June 2010

You'll have a good memory

and be organized with the Sun and Mercury in your

sign this month. This is a good time demonstrate

your skills and prove that

you're capable and reliable. You'll be happy

and focused on doing good work. Mercury will be

retrograde until May 11,

bringing some difficulty with important papers,

contracts, and various kinds of information.

Others will find your presence soothing and

grounding. Pay attention

to money matters and try to stick to a budget. You'll

plan a lot of activities with your family over the

coming weeks and put a

lot of energy into your home.

SYNOPSIS OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH, 2010 MEETING A bright spot in the long, cold, wet winter is our annual Valentine’s Day Cruise and Brunch. This year we went back to the Cooperage Inn in Baiting Hollow and it was a really fun time. The weather was great and lots of Vettes met up and cruised out to the restaurant, where we had good food and drink with lots of good friends. It doesn’t get better than this! The event was Co-chaired by Carol Kalolekas and Rich Fingerhut. Joe E., our Events Director, reviewed the calendar of events that are planned and we discussed the possibility of adding some other events.

A C T I V I T I E S R E P O R T by Joe Emmart

On Sunday May 2nd Long Island Vettes had our first show of the season at Corvettes Unlimited. In the early morning I was not sure if the weather was going to cooperate, with clouds and light drizzle. But as the day moved on, the weather gradually cleared and the corvettes started rolling in. Doug, the owner of Corvettes Unlimited, said he was very pleased with the turn out and liked the fact that we were well organized, and thought we were a great group of people and would like for us to come back next year to do another show.

I was also pleased with the turn out and would like to thank Corvettes Unlimited for allowing us to have our event at their location. To update those of you who had missed the show, we had Ralph and Steve from Cross Flag Café. They did a great job in providing us breakfast and lunch. In addition , Joe and Jerry joined us from Gliptone Wax and were nice enough to donate products to the club to be raffled off, along with some door prizes that had been donated to us from Mid America Motorworks,. The Barber Shop donated a gift certificate for a shave and a hair cut, their located in Lindenhurst on the corner of Wellwood Ave and Hoffman Ave. With all that said and done, we got through the day ending the show at 2:30pm. I personally would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who did come down and participated in the show. Especially Joanne Yakkey for the large cosmetic basket that she made for us to raffle off, and for collecting money for the 50/50. Jim Rudolph who started his day at 6:30am by going down to Corvettes Unlimited to show the food vender where to park so they could set up and have breakfast available for us early birds. Art Donnelly for the nice job he did with organizing the parking of the cars and leaving enough space for everyone to be comfortable. Mark Tully for announcing the trophy winners, and the board of directors for the support and effort that they all put in to help make the event a success. Please remember to stop by and support our club at our new summer hang out on Sunday mornings between the hours of 9am to 12pm at Advance Auto Parts located in Lindenhurst, on the corners of South Wellwood Ave and Montauk Highway. It’s a great location and it gives you a place to drive to on a Sunday morning where you know friends are waiting to see you. It’s also a nice way to connect with other corvette enthusiasts. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Long Island Vettes’ club picnic on July 11th at Eisenhower Park. The next scheduled club event will be held at the Bellmore Library on August 8th. Followed by an all car show for the Wantagh F.D. on August 22nd.

Keep in touch with the Events Calendar on our Website: www.longislandvettes.org. Please note that the old address that ended in .com is not our address anymore. It is very important

that you remember our correct address so you can get correct information about our club activities.

A lot of our members seem to still be confused about the club logo and some of our former members who resigned. Art Donnelly made a presentation to the club members about the

history of their disagreements with us, and the actions they have taken. He also discussed some of the actions we have been forced to take to protect the club.

SYNOPSIS OF APRIL 2010 MEETING OF LIV

Well, Spring seems to be here, and none too soon! It’s time to start having some fun with

those cars and get them out of storage, those of you who put them away for the winter!

On Sunday, April 18 we will be starting our seasonal “hangouts” on Sunday mornings at Advanced Auto Parts in Lindenhurst from 9 AM – Noon. Stop by to chat and have some “joe”

with your friends. At the first meeting we will be having a judging refresher course in

preparation for our upcoming show.

Our first show will be on May 2, and will be held at Corvettes Unlimited, with a rain date of May 16. (Mother’s Day falls on May 9, so that date is out for a car show, for those of you who

need a reminder!)

Remember to check the Website for information and registration forms for our upcoming

events. And, remember, our Web address is: www.longislandvettes.org not .com.

SYNOPSIS OF MAY 2010 MEETING OF LIV

We had our first show of the season at Corvettes Unlimited, and we had a great time! Thanks

to Doug, the owner, for letting us have the show there. We had a good turnout and there were

some beautiful Vettes at the show. It was a tough job to judge the cars. We also had a food vendor who kept us well fed all day. And the Gliptone rep was there with a full line of his

products. The weather actually improved during the day and by the end of the show there were several sunburns visible. If you missed it, make sure to attend our next show in August

at the elementary school next to the Bellmore Library.

We’ve started our Sunday morning hangouts at Advance Auto Parts in Lyndenhurst. It’s a very

convenient location and you can pick up any needed auto parts while you have coffee, donuts and good conversation. We’re there every Sunday from 9 AM – Noon.

We have some fun activities planned, so keep checking on the Website for details.

Corvettes at Carlisle will be taking place from Thursday August 26, 2010

through Sunday August 29, 2010. As usual, Long Island Vettes Ltd. will be located in booths ID - 75 through ID - 79, near the grandstand. We will

again be sharing our spaces with Ed Gentile of TKO Performance and the

Metro – LI chapter of the NCRS.

Current Long Island Vettes Ltd. members are welcome to bring some items that they wish to sell, as long as the items are marked clearly and someone watches over them throughout the event. The club can not be

responsible for any items left alone on our tables. Also, beverages and snacks will be available

to members, so stop on by. We will be passing around a sign-up sheet for “booth-duty” at Carlisle at the July and the August meetings. We would appreciate it if anyone attending would

volunteer to put in one or two hours under the tent throughout the weekend.

We have reservations set up for 20 people at this time, so anyone that is interested in signing up please contact Marty Baker-Fingerhut at 631-874-3468 or by email at [email protected] We hope to see you there!
