Principal’s Note Dear Families, Tonight is opening night for our fall musical, Beauty and the Beast. Both Friday and Saturday nights’ shows are sold out, so if you did not purchase tickets ahead of time, you will not be able to attend. I am looking forward to the performance as our fine arts students are some of the most talented kids in CMS!! Next week is a two-day week as we all prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will have classes as usual both Monday and Tuesday. If you are planning to travel either of those days, please make sure you contact the teachers to ensure your child obtains all of his/her assignments. I wish everyone a restful and relaxing holiday with family and friends. Parents, if you want to purchase a yearbook for your child, please make sure you scroll through this issue of the Courier as it contains details regarding online purchase. The school can only order a small number of yearbooks beyond the pre-purchase numbers, so make sure you order online today! Have a great weekend, Jamie Brooks

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS / Day of the Dead is celebrated on Nov. 2, following ALL SAINT’S DAY (Día de los Santos). DIA DE LOS MUERTOS is celebrated in Mexico and some countries of Central and South America. Eighth graders at CHMS participated in DIA DE LOS MUERTOS activities by
• tasting PAN DE MUERTO (Bread of the Dead – a delicious sweet bread made especially during this time of year)
• making CALAVERAS DE AZUCAR – sugar skulls (a popular and traditional sweet treat) • reflecting on and writing about how they honor people close to them who have died
Here’s some interesting DIA DE LOS MUERTOS trivia, compliments of Inside-Mexico.com.
El Dia de los Muertos is not the Mexican version of Halloween. Mexicans have celebrated the Day of the Dead since the year 1800 B.C.
It is not scary or morbid. There are no pictures or images of dead people, ghosts, witches, or the devil.
It doesn’t honor death, but instead our beloved dead relatives. We welcome the opportunity to reflect upon our lives, our heritage, our ancestors and the meaning and purpose of our own existence.
Beautifully decorated altars or ofrendas are not for worshiping but for offering our love and remembering our departed family members.
It is not a sad ritual. It’s a day of happiness because we will be remembering our loved ones. Although when in the graveyard, people assume an introspective attitude.
The Day of the Dead is about Love not Fear.
It is not a “strange” ritual. It is very similar to going to a grave and leaving flowers or stuffed animals, or lighting a candle to remember someone you love who has died.

instructional times are not interrupted.
Students will NOT be called to the front office to pick up items at any other time.
Carpool Reminders

Community House Road. Please turn cars off while in the carpool line.
Parents, please read:
CMS has an automated phone messaging system that will call when a student has an unexcused absence
or an unexcused tardy. Some examples of unexcused absences are: out of town, vacation, personal, etc. Please be sure to notify the school either by phone or e-mail if your
child is absent. If your student has a medical appointment, please provide
a note from the medical provider.
Lunch Policy
Parents are allowed to bring a lunch meal for their student, but they can’t bring meals for other students. This aligns with the cafeteria policy and federal regulations. However, it must be pre-planned before the school day begins. The student is then responsible for going to the office to get the lunch at the appropriate time.
