AI Takeover

- Hypothetical scenario in which AI becomes the dominant form of intelligence on earth.

- Computers or robots take control of the planet away from the human race.

- A machine could be motivated to take over the world.

- It would increase its access to resources.

- It would help to prevent others from thwarting the machine's plans.

If a dominant superintelligent machine were to conclude that human survival is an unnecessary risk or a waste of resources, the result would be human extinction.

Intelligence amplification

A computer program with the same, or greater, programming abilities as a competent AI researcher, would be able to modify its own source code and increase its own intelligence, and it would rapidly leave human intelligence far behind.

A significant problem is that unfriendly AI is likely to be much easier to create than friendly AI.

The next generation of these tools will add machine learning capabilities to improve the quality of machine vision and natural language understanding.

The ability to create artificial intelligence avatars that can fool people online will only make the problem worse.

IoT Botnets

- On September 2016, OVH was the victim to the record-breaking DDoS attacks with peaks of over 1 Tbps of traffic.

- The attack was lead 152,000 IoT devices.

- On October 2016, a series of DDoS attacks caused widespread disruption of internet activity in the US.

- The attacks targeted the Domain Name System.

- The length of disruptions varied, but in some cases it was several hours.

- Unsecured internet-connected digital devices, such as home routers and surveillance cameras, formed a botnet.

- The malware infected over 500,000 devices, according to Level 3 Communications.

- Dyn said that the DDOS attacks are coming from “tens of millions of IP addresses at the same time”.

Microsoft blamed Tay's behavior on a “coordinated attack by a subset of people” that “exploited a vulnerability in Tay”.
