Rules for Microscope Use
1. Always lift by the arm and base.
2. Coarse Adjustment Knob is only to be used with the 40X (red) objective lens.
3. Change objective lenses using revolving nosepiece instead of other objective lenses.
4. Never turn to 1000X (black and white) unless there is oil on the slide.
5. Never touch the objective lenses.
6. Start and finish at 40X and with the stage all the way down.
7. Face the microscope so the arm is towards you when looking at a specimen.

Organelle Functions
Make a table with the following headings as shown below.
Complete the table with the organelles listed using your textbook. There are a couple that are not in your textbook. Look these up online.
1. cell membrane 2. cell wall 3. chloroplast 4. chromatin 5. cytoplasm 6. cytoskeleton 7. DNA 8. rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) 9. smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER)10. Golgi body 11. lysosome 12. mitochondrion 13. nuclear membrane14. nucleolus 15. ribosome 16. vacuole 17. vesicle

3. Identify the organelle in each description below:
i) found only in plant cells, they use energy from the sun to make glucose and release oxygen
ii) they produce proteins and may or may not be attached to the endoplasmic reticulum
iii) a tough, rigid structure outside of the cell membrane, made of cellulose (fiber) and is not in animals
iv) they harvest energy from glucose to fuel cell activities
v) a plant cell has a large one, animal cells have smaller ones, and they contain water and other materials
vi) this separates the inside and outside of the cell
vii) this sorts and packages proteins and other materials for transport out of the cell
viii) small membrane covered sacs that the cell uses to transport or store materials inside the cell and can be used to secrete materials out of the cell or draw materials into the cell
