Message from the Head of School “Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when He finished, one of

Hs disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1 (NIV)

There are so many things that I love about this verse. First, I like to reflect upon Jesus’ habit of taking time to be alone with God. He knew that close communion with the Father provided a source of refuge and strength. Secondly, the fervent request to be taught how to pray as Jesus did rings so true to my heart. The disciples yearn for that Parent/Child relationship with the Most High just as I do. And so, Jesus responds by leading them in a time of collective prayer. Likewise, I also am blessed by the opportunity to be in corporate prayer with fellow disciples through CCS. From the time spent praying with board members, to daily prayers with teachers, and even joining the sweet prayers of the students in chapel and math class, I am continually reminded of God’s presence in our school. Thank you to the many families who remember to lift up our school in prayer. Your prayers are felt and very much appreciated! Please enjoy the break next week, and pray for our safe travel to the Birmingham Childlight conference. Pray that we will be renewed in our walk with the Lord and inspired with passionate commitment to our Charlotte Mason methodology. And we’ll also be praying for you. In Him, Christine

Spanish: In Spanish this week students are starting to wrap up their Super 7 vocabulary and persona especial questions. The students shared their story script where they used many of the high frequency verbs to make up a story. Wonderful stories! We'll continue with a project on this next week. The highlight of the week was having the class ask their newly learned questions in Spanish to a Persona Especial (Special Person). I loved hearing students speak in the target language! They are preparing nicely for their assessment that will occur October 9th. As usual Duolingo due Friday night by 10:00 p.m.

Form V Bible: Form 5 students this week have been working diligently on reading and comparing scripture both in the new and old testament. They are determining what reads like an obvious prophecy and charting their observations. We ended the week with a round table discussion about who God is calling us to love in our neighborhoods, families, or school. Our goal as a class is to serve a community as we start keeping one ear out! Monday, October 1st the students will assess for their memory passage Psalm 139:1-4..

Form V Language Arts, Literature, History: We dove into the world of the Incan Civilization this week! Students used drama to unpack the story of their early beginnings and retold the details of how one family rose to power and ruled one of the largest empires in the world. Additionally, we read information about the first natives to settle in the Americas, the Eskimos, and the Cliff Dwellers of the southwest. Students divided into groups and made replicas of artifacts with modeling clay and presented their findings to the class. We located the countries found within North and Central America and the Caribbean as well. In Language Arts, students practiced memorizing prepositions and did work throughout the week that showed how well they could identify various parts of speech.

Physical Science: This week students finished the topic on Motion by practicing the mathematical equation F=ma. We then learned about Speed and Acceleration by doing an experiment where they answered the question “Will the height of the ramp affect a car’s speed?” They also read topics related to speed and acceleration. We ended the week by reviewing all the concepts in preparation for the unit assessment next week.

VOLLEYBALL! Our volleyball team is hard at work practicing for the

season. Games begin October 12 and will be held

each Monday and Thursday at Quarterpath Rec Center at 6:30 pm.

Mark your calendars and come out to support the

Carpenters!

Form VI Bible and Literature: Students are becoming more familiar with our ancient scriptures as we studied and compared the creation of the Israelites found in Genesis with the creation narratives of the Canaanites and Babylonians. Students compared and contrasted these narratives with the God of the Bible and saw how drastically different our God's vision for humanity is: to know Him, love Him, and be loved by Him. In Literature we continued to watch Mara, the Egyptian slave, become a spy working for both the Pharaoh Hatshepsut and her younger brother, Thutmose. Students used illustration narration and prepared their own discussion questions to dive deeper into the text.

Spanish High School students this week created their own story using high frequency verbs in preterite/past tense. The students created a story board (picture narration) and presented their story in front of the class. They had created some great stories and beautiful storyboards! Next week this class will assess on the Persona Especial as they have been working on interviewing each other in the target language. In this assessment students will be writing a narrative about everything they learned about their classmates. Duolingo due Friday night by 10:00 p.m.

Biology

This week the students learned about the two major topics - Structure of Flowers and The Development of Fruits and Seeds. Each group brought a flower (lily or hibiscus) that they dissected today and looked under a microscope. Honors Biology students are choosing their research topics for their Science Project. They are also introduced to the method of creating the background to their research paper.
