Imagine someone trying to pitch Peanuts today. A mild-mannered cartoonist somehow makes his way
into the office of a major media conglomerate: lords of industry in search of the next billion-dollar enter-tainment and merchandising mother lode of an intel-lectual property. “What’s it about?” asks one of the wall of executives who refuse to make eye contact.
“Well, there’s this kid,” the cartoonist replies. “He’s CONSTANTLY depressed; in fact, he fre-quently seeks psychiatric help from another kid. She’s really cruel to him, though. Actually all the kids are. His best friend is into philosophy and suffers from a crippling addiction to holding his blanket — should I keep going?”
The sound of an irritated Senior VP crumpling
his plastic water bottle fills the air. “What’s, ah, what’s the first strip about?” he asks, not bothering to mask the seething rage he feels at having his time wasted.
“Oh it’s great! Sweet Charlie Brown is skipping down the street, not a care in the world, and the other kids are nice to his face and then once he’s out of sight, one says to another, ‘How I hate him.’”
The silence that follows can only mean one thing — not only will Peanuts never see the light of day, whoever arranged this meeting has already been fired.
As the cartoonist is shown the door, he takes one last shot: “Did I mention he has a lovable dog?”
“Oh? A cute animal?” they ask as they pull him

“You're a dog but you walk on two legs and dance like Ed Grimley, what gives?”
“How do you cope with the blanketless nightmare you call a life?”
The Head Beagle knows a guy who can get them fresh.
Poor sequel… I mean redo… I mean…
“What kind of a freak dog does THAT?”
“Actually, she said ‘Mwah wah mwahh’ but I took it as a ‘No.’”
Snoopy replies by invoking his favorite Costa-Gavras movie.
