FABStar! Features FABStar! is an initiative to recognise positive behaviours in the playground. Two FABStar! slips (one from K-2, one from 3-6) were drawn from all the students who received FABStar! slips in recognition of their positive behaviours on the playground last week.

Our K-2 FABSTAR! Feature is Matthew from Year 2. After school, Matthew saw a Kindergarten child fall and graze his knee. He ran to ask his own mother for a band aid and then approached the Kindergarten child and placed the band aid on his knee. Thank you for your care and kindness!

Our 3-6 FABSTAR! Features Morgan, Mathena and Alex of 3CP for showing Kindy girls how to play a game on the playground.

Measles: Information for school communities

Sydney is currently experiencing an outbreak of measles which began in April 2012. The NSW Ministry of Health is seeking the assistance of school principals in providing their school communities with information about measles, to assist in promoting awareness of detection and prevention of measles. The NSW Ministry of Health has provided Information for school communities about measles. Principals are encouraged to share this information with their school communities. Providing information to parents and carers of students at NSW schools can facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of children with the infection and may help prevent further spread in the community. Should principals become aware of a student with measles they must advise their local public health unit. Contact details for public health units can be accessed from the NSW Health website at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/publichealth/Infectious/phus.asp For further information about this memorandum and the accompanying information sheet please contact Diane Backhausen, Coordinator Student Health on telephone number 9244 5502 or by email at [email protected] Deonne Smith General manager access and equity

Whooping Cough (Pertussis)

Welcome to our information site on whooping cough. Here you will find lots of information about how to identify the disease - protect your children - prevent the spread. Whooping cough (which is sometimes also called pertussis) is a serious infection that usually causes a long coughing illness. In babies, the infection can be life threatening. Anyone can get whooping cough and the infection can spread to others, including babies. The last major outbreak in NSW was in 2008 and 2009, but whooping cough is always around. In late 2010, we are seeing lots of whooping cough especially in primary-school-aged children in NSW. You are invited to learn more about whooping cough by clicking on the links below.
