Department of Administration
• Recruiting and ensure that trainees are fit for the prison staff profession
• Provide information, support and service to aspirants, course participants and visitors to the Academy
• Develop and manage the buildings and equipment that promote health, safety and well being of staff and users of the campus
• The department consists of 6 consultants and 5 senior officers

Prison Education: Required Qualifications
• Higher Education • Applicants who are 25 years or older and do not
have admission requirements can be assessed on the basis of qualifications in addition to the subjects Norwegian, English and Science
• Shows necessary maturity and personal fitness for the service
• 20 years or older • Physical test • Adequate Health • Spotless Police Record • Driving License Class B

Procedures
• After the deadline around 500 applicants are invited for a recruitment day (approximately 1200 applicants in 2013)
• Recruitment Day consists of three phases: • Writing an assignment • Physical test • Interview
• The Board makes the final selection of candidates • Approx. 200 candidates will be offered employment

• The department's main task is to implement and develop supplementary education that meets the needs of the service
• Education and training include prison officers and employees of the Probation Offices
• The department also have responsability for
development tasks
• The department consists of: 1 head of department, 5 senior advisors and 4 advisors.

Competence Enhancement (2011-15)
Competence Enhancement are mandatory for employees who have worked five years or more in the Correctional Services.
Key topics are: • Correctional service for today and tomorrow • Alternative sanctions • Safety • Foreign prisoners • Use of interpreters • Work with relationship The course is divided into three modules: • three day course at KRUS • a written task in the units • two day course in the regions

• The Research Department of the Academy carries out research on corrections and the execution of sentences.
• In cooperation with the services, government partners, universities/university colleges and research institutions, the aim is to produce and publish knowledge of high quality.
• This knowledge will contribute to professional vocational education and practice in the Correctional Services and to solve criminal policy challenges.
• The department has a social scientific profile and consists of: one research manager, three associate professors, one senior adviser, one researcher and one scholarship holder.
