of speech, brought in cen-

sorship, and as a result, the

Hungarians became more

aggravated.

As a result of all

the violence, 200,000 Hun-

garian refugees fled to

Austria, Russia stayed in

control of Hungary from

behind the Iron Curtain,

and many British Commu-

nists left the Communist

Party due to the horrifying

destruction of the Hungari-

ans. This has increased

tension between Russia and

the West because

the West was horri-

fied with what Com-

munist rule had done

to Hungarian culture.

Shame, torture,

and death all befell the

Hungarians after their

seemingly easy win over

the Russian Army. It all

started October 23 with

riots of students, workers,

and soldiers who started to

smash the statue of Stalin

and attack Russian sol-

diers/AVH (Secret Police).

The Russian army was star-

tled so they gave in to Imre

Nagy’s demands to remove

Russian troops from Hun-

gary. With the new democ-

ratic Government

led by Imre Nagy,

freedom of speech

and religion was free

to flourish within the

country.

Just when Hungari-

ans thought they

were safe from the

Russia, Krushchev’s

army rolled into Bu-

dapest on November

4th with a thousand

army tanks filled

with Russian Soldiers

to destroy the Hun-

garians. Although

Russian soldiers were

equipped with all sorts of

weapons, the Hungarian

people fought back using

machine guns.

Although the re-

volt started quickly, it did-

n’t just start out of the blue.

The Hungarians hadn’t

been agreeing with any of

the Communist Party’s poli-

cies since they had taken

control of Hungary. In at-

tempt to bring in Commu-

nist rule, the Russians

banned religion, freedom

From Our Perspective

I believe this event re-

veals a lot about how the

West and their democ-

ratic system conflicts

with Russia's Communist

system. It revealed how

different the ideologies

are and how much peo-

ple can disagree over an

ideology. The effect it

had on international re-

lations was that people

no longer desired to

participate in communist

affairs because they saw

how badly they had

treated the Hungarians

after the revolt.

One benefit of using your

newsletter as a promotional

tool is that you can reuse

content from other market-

ing materials, such as press

releases, market studies,

and reports.

While your main goal of

distributing a newsletter

might be to sell your prod-

uct or service, the key to a

successful newsletter is

making it useful to your

readers.

A great way to add useful

content to your newsletter

is to develop and write

your own articles, or in-

clude a calendar of upcom-

ing events or a special offer

that promotes a new prod-

uct.

You can also research arti-

cles or find “filler” articles

by accessing the World

Wide Web. You can write

about a variety of topics but

try to keep your articles

short.

Much of the content you put

in your newsletter can also

be used for your Web site.

Microsoft Publisher offers a

simple way to convert your

newsletter to a Web publi-

cation. So, when you’re

finished writing your news-

letter, convert it to a Web

site and post it.
