getting low so of you can find a cool place please think about beginning a shawl.
When we began this ministry, Women of the ELCA purchased a prayer shawl book. This had patterns and other infor-mation. Someone borrowed it, I can’t remember who, so, if you have it could you please return it to church. Thanks very much it is a purple book with WELCA inside the front cover. You can put it on the Women of the ELCA table which is right below the banner. Thanks.
If you or someone you know would like a shawl let me or church office know.

attending the annual Thrivent Financial picnic/baseball game at Frontier
Stadium with their families. This has always been a fun event for a great
price, see the Narthex table for signing up for this June 5th event.

BIBLE STUDY
Will end
Wednesday, June 10
We, the members of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, as baptized fol-lowers of Jesus Christ will foster a living, expressive relationship with our Lord and our neighbors.
We will do this in a way that seeks to serve all segments of our congrega-tion and community by:
♦ Providing a welcoming environment for youth and young adults.
♦ Strengthening the family unit.
♦ Involving the elderly and recognizing their special needs.
♦ Making Christ visible through worship.

MISSION STATEMENT
MAY 10
to be held June 14 beginning at 11:30 AM. The morning worship will be one service at 10:00 AM. During the worship we will recog-nize graduating seniors, Sunday school staff, Sunday school stu-
dents, youth and the various youth groups in the congrega-tion. It is a day to celebrate our commitment to youth min-istry and our young people as well as enjoy a picnic (yes deep fried turkey is on the menu). Make sure to mark your calen-dars for one service at 10:00 AM and the picnic to follow.
We rejoice at the increasing
number of young people in our
congregation. This has also
provide a need to be fulfilled.
Increasingly we need to develop
a Nursery during our worship
services. We are looking for
mothers, grand parents or others
to organize nursery care for the 9:30 and 11:15 worship ser-
vices. We would especially want to get one group for the
10:00 worship on May 31 (Confirmation Sunday). If you can
help please sign up on the tan response sheet or speak to Pas-
tor. Our hope is to have a schedule in place by September.

Graduation for the four-year-old children in Our Saviour Pre-school is Friday, May 29 at 7:00 PM in the church. We anticipate a full sanctuary as parents, grandparents, friends and relatives gather for this special program.
After the program there will be a cookie and punch reception in the narthex. Please join us.
PRESCHOOL GRADUATION
We had a busy April. We reviewed the Easter story in Jesus time and heard about creation, Noah’s ark, and other Old Testa-ment Bible stories. We also learned about our 5 senses and made little books on seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touch-ing. This month we also did some planting. We finished our letter sounds and now we are reviewing the sounds and learn-ing how to write our letters and numbers.
The month of May will be just as exciting as April. We are going to continue hearing the Bible stories from the Old Testa-
ment in our Jesus time. On May 1, we are going to celebrate May Day with a parade and a special project. We also invited
Mr. Austin to come to our Preschool and show us some of his baby animals. Mr. Austin always brings us some cute little
farm animals to see. We are looking forward to our Mother’s Day party on Friday, May 8 and our Father’s Day party on Fri-
day, May 15. On May 27, we will have a special lunch for the Preschoolers in our classroom. The Preschool class will have
their Graduation in Church and a reception following the ceremony on Friday Evening, May 29. What a great year this has
been for all of us. God Bless everyone! Have a wonderful and safe summer.

To the congregation of The Church Of Our Saviour: I want to thank you for hiring me as the Preschool teacher for the last 3 years. It has been a wonderful experience for me and you have all been very supportive of the Preschool. I have worked with Preschool and Kindergarten children for the last 40 years and I feel that it is time for me to retire and enjoy the next phase of my life with my husband. I wish you all the best and God Bless You Always!

The First Communion Class prepares youth of the congregation to begin receiving Holy Commun-ion. The classes study passages in Scripture that help build an understanding of what Holy Com-munion is. There are activities that help the youth grow in appreciation for the gifts God gives in Holy Communion. And, time is devoted to the “how-to” of receiving Holy Communion. This years first communion candidates are Ethan Oliver, Morgan Reese, Grace Reese, Brayden Spencer, Chloe Evans and Sydney Emerson .
WOMEN OF ELCA
Our April meeting was a dinner out at Rick's Prime Rib House in Gates. Thirteen women attended and the food, as well as the fellowship, was enjoyed by all.
Our next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 12 at 6: 30 pm. We are fortunate to have Judy DeRooy, Gates His-torian, as our guest speaker. Everyone, including husbands, are invited to attend this very special and interesting meeting. A special thank you to AnnMarie MacBride for arranging for our guest speaker. If interested in attending, please sign-up on the sheet on the table in the Narthex so that we make sure that we have enough refreshments for all!
On Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30 pm, we will hold our annual end of the year potluck dinner at the home of Ann Seppa. It is really hard to believe that this will be our last meeting before we adjourn for the summer. If you would like to attend this meeting, a sign-up sheet will be on the table in the Narthex.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Mother's Day!

EQUAL EXCHANGE COFFEE, TEA AND CHOCOLATE SALES
Equal Exchange Products: Orders will be taken for the Equal Exchange products between services on Sunday, May 17. In addition to the numerous coffee and tea flavors and the hot cocoa and baking cocoa, there are a number of new products available. There are a number of nuts and dried fruits available, as well as snacks and spreads and syrups. Remember that we do need to order in case lots, with the exception of syrups which are or-dered by the bottle. Individuals can join together to order a case.
The members of Our Saviour extend Christian love and sympa-thy to the family of Richard Mitchell and Jean Cumming.
Dick was a long time member of Our Saviour and he died on March 21, 2015. His funeral service was held at Our Saviour on Thursday, March 26.
Jean was also a long time member of Our Saviour and she died on March 23, 2015. The family requests no cards or calls, just please keep the family in your prayers.
Rest eternal grant them, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon them.
Our heartfelt thank you to our church family for all the prayers, support and caring extended to Dick and I throughout his long illness and final
journey. It is the prayers and support and Dick’s unwavering strength and peace that will help me through the days ahead. God bless
you all. Peace, Helga and Family.

Spring has sprung! We have had some very nice days so far and I am much appreciative that the cold and snow have stopped. The snow shovels and salt have been put away for another year and now we are busy preparing for the sum-mer season. Our mowing equipment is getting its preseason maintenance and we are looking for a fourth person to help with the lawn mowing on a rotating schedule. If you could help us by mowing the lawn once every four weeks then contact me to get on the list. We have a ZTR (zero turn mower) and it makes mowing the lawn more of a fun experience than a chore. It takes a couple of hours to mow the lawn and can be done evenings or weekends depend-ing on your schedule. We had to replace one of the parking lot lights and we took the opportunity to try a LED light; they cost less to run (42W vs 100W) and they last a long time, meaning we do not have to buy expensive replacement bulbs every year or two. The project brought up the old joke of "how many Trustees does it take to change a light bulb?". Why? The light is 20' up in the air and the only way to reach it is with a power lift, enter Skip Kipybida who provided the lift saving us the usual Home Depot rental fee, I borrowed a vehicle to tow the lift to the church, Ed Jarvis manned the lift to actually do the work in the sky and Rick Chapin suggested the fixture we used and took a picture of ED up in the air lest anyone doubt. Have you noticed our new bright green Waste Management dumpster in the parking lot? Our contract was due for renewal and we took the opportunity to downsize the bucket size to reduce cost. Reduced programs at the church led to the reduced size bucket being more than adequate and saves us money in the monthly fee. The remaining old freezer from the kitchen is gone. We were able to restore enough function to it so that it quali-fied for a RG&E energy rebate. They picked it up and the church will receive a check for $50. Jim Flick - Trustees Chairperson
