When you encounter the passage

Example 1After looking at her scores on her Maths paper, Jo sighed. “This is worse than I thought,” she mumbled to herself. All her efforts had gone to waste. All she wanted to now was to bury herself under her blanket and wallow in self-pity.

Her thoughts were disrupted by a chirpy voice.

“Hey Jo, do you want to go for lunch? We are thinking of trying out the new Japanese restaurant at the corner of the street,” Sammie asked.

“Sorry, I think I will give it a miss. I’m having a headache,” Jo stuttered, before rushing out of the classroom.
