High School Sullivan West High School (SWHS) is located in the Village of Lake Huntington, NY. This state-of-the-art educational complex offers students the latest in communication technologies, a 600-seat auditorium, modern science labs and superior athletic facilities. SWHS is proud to be one of the few schools in the Hudson Valley to receive the honor of the Silver Medal from the US News & World Report for 2013 and 2017. This recognition helped to place SWHS in the top 12% of all high schools in New York State. The facility currently houses approximately 500 students in grades 7-12. The Sullivan West Graduate Profile, as described in the District’s Strategic Plan, commits the District to preparing young adults who are: Curricular Offerings SWHS offers a comprehensive program with sequential courses available in all core subject areas as well as art, music, technology and business. Twenty-two credits of coursework and appropriate New York State test completion are required for graduation; both New York State Advanced Regents and Regents Diplomas are available. Advance Placement (AP) courses include World History, United States History, English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, and Biology. College courses offered by four year institutions include: Rochester Institute of Technology courses in Design & Drawing for Production, Digital Electronics, Principles of Engineering, and Introduction to Computer Science; and, Syracuse University Project Advance courses in Chemistry and Forensics. The local community college, SUNY Sullivan CC, offers the following courses: English Composition I, Fundamentals of Speech, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Introduction to Calculus, Introduction to Renewable Energy and Business Math. The SWHS graduation rate saw the largest increase among all schools in the Hudson Valley from 2016-17, rising to 90 percent -- tops in Sullivan County among schools that have more than 25 students in the senior class. Eighty percent of Sullivan West’s graduates go on to attend outstanding colleges and universities in and out of state. A variety of interscholastic sports as well as after-school clubs and activities are offered. Highlights include championship football, track and baseball teams, along with boys’ and girls’ golf, soccer and basketball teams. Scholar-athlete teams have been recognized in boys’ and girls’ soccer and cross-country. SWHS students are represented at All-State and All-County music festivals and participate in Math Club, Journal- writing Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and socially responsible clubs such as SAGA and SADD. The District, which encompasses approximately 245 square miles, is about one hour east of Binghamton and two hours northwest of New York City. Route 17 (I-86), a major east-west highway, runs along the center of Sullivan County, slightly north of our District’s boundary, while the Delaware River and Pennsylvania border the District in the south. The area is known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Water sports, especially fishing, canoeing, boating and kayaking, attract visitors from April- November. Golfers from throughout the northeast visit Sullivan County to play a number of excellent courses. Fall and winter attractions include hunting, snowmobiling and skiing. Nestled among the beauty of the Catskill Mountains, Resorts World Catskills Casino opened in February 2018, offering unmatched experience in excitement, entertainment and luxury. The Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center, which is on the grounds of the original 1969 Woodstock Music Festival, is located in Sullivan County. During the summer, it plays host to a number of nationally known acts from a variety of genres including rock, jazz, symphony, country and bluegrass. The area, which has been attracting an increasing number of artists and performers, supports a number of unique museums, galleries, theatre companies, performing arts venues, libraries, as well as antique and specialty shops. Employment is comprised of tourism, agriculture, utilities, education, health and human services. The Board of Education of the Sullivan West Central School District is seeking a highly qualified educational leader to become its next Superintendent of Schools. The search process will be conducted over the next three months with the successful candidate to begin employment on/about August 1, 2018.

Dr. Thomas Ramming and Dr. Teresa Lawrence, search consultants for the Western New York Educational Service Council at the University of Buffalo, will assist the Sullivan West Board of Education in the recruitment and selection process. The consultants will carry out the tasks of publishing the vacancy, accepting/screening applications and recommending selected candidates to the Board of Education for further consideration. Candidates are asked to respond to the search consultants, avoiding direct contact with members of the Board of Education concerning the vacancy.

First interviews will be scheduled for the beginning of June. Selected candidates will be invited back for a day long visit to the District in mid-June. Activities for this day will include tours of the schools and community, opportunity to meet the staff, dinner with the Board of Education and final interviews.
