C’est avec le traité de Traité de Londres qu’il a été fondé en 1949 par un groupe de gouvernants nationaux bien décidés à ce que les horreurs et les souffrances des deux guerres mondiales du XXe siècle ne se répètent jamais.Depuis, les dix membres fondateurs (Belgique, Danemark, France, Irlande, Italie, Luxembourg, Pays Bas, Norvège, Suède et Royaume-Uni) ont été rejoints par presque tous les autres pays européens, ce qui porte aujourd'hui à 47 le nombre des Etats membres de l’Organisation.
Histoire Depuis sa création, le Conseil de l'Europe a remarquablement avancé dans la poursuite de ses objectifs. Il a relevé les grands dé�s de la situation politique et sociale de l’Europe et n’a pas manqué de réagir à l’apparition des nouveaux dangers qui menacent les droits de l'homme de la population européenne.Le Conseil de l'Europe a été l’une des premières institutions internationales à ouvrir ses portes aux pays d’Europe centrale et orientale après la chute du mur de Berlin ; il a aussi adopté de nouveaux traités pour faire face aux problèmes contemporains, tels que la cybercriminalité, la criminalité en matière de santé, le terrorisme international et la traite des êtres humains.

C’est avec le traité de Traité de Londres qu’il a été fondé en 1949 par un groupe de gouvernants nationaux bien décidés à ce que les horreurs et les souffrances des deux guerres mondiales du XXe siècle ne se répètent jamais.Depuis, les dix membres fondateurs (Belgique, Danemark, France, Irlande, Italie, Luxembourg, Pays Bas, Norvège, Suède et Royaume-Uni) ont été rejoints par presque tous les autres pays européens, ce qui porte aujourd'hui à 47 le nombre des Etats membres de l’Organisation.
Histoire Depuis sa création, le Conseil de l'Europe a remarquablement avancé dans la poursuite de ses objectifs. Il a relevé les grands dé�s de la situation politique et sociale de l’Europe et n’a pas manqué de réagir à l’apparition des nouveaux dangers qui menacent les droits de l'homme de la population européenne.Le Conseil de l'Europe a été l’une des premières institutions internationales à ouvrir ses portes aux pays d’Europe centrale et orientale après la chute du mur de Berlin ; il a aussi adopté de nouveaux traités pour faire face aux problèmes contemporains, tels que la cybercriminalité, la criminalité en matière de santé, le terrorisme international et la traite des êtres humains.
