A new Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse has been adopted by the Council of Europe, and has been signed by many member states. This Convention aims to prevent and combat sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children and to provide assistance to them when they have been sexually harmed by adults they have met in cyberspace. Given that these problems have a global dimension, the solutions offered by the Council of Europe are increasingly global in their vocation. This is why Council of Europe treaties reinforcing the protection of rights and users in the Internet are open to accession by all states. For more details on what the Council of Europe is doing for Internet governance visit www.coe.int/internetgovernance The Council of Europe is an international political organisation, which brings together over 800 million citizens from 47 countries, making up an entire democratic continent. In its work based on intergovernmental cooperation, the Council of Europe seeks to promote democracy, the rule of law and human rights. Its permanent headquarters are in Strasbourg, France. 47 member states of the Council of Europe: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, ”The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom. © Council of Europe/Photo:Michel Renard
