The next general membership meeting of the Fr. McNelis Council is the one you should not miss! In addition to bringing the curtain down on the formal schedule of activities for most Brother Knights, the monthly session of Wednesday, June 12, is the one occasion when we gather with wives, children, grandchildren, siblings and parents along with the brothers of our order. The annual summer family picnic will follow what
promises to be a fast-paced final round of official business for the council. And you can’t beat the convenience! Grand Knight Mike
Morris will gavel our business session to order at 6 p.m. — one hour ear-lier than usual — and will adjourn our meeting about 6:30 so we can commence our festivities. Br. Kevin Buggey is in command of the kitchen
and has arranged for a fine traditional picnic meal of hamburgers, hot dogs and the fixings, for all in atten-
dance. Brothers and their families are encouraged to bring “covered dish” size servings of typical picnic side dishes, salads and deserts to share with other families. Brs. Bob Dalecki and Tom Bresnahan will organize
the council’s annual picnic game tournament — call it cornhole, call it beanbag, but be sure to call it fun — and coordinate the round of competition with the trophy of honor at stake for the champion! It’s a fun game for players of all ages! Please contact the council leaders and event chair-
men ahead of time to share in the planning so that a proper meal is arranged for all who expect to attend. Although brief, our meeting will feature an active
agenda. As our council concludes the formal business calendar for the year, we will welcome as our guests the newest candidates for Brothers of the First De-gree. Our scholarship committee will introduce the winner of the 2019 Frank Sibley Memorial Knights of Columbus Family Scholarship. The Knight Of The Year Award committee will announce the winner of the council’s vote taken at our May meeting.

Mothers Day was made more special at several of the Indiana area nursing homes, personal care facilities and senior living centers — thanks to you and the other members of our parishes. The Knights of Columbus donated more than 600
carnations to the aging mothers of our community, an annual tribute made possible by a generous supply ar-rangement with The Flower Gallery, of Indiana, and the donations of the Knights and our parishioners. This yearly campaign also generates a hearty profit
that our council devotes to mothers-to-be. Our contribution this year will go to the Life Choices
women’s health centers of Indiana, Kittanning, Butler and Greensburg, to support their pro-life counseling and pregnancy care services in our region.

The first day of spring made 40 years since I quit buying cigarettes. Never bought another cigarette again, and saved a bunch of money. Felt pretty good! Of course, in the big picture, I quit smoking ciga-
rettes, too. But I thought that simply “quitting smok-ing” would be too difficult and stressful, so I made it work by looking at it differently. Sometimes that’s how we need people to
see the Knights of Columbus. Just asking someone to “join the K of C” may not be their cup of tea. But suggesting to a young father, “here’s a way to be a better family man,” or a recently retired man, “I know a way that you can accomplish a lot in your spare time,” just might strike the right chord. When you share the word about the Knights of Co-
lumbus, know the man you’re approaching. If you know something about his position in life, and what
he does, what he likes and what God-given gifts he enjoys, you’ll know how to make the K of C a per-fect fit for him. Any practical Catholic age 18 and over is a perfect
candidate for the Knights. Invite them to join the fight for life, to help us raise funds for our causes, to develop a new circle of friends. Ask them to support our priests, to strengthen our school, to share their exper-tise and ideas for helping people in need in our community. Or tell them about the camaraderie of at-
tending monthly meetings and socializing! After all, some just need to be asked to consider joining the Knights of Columbus.
