Book Group For October, the selection is: The Help by Kathryn Stockett (Hardcover,464 pages). Buy cheap at Amazon or Costco, or reserve a library copy asap as it's in great demand. The novel is set in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962 during the early civil right's movement. It is a story of social awakening and describes the intertwined lives of several women on opposite sides of the racial divide. The historical background and setting as well as her characters are wonderfully developed so that the story is gripping, heartwarming and heartbreaking. The selection for November is The Great World Spin by Colum McCann. The plot of the book concerns a crowd that gathers to watch a man walk across a tight rope between the twin towers in New York City in 1974. The people in the crowd do not know each other, but are brought together by this event. The plot of the book then unwinds from the lives of these New Yorkers.(Ann Sexton) The Book Group meets on October 12 and November 4 at 7:30 pm at Ann Sexton‟s house, 57 Drum Hill Lane, Stamford, (203-968-8090). “Presumed Guilty” “A rare - and chilling - glimpse of Mexico’s

dysfunctional legal system.” (Wall St. Journal)

Series: Crisis, Culture and Human Rights It was like something out of Kafka: Mexico City resident Tono Zuñiga was arrested, told he had committed a murder he knew nothing about, and sentenced to 20 years in jail. An indictment of the system—yes. But this film is much, much more. It‟s one of the most riveting courtroom dramas you‟ll find, as we watch the peculiar intimacy of Mexican retrials, where the convicted and the accuser face off in a ritualistic exchange of great, quiet intensity. Roberto Hernández. 2008. 87 minutes NR. Mexico, Spanish with subtitles.

Wednesday Discussion Group at 7:30 in Christ Church Library October 6: **FIRST WEDNESDAY SOCIAL** Light refreshments will be provided during the

He has spoken on this subject at Riverside Yacht Club, Retired Men's Assoc. in Darien, and in Greenwich where his presentation was taped and replayed on TV. A Yale graduate, Cal is a retired banker. Coordinator: Jay Kane October 20: “Dear Abby” fun. Chat and chuckle about social issues. October 27: Halloween Party at Church Please bring a snack or beverage to share.

Our “spirited” Wine Tasting Event at Mr. Butler‟s Greenwich home on 9/18. With Sommelier par excellence. ...a very fine and rare evening, indeed.
