A staple of 1950s and 1960s teen counter culture, the hot rod has never truly lost its allure.

A lot of hard work and pride goes into restoring the gentle curves of classic cars and trucks, and fine-tuning these low rider “whips”— and the finished product will amaze people at the Canadian International AutoShow.

Hot Rods & Choppers, featuring Kreater, will showcase a diverse array of restored and revved up classics. George Tchor, owner of Kreater, will be bringing along a 1963 Lincoln feature car as well as 10

custom built motorcycles — each piece built by hand — that range

in value from $150,000 to $300,000. Over the course of the 10 days of the AutoShow, Kreater will be staging a custom bike build, with a plan to rev it up on the final day of the show.

Schooled as a mechanical engineer and with a background as a diesel mechanic, George found his true calling building motorcycles.

“It’s an addiction,” he says. “I have more fun building than I do riding. I love it.”

Slated to be among the hot rods on display on the 700 level of the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre are a 1954 Ford F-100 (pictured at left), a 1925 Ford Model T Roadster Pickup hot rod, a 1952 Chevy Coupe, a 1929 Ford Tudor Hot Rod Project car, a 1930 Ford A Roadster Hot Rod and a

1955 Chevy Gasser.

Many of the hot rods have been painstakingly built at Binbrook Speed & Custom by Keith MacIntyre, who takes an old school, hands on approach to each project.

“This is the way these cars would have been chopped, lowered and modified back in the ’50s,” says Keith. “I’m not reinventing the wheel here, but I’m also not building something that comes out of a box. Every car is unique, every project is different.”

The exhibit will also feature one of the finalists in our AutoShow Your Auto Contest and will have live music on the final Saturday night of the AutoShow.

The Ontario government and the Automobile Parts Manufacturers Association have agreed on a new initiative for the 2016 Canadian International AutoShow to showcase some of the leading organizations supplying products and technology to the Connected and Autonomous vehicle industry. As technology transforms one of Canada’s most important industries, Ontario is positioning itself at the forefront of this new frontier. For more than a century, cars have been racing 500 miles around the 2.5-mile oval track known as the “Brickyard,” an annual event that has become so ingrained with motorsports that the host city has lent its own nickname to the open-wheel cars—and race series—that strive to be first at the checkered flag.

The 2016 Indy 500, slated for Sunday, May 29th, will be the 100th running of the world’s most famous race, and to help celebrate the event the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum is bringing a few of the classics from its collection to the Canadian International AutoShow.

This feature exhibit is a unique collection showcasing some of the most iconic vehicles that have traversed the oval in Indianapolis since the first Indy 500 was staged in 1911 (the race was suspended during the First and Second World Wars) as well as highlighting the many Canadians who have pursued racing glory in this fabled contest — including the 1992 Lola driven by Canadian Scott Goodyear when he finished second to Al Unser Jr. by .0043 of a second, the closest Indy race in history.

MAKE AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION WITH CONSUMERSConsumers couldn’t care less about a list of features; they want to be made to feel something. Make their heart race, make them excited to be first to know, make them proud to be featured in your content —whatever it is, appeal to their emotional selves, not their rational selves. If we can remember what motivates people and how we tap into their emotions, we can unlock one of the great secrets of the successful modern marketer.

BE AUTHENTICYes, we’ll always want to play with the latest gadget or experiment on the hottest new communications platform. But let’s not forget what unites us: the power of authenticity, which gives us the potential to earn more attention and in turn begets trust. Focus on that first and foremost, and it won’t matter what technological advances are around the corner.

DO YOUR HOMEWORKWhen you’re developing a strategy — whether it’s a business strategy, marketing strategy, or communications strategy — the tried and true SWOT analysis is still a valuable tool. Have you considered every angle of how you plan your strategy? Are their gaping holes that your competition can take advantage of? Concentrating on the more difficult and negative aspects of SWOT analysis can help you see these before your competition does.

ART & THE AUTOMOBILEFor almost as long as cars have been on the planet, automobile manufacturers and dealers have been trying to sell them.

In the early days of the vehicle, the diversity of advertising matched the range of cars that were being developed. From the raw art of the early beginnings to the brass, nickel and art deco periods to the flamboyant ’50s and ’60s, there has been a dynamic relationship between cars and advertising, which is explored in detail at Art & the Automobile at the 2016 Canadian International AutoShow.

Presented again by the Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the exhibit traces that parallel evolution of car design and the ads that promoted them – from the typeset poster style of the early 1900s through spectacular hand-drawn renderings to moody photographic images.

They begin with a specially-designed 1904 Oldsmobile and extend through such landmark cars as the first American front-wheel-drive 1929 Cord L-29, the aerodynamic pioneering 1934 Chrysler Airflow, the style-setting 1953 Studebaker coupe and the Raymond Loewy-designed 1963 Studebaker Avanti.

Included in the group are two cars that launched companies — a 1908 Mclaughlin-

Buick, from which General Motors of Canada ultimately developed, and a 1925 Chrysler that was the first product of the Chrysler string of companies that survives today as FCA. Other notable models include a 1915 Cadillac—the first V-8—a luxurious 1956 Lincoln Premiere and a Canadian-exclusive 1958 Pontiac Parisienne.

Rarest of them all is the American LeBaron-bodied Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A SS, one of only two constructed, that took Best in Show honours at the 2013 Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Located on the 700 level of the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the 2016 Art & the Automobile installation is a collection of fine cars and artistic advertising that’s not to be missed.

ABOUT COBBLE BEACHThe Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an annual event held against the stunning natural background on the shores of Georgian Bay, following in the tradition of Concours d’Elegance that once paraded horse-drawn carriages through the parks of 17th-century Paris. Participating cars are only permitted to show every four years, so the Concours has an entirely new stable of prestigious cars to wow regular visitors each year. The Cobble Beach community in Ontario is a perfect fit for the lifestyle these vehicles evoke, with its award-winning golf course and lush landscapes.

The Castrol name has been synonymous with premium quality, high performance and leading edge technology in motor oils and automotive lubricants since 1899. Throughout its history Castrol has been committed to championship motorsport around the world. On July 1, 2015 Wakefield Canada Inc. celebrated its tenth anniversary as exclusive Canadian distributor and marketer of Castrol lubricants Castrol EDGE, Castrol’s best synthetic oil is three times stronger against viscosity breakdown than the leading synthetic and leading conventional oils. The unique titanium technology physically changes the way oil behaves under extreme pressures doubling its film strength and preventing oil from breaking down and reducing friction to maximize engine performance. Whether it is Castrol’s Edge or Castrol’s trusted GTX, Canadians choose Castrol more than any other oil.
