FIRE ENGINEERING

1. Pre-Planning for Fire SafetyBefore submitting a design application to the PlanningAuthority it is wise to have your design proposal reviewedin relation to fire compliance.

Benefits - can save time & money on planning process andclient will have a Fire Safety Strategy in place in advance ofapplying for a Fire Safety Certificate.

2. Fire Safety Certificate Applications (FSCA)Application to the Local Authority for Fire Certification inrelation to the proposed project. PRO-FIRE will prepare firedrawings, specification and compliance report, and willsubmit to the Local Authority and follow through to decision.

3. Fire Safety Engineering DesignA fire safety engineering design approach can provide amore fundamental solution than traditional prescriptiveapproaches to fire safety. It may be the only viable meansof achieving a satisfactory standard of fire safety in somelarge and complex buildings.

4. Smoke & Fire ModellingFire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) is a Computational FluidDynamics (CFD) model of fire-driven fluid flow. It is usedto demonstrate the accuracy of a Fire Safety EngineeringDesign.

5. Pre-Incident Fire PlanningEssential to successful fire operations in large, high risk andcomplex buildings and is now a mandatory requirement forLocal Fire Authorities (who hold this information on the FireBrigade Appliances).

SERVICES

CERTIFICATION

1. Certificate of ComplianceNecessary at completion stage of all projects; where anEngineer is required to give certification that all aspects ofthe built structure comply with the granted Fire SafetyCertificate, specification, compliance report and the relevantBuilding Regulations. It is Best Practise to have a specialisedFire Safety Engineer carry out this Certification.

2. Licensing CertificationUnder the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2008, as part of the DanceLicense and Exemptions Applications at the annual licensingcourt a Fire Safety Engineermust provide confirmation thatthe building complies with the current Building Regulations(Part B Fire) or the relevant granted Fire Safety Certificate.When doing this PRO-FIRE can pre-empt, identify andaddress any issues likely to be raised by the Fire Officer inadvance of the Licensing Court.

3. Disability Access Certification (DAC)A DAC will certify compliance at design stage with therequirements of Technical Guidance Document M 2000 ofthe Second Schedule to the Building Regulations 1997 to2008. A Disability Access Cert is mandatory from 01/01/2010,under the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2009.

4. Building Energy Rating (BER) CertificationAs part of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, aBER Certificate (which is effectively an energy label) will berequired at the point of completion, sale or rental of a building.The BER Cert will be accompanied by an Advisory Reportsetting out recommendations for cost-effective improvementsto the energy performance of the building.

5. Fire Safety AuditsPRO-FIRE’s Fire Safety Audit will outline the main areas ofnon-compliance and will advise on what action is required toensure compliance with the Fire Regulations / Best Practice,therefore protecting occupants of the building and theoperating business itself. We endeavour to provide the mostcost effective and least intrusive solutions to our client’s.

6. Fire Risk AssessmentsPRO-FIRE’s Fire Risk Assessment will look at your firehazards, the risks of those hazards, the people at risk andthe type of risk. Then outline measures for managing the riskeffectively.

3. Fire Safety TrainingPRO-FIRE can provide all training requirements, tailoringcourses to meet the needs of individual clients and caninclude all aspects of Health & Safety Training.

4. Site InspectionsNecessary for Certificate of Compliance and providesclients with the security of knowing work is proceeding inaccordance with the granted Fire Safety Certificate andthe relevant Building Regulations.

5. Design Team MeetingsThere are many benefits to engaging a Fire Engineer in thedesign process and having them present at regular DesignTeam Meetings. The smallest of design changes can havemajor Fire Safety & cost implications.

6. Fire Officer MeetingsEngaging with a Fire Officer at all stages of a project canspeed up the process, save money on the overall projectand can lead to more sustainable solutions.
