As a committee, the Jindalee State

School P & C is focussed on promoting

parent participation and encouraging

collaboration between parents, students,

the teachers and administration staff

within the school. It is about fostering

a commitment to achieving the best

educational outcomes for the children.

The teaching and administration staff,

led by the principal can only achieve so

much on their own and the P & C acts

as an extension to their great work. They

ensure projects such as the purchase of air

conditioning, new classroom furniture

and lights on the multi-purpose courts

just to name a few. They also manage the

tuckshop, uniform shop, School Aged Care

Program and they drive fund raising

through events such as the annual fete.

My C ountryBy Dorothea Mackel lar

The love of f ield and coppice,Of green and shaded lanes.

Of ordered woods and gardensIs running in your veins,

Strong love of grey-blue distanceBrown streams and soft dim skies

I know but cannot share it ,My love is otherwise.

I love a sunburnt country,A land of sweeping plains,

Of ragged mountain ranges,Of droughts and f looding rains.

I love her far horizons,I love her jewel-sea,

Her beauty and her terror -The wide brown land for me!

A stark white ring-barked forestAl l tragic to the moon,

The sapphire-misted mountains,The hot gold hush of noon.

Green tangle of the brushes,Where lithe lianas coil ,

And orchids deck the tree-topsAnd ferns the warm dark soil.

C ore of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky,

When sick at heart, around us,We see the cattle die -

But then the grey clouds gather,And we can bless again

The drumming of an army,The steady, soaking rain.

C ore of my heart, my country!Land of the Rainbow Gold,

For f lood and f ire and famine,She pays us back threefold -

Over the thirsty paddocks,Watch, after many days,

The f ilmy veil of greennessThat thickens as we gaze.

An opal-hearted country,A wilful, lavish land -

Al l you who have not loved her,You wil l not understand -

Though earth holds many splendours,Wherever I may die,

I know to what brown countryMy homing thoughts wil l f ly.

JSS stall signThe annual Jindalee State School (JSS) fete is one of the P&C’s most profitable sources of fundraising for our school. As much as we appreciciate the input and revenue from our non-JSS run stalls (outside stall holders); it is the JSS run stalls that provide the best source of income for our school.

All JSS run stalls are done so completely on a voluntary basis. All products have been made and / or donated and the convenors are unpaid.

All JSS stalls at the fete will display this leaflet. So please keep an eye out and support your school.

Your OfficialMap and Program Official Map and Program

The official map and program for fete day went to print earlier this week and will be making an appearance very, very soon.

WHAT’S IN THE MAP / PROGRAM?This little beauty has everything you need to know about fete day. There is a program that will let you know what is happening on stage and when. Keep your eye on this throughout the day so you know when your children will be on stage. It also has all the times for the Great Barrier Reef Raffle, The Lorrikeet Live Auction and all of the day’s entertainment.

Official Map and ProgramKeep an eye out for it

Also within the pages you will find a detailed, large, fold-out map, which will tell you where all the great stalls are, where the amenities are and of course where the rides are.

The map has colour co-ordinated categories to make it easier to find like attractions. Categories include amenities; stalls; food & drinks; rides & attractions; auctions, raffles & competitions and kid’s activities.

Last but not least, the map also indicates which stalls are run by Jindalee State School volunteers. This lets our fete goers know how to find those stalls most attributable to the day’s fundraising.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE MAP / PROGRAM?Well you won’t be finding it in your letterbox this year. We are trialling a new method for distribution in an effort to prevent the fete guide being lost amongst the other unaddressed mail in your letterbox.

This year a copy of the map / program will be sent home with your youngest child. There will also be maps / programs available in many businesses throughout the Centenary suburbs. They will be distributed through other schools, local clubs, groups and associations. And if you don’t find one that way, they will also be available on the day of the fete at the entry and at the information stall.

From our Site ConvenorsPLEASE GIVE OUR SITE CONVENORS GLENN JOHNSTON AND DAN MACKENZIE A HAND TO PICK UP, SET UP, CLEAN UP AND PACK UP. THIS IS A HUGE JOB FOR THESE GUYS AND THEY NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET.It’s all hands on deck for this one. A range of things need doing for the preparation and clean up of the site. From Thursday 28 August through to Monday 1 September, these guys need lots help with the following:

Thursday between 3pm and 6pm Collection of marquee tents from Centenary Rowing plus pick the up other borrowed and hired items

Friday between 8am and 7pm Are you free at all on Friday? Help is needed to pick up marquees from various locations around the suburbs and set them up on the oval.

Saturday between 8am and 9pm (The big day) Saturday morning we will continue to set up the site and will still need helpers. Prior to the fireworks all marquees need to be removed for the clear zone. This needs to be done as quickly as possible so all hands on deck would be appreciated.

Sunday between 8am and 12pm Sunday is clean up day. This is a BIG, BIG job, yet it can be knocked over quite quickly with many hands.

Please don’t assume that others will do this one. It’s one of the toughest jobs when there is not much help.

Many previous fetes this job has gone well beyond midday because of the lack of helpers. Let’s not see this happen again this year.

Monday between 8am and 12pm The return of much of the borrowed and hired equipment needs to happen on Monday.

So if you are able to assist with any of these times please contact Glenn Johnston: [email protected] or Louise Johnston: [email protected], 0421 160 075

PhotographersWe need a team of photographers on the day. Two volunteers with SLR cameras are required. You will need to ensure any photos taken have permission to be published You will be briefed on how to go about this. If you are not afraid to step out of auto mode on your camera please contact Stef: [email protected]

Billabong Books WE NEED BOOKS! WE NEED BOOKS!

Donations of books, CDs, DVDs, games and puzzles are substantially down compared with previous years. It’s time to sort through those piles at home and pass on all your unwanted items! We really need them urgently as they take time to sort and price. The last day for accepting donations will be Wednesday 27th August! Please drop off anytime at 11 Trevi St, Jindalee – you can leave on my front verandah or carport. Or if you need help with pickup call Kim: 0422 061 614

Jillaroo Jams & ChutneysThank you to everyone who has donated jars and ingredients, I would like to give a special mention to Nicole Frame and Bibi Samedani your generosity has been overwhelming. Thank you also to those who are helping me cook up a storm your help is very much appreciated.

Together we’ve been pumping out some classic conserves such as strawberry jam, marmalade, tomato chutney and sweet onion relish along with some left of centre jam recipes like raspberry and chocolate, fig bourbon and vanilla bean, spiced pear and a seriously yummy banana and pineapple jam. We’ve experimented making some banana curry chutney, a red hot tomato jam that will take your breath away and today I made a strawberry, basil and chilli

jam that is nothing short of delicious, I may be persuaded to give bacon jam a whirl if someone was to request it. In the coming weeks we will be whipping up some sauces, hommus and spice rubs so no matter your taste we will have something for you at Jillaroo Jams!

I’m pretty set for bottles at the moment but if you don’t mind hanging onto the smaller 250-300ml bottles I may need some in the coming weeks. If you’d like to donate some ingredients they will certainly be put to good use. This week capsicum, onions, pears, frozen cranberries, frozen mango, frozen rhubarb (or fresh if you can find them) and gumnuts for decorating the bottles would be very much appreciated.

If you can help out at all please email Vicki: [email protected] or call/text 0433 845 123

The Tip Trash ‘n’ Treasure

We need your unwanted, (yet resellable) goods. Anything except electrical items and baby car seats. Please take all goods to Storage Choice, 50 Spine Street, Sumner Park.

We also need to borrow clothes racks and coat hangers to display the clothes for sale. Please contact Jessica: [email protected]
