I am sure Sisterhood means dierent things to dierent people at dierent times and in dierent situations. Sisterhood can be an ethereal concept, like love and everyones perception of its manifestation is dierent. Some may feel it is an emotional connection, some may see it as a networking opportunity, while some may view it as a place to belong, others embrace it as all of these things, and there will be others that dont believe it has any of these qualities and is something altogether dierent. The concept of Sisterhood is as varied as the women who comprise it. This does not make ones notion right, nor does it make anothers wrong, it simply is what it is…dierent. This, I believe, is why our Delta Sigma Theta Sisterhood is so strong. We are a mosaic of abilities, talents, personalities, likes and dislikes. We can be as dierent as individuals can be, but when it comes to who we are in Delta, how we govern ourselves and treat one another, as well as the goals and ideals we should strive to incorporate into our daily lives these are very plainly spelled out in our Ritual, Cardinal Virtues & Oath. There is no secret recipe or magic formula to making a great Sisterhood; at least none that I am aware of, however I thought that this poem was a valiant attempt to try to put it into words. I am sure Sisterhood means different things to different people at different times and in different situations. Sisterhood can be an ethereal concept, like love and everyone’s perception of its manifestation is different. Some may feel it is an emotional connection, some may see it as a networking opportunity, while some may view it as a place to “belong”, others embrace it as all of these things, and there will be others that don’t believe it has any of these qualities and is something altogether different.

The concept of Sisterhood is as varied as the women who comprise it. This does not make one’s notion right, nor does it make another’s wrong, it simply is what it is…different. This, I believe, is why our Delta Sigma Theta Sisterhood is so strong. We are a mosaic of abilities, talents, personalities, likes and dislikes.  Our Sorority is filled with many unique individuals, yet we strive to remain focused and cohesive. The ability of our beloved sisterhood to remain unified since 1913 highlights the importance of our cardinal virtues which provide each and every Soror of Delta Sigma Theta a guiding focal point. We can be as different as individuals can be, but when it comes to who we are in Delta, how we govern ourselves and treat one another, as well as the goals and ideals we should strive to incorporate into our daily lives these are very plainly spelled out in our Ritual, Cardinal Virtues & Oath. Sisterhood is a loving spirit, a forgiving heart, a helping hand, a kind word, a powerful connection, an eternal bond…Sisterhood; my Sorors is Delta Sigma Theta!

I look forward to seeing you at our Founders Day Celebration!

Delta Day at the State Capitol is swiftly approaching and it will be an event you won’t want to miss!!! Mark your calendars for MARCH 2, 2010 when the Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. converge on the Indiana State House representing the GREAT State of Indiana all dressed in RED! Delta Day at the State Capitol is the our state’s biennial legislative advocacy day in which we increase our members’ involvement in the Indiana public policy making process. This year’s theme is:

Embracing Change from the Heart: Deltas in Action for Economic, Educational and Social Justice On March 2, 2010, we will have the opportunity to hear from leaders from across the State. The day will consist of workshops/panel discussions, reacquainting ourselves with the Delta Social Action Agenda, and meetings with our elected officials. We will also name two Sorors as the Social Activists of the Year. Collegiate Sorors may contact Indiana State Coordinator, Soror Rachelle Hardiman Bible at [email protected] for an official letter to be excused from classes if they attend this prestigious event.

In honor of Sisterhood Month, our Delta Bookmark March Selection is The Love Child’s Revenge by our national Delta Spotlight Author, Soror Nicole Bailey-Williams!

Claudie “Peach” Fryar is a vixen. Born to a mother who works as a domestic for the Harrisons, an affluent African American family who resides in Philadelphia’s East Oak Lane section, Claudia has felt like an outsider all of her life. She’s chubby, she stutters and she grows up with her nose pressed against the windowpane, peering in on the lives of the privileged Harrison girls. It’s not enough that they grew up attending elite events and holding membership in exclusive clubs, but the matriarch of the Harrison clan seem to revel in torturing young Claudia.  Why? Her husband, the respectable Louis Harrison, is young Claudia’s father also! When he dies, Claudia’s mother is fired and the two are virtually run out of town, oblivious to the fact that Louis has made provision in his will to take care of his “love child”. When Claudia returns to Philadelphia years later after learning that she’s been cheated out of her share of wealth, she’s full of venom with an ax to grind! She’s vowed to get revenge for every privilege that she’s been denied and she’ll stop at nothing to get it!
