Last spring the Heritage Community Association came out with these signs in many different languages that said, "I am glad we are neighbours!" Well, it rings true for me. I am glad we are neighbours and we have become a wonderful mix of ethnic backgrounds, cultures and circumstances here in the Coronation Park area. My name is Darrell Reine and I am the new chairperson of the association. First, I want to say, "Many Thanks" to the existing board which is small and has carried a great deal on their shoulders. I have lived in Coronation Park twice, during my growing up years, and then I moved back here 24 years ago, with my family. We love the neighbourhood and I want to preserve our community. This fall, the City invited the community to a consultation as to what could possibly happen with the PAR 3 golf course on the southwest corner of the community. I believe there are many people with an interest in this and we need to work on how we can bring a common voice to this con- sultation. I believe the view of the residents was loud and clear that we do not want the space to be turned into housing. We have plenty. I think the key message was to keep it a green space or a space that could have a variety of activities for all age levels. The City has committed to inviting the community into another process of developing a site plan. This will take place in the very near future. My hope is that many, many folks will attend. When I moved back into CP, there was a great sense of pride in ownership. Lawns were cut, weeds were kept to a minimum and back then we had good streets and sidewalks that you could actually walk on without worrying about tripping over shifted cement. Our area has slipped a bit. I hope we can revitalize our community so it stands out beyond other communities in this city, that housing prices remain higher so that people will want to move here and that there will be a sense of pride in belonging to this community! You will notice in this newsletter that all kinds of programs are being offered. I know there are many things that tug on our time, resources and energy but my hope is that none of these programs have to be cancelled. When this happens it is disappointing for those who have registered, and it means the instructors who have put this in their schedule are then looking for other places to fill their time. As we go into the new year, my wish for each of you is to enjoy your community, meet your neighbours and share in your stories of life! - Darrell

Hello Neighbours!

I believe there are many people with an interest in this and we need to work on how we can bring a common voice to this con-sultation. I believe the view of the residents was loud and clear that we do not want the space to be turned into housing. We have plenty. I think the key message was to keep it a green space or a space that could have a variety of activities for all age

levels.

- Darrell

Senior Ceramics—

Some of the best moments of the craft sale actually happen behind the scenes; getting to know the participants who share their talents with the community. Judith Kehler is not just an author, but an author that lives right in the neighbourhood. She joined our ALL Together EAL after-school program twice in the fall, sharing some of her stories that were great connectors to the exploration of animals and the seasons that we were working on. With her youngest grandchildren living out of Regina, she started to write stories to send to them. She has now written 14 books including a novelette chronicling her grandmother’s immigration to Canada to marry her grandfather.

This year we also had the pleasure of meeting a new non-profit. We hope that they are back next year and that they’ll be able to share some songs of the season for our shoppers’ enjoyment. Prairie Gold Chorus is a dynamic, fun-loving group of women dedicated to musical excellence through 4 part a cappella harmony. If singing is a passion, why not look this group up. Joining them might just strike a chord with you (pun intended!).

These are just a couple of examples of the participants that make our event so great. Of course there are the Girl Guide volunteers, O’Neill School community, and all of you that create a true community celebration in and of the Craft Sale every year! With 111 tables to shop from in 2017, it was certainly a success. See you again in 2018.

Sharon Wiest hosts our ceramics program at the Seniors’ Centre on Winnipeg Street on Thursdays from 12:30—3:30. Cost is ONLY $2 per session that you attend and includes a variety of green ware. The social atmosphere will add to the experience of getting involved! You are sure to say, “this program gets a big thumbs up!” Registration: call 306.543.3666
