    The Discourse on Loving Kindness Mett Sutta (Sutta Nipta 143-152)

    1) This is what should be done by one skilled inwhats good,Who reaches toward that most peaceful state:

    One would be capable, and uprightquite upright;Well-spoken, gentle, not puffed up with pride;

    Karanyamatthakusalena,yantam santam padam abhisamecca;Sakko uj ca suhuj ca,svaco cassa mudu anatimn.

    2) Contented, easily supported,Not doing too much and lightly engaged;Prudent, with senses calmed, andModest, without greed among worldly things.

    Santussako ca subharo ca,appakicco ca sallahukavutti;Santindriyo ca nipako ca,appagabbho kulesvananugiddho ,

    3) One would not do even the slightest thingThat others who are wise would speak against.May they be secure and profoundly well;May all beings be happy

    Na ca khuddamcare kici,yena vi pare upavadeyyum;Sukhino va khemino hontu,sabbasatt 4 bhavantu sukhitatt

    4) Whatsoever living beings exist,Without exception, whether weak or strong,Whether tall and large, middle-sized, or short,Whether very subtle or very gross,

    Ye keci pnabhtatthi,tas v thvar vanavases;Dgh v ye mahant,majjhim rassak anukathl.

    5) Whether visible or invisible,Dwelling near or far away,Whether born already or not yet bornMay all beings be happy.

    Ditth v ye va aditth,ye ca dre vasanti avidre.Bht va sambhaves va,sabbe satt bhavantu sukhitatt .

    6) Let no one harm or deceive another.Nor despise anyone in any placeEither with anger or with ill-will,Let one not wish suffering on others.

    Na paro param nikubbetha,ntimaetha katthaci na kaci.Byrosan patighasa,namaassa dukkhamiccheyya.

    7) Just as a mother would watch over her childher one and only childwith her life,In just the same way cultivate an unbounded mindToward all beings.

    Mt yath niyam puttamyus ekaputtamanurakkhe;Evampi sabbabhtesu,mnasam bhvaye aparimnam .

    8) Let one cultivate boundlessloving kindnessToward the entire world:

    Above and below and all the way around,With no obstruction, no hatred, no emnity.

    Mettaca sabbalokasmi,mnasam bhvaye aparimnam;Uddham adho ca tiriyaca,asambdham averamasapattam

    9) Standing, walking, sitting or lying down, As long as one is awake,One should cultivate this loving kindnessThis is known as sublime abiding here.

    Tittham caram nisinno va,sayno va yvatssa vitamiddho.Etam satim adhittheyya,brahmametam vihramidhamhu.

    10) Without falling into wrong views,Endowed with insight and integrity,Leaving e greed for sensual things,One would not be born again in a womb.

    Ditthica anupaggamma slavdassanena sampanno;Kmesu vinaya gedham,na hi jtuggabbhaseyyam punaretti.

    Discourse on Love- (Chanting from the Heart)

    1) He or she who wants to attain peace should practice being upright, humble,and capable of using loving speech.

    2) He or she will know how to live simply and happily, with senses calmed,without being covetous and carried away by the emotions of the majority.

    3) Let him or her not do anything that will be disapproved of by the wise ones.(And this is what he or she contemplates:)May everyone be happy and safe, and may all hearts be filled with joy.May all beings live in security and in peace

    4) beings who are frail or strong, tall or short, big or small,

    5) invisible or visible, near or faraway, already born, or yet to be born.May all of them dwell in perfect tranquility.

    6) Let no one do harm to anyone. Let no one put the life of anyone in danger.Let no one, out of anger or ill will, wish anyone any harm.

    7) Just as a mother loves and protects her only child at the risk of her ownlife, cultivate boundless love to offer to all living beings in the entire cosmos.

    8) Let our boundless love pervade the whole universe, above, below, andacross.Our love will know no obstacles. Our heart will be absolutely freefrom hatred and enmity.

    9) Whether standing or walking, sitting or lying, aslong as we are awake, we should maintain this mindfulness of love in ourown heart. This is the noblest way of living.

    10) Free from wrong views, greed, and sensual desires, living in beauty andrealizing Perfect Understanding, those who practice boundless love will certainlytranscend birth and death.
