Alleluia!
Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
WELCOME Convinced of God’s grace, the Church of the Covenant seeks to be a welcoming spiritual home, live God’s inclusive love, express Christ’s compassion, and do justice in the world.
GATHER We gather to worship God on the Lord’s Day (Sunday) because the Gospels testify that Jesus rose from the dead early on the first day of the week.

Opening Prayer
Almighty God,
you sent Jesus to proclaim your kingdom
and to teach with authority.
Anoint us with your Spirit,
that we too may bring good news to the poor,
bind up the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to the captive;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Prayer of Confession Jim Tomaszewski, Liturgist
Please join me in the corporate prayer of confession:
Gracious and Compassionate God,
We have heard Your commands, and seen the example of
Your Son, and still we are not faithful.
We have neglected to do good
when it was in our power to do so.
We have neglected to provide our children and our world
an authentic example of Christianity.
We call You gracious, yet we practice greed.
We praise You with our lips,
yet we do not honor You in our lives.
Discontent consumes us as we yearn for still more things.
O God, who said to David:
“if my people who are called by my name
humble themselves, pray, seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin and heal their land,”
please forgive us.
We promise to strive to be a grateful and humble people,
working to do Your will in our broken land.
Listen, as we silently petition for forgiveness from our failings.
Prayer by Jim Tomaszewski
Declaration of Forgiveness
Hear the good news!
The Apostle Paul declares: “He has rescued us from the
power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of
His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption,
the forgiveness of sins.” Friends, believe the good news.
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Sermon Naming It Rev. Shelley Nelson-Bridger
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand
of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge
the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic Church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen

Prayer of Thanksgiving
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise. Eternal God, creator of the world and giver of all good, we thank you for the earth, our home, and for the gift of life. We praise you for your love in Jesus Christ, who came to heal this broken world, who died rejected on the cross and rose triumphant from the dead. Because he lives, we live to praise you, our God forever. Gracious God, who called us from death to life, we give ourselves to you; and with the church through all ages we thank you for your saving love Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever,

Children’s Zoom Sunday Meets Update
1/24, Happy Birthday to Marley Goodman! It is always exciting to have a birthday to celebrate!
Today in our Sunday Zoom Meet, we finished the Ten Commandments with our young disciples.
All five of them enjoyed discussing what each commandment meant to them. We asked them to
put each commandment into their own words. Here are some of their thoughts.
(The words in color are the words of the kids.)
*Commandment 9; Do not accuse anyone falsely. “Don’t be toxic”
*Commandment 4; Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. You have six days in which to do your
work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. “Rest on Sunday for God”
*“Do not desire another man’s house; do not desire another’s wife or husband, his slaves, his
cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns.” Commandment 10.”
Can be related to commandment 8, “Do not steal”!!

Winter Warm-up Meals for CWRU Grad Students
Kefta. Bechamel covered chicken. Cabbage stew. These were Mae Elassal's beautiful dishes
at the Falafel Cafe for January 29, Winter Warm-up Meal when Church of the Covenant and
CWRU's Office of Graduate Student Life teamed up again to serve 64 hot take-away meals for
graduate students across all CWRU programming.
We remain grateful for your generosity, Covenant, as we serve CWRU's campus community
together at this most unusual time. From behind Mae's counter, I heard an abundance of
thank you's and saw smiles masks cannot hide.
Peace be with you, Rev. Shelley Nelson-Bridger, UPCaM
