From the Editor

Well, it’s about time for Snoqualmie. It’ll be my first time reenacting there, so I'm

really looking forward to being a part of it. I want to say this, though. It may sound

cliché or old by now, but I’ll say it this once more. I am in my second year of reenact-

ing. Sofar this year we have really pushed ourselves to get the word out about our

hobby and share history. As Mr. Bright has shared below, the reenactor participation

for Old Town Days at Union Gap was 400. There we entertained about 5,000 peo-

ple. Couple that with the best guess of public attendance at Deep Creek, and that’s

roughly 10,000 people who now know a bit more about the Civil War/Victorian era than they did before.

I am highly impressed with that. My reenacting family, whether enlisted or commissioned or civilian, I salute

you all. This is what happens when we go the extra mile, when we actually engage people’s interest in a good

way. I hope Snoqualmie is just as good, and I pray the Lord withholds any microburst that would wreak

havoc.

Election Coordinator, by Rich Bright

Hello WCWA! I have agreed to be the election Coordinator this year for two reasons. First, As per Sec-

tion B-1 of the Bylaws, states: No candidate for office shall be a member of this committee or an Election

Coordinator. It has been a pleasure and a rewarding experience for the last 6 years. But, it is time for

some new blood, therefore I will not be seeking a 4 th Term. The Second, it has been a pet project to

Sheppard the online membership and the online voting. It has not been without its share of ups and

downs, like riding a limber into battle at times, but in the end it has benefited the club and the members.

To that end, I am ready to take our WCWA Roster and send out ballots in email format. Here is how it

will work:

In a few weeks, I will send out a test Email Ballot, to ask the Board to validate the Proposed Election

Procedures as outlined last year and again at the July 2016 BOD Meeting. If successful and accepted,

then below is the process/timelines. If it still is questionable, then we will revert to old system of all physi-

cal ballots, they will be snail mailed out.

Section B. Elections

3. Nominations for officers shall be received by the Election Coordinator until midnight on August 31 st

4. (Statements from Candidates) The Dispatch will be delayed until September 8th to give time for state-

ments to be sent to editor.

7. The Membership Chair of the WCWA, or a designee, shall prepare separate lists of eligible voters for

each of the four groups listed above, as of August 31st

8.If Electronic Ballots are chosen as a delivery system, they will be emailed out September 10 th . Any elec-

tronic ballot viewed, on or before September 21st a return receipt notice will be generated automatically

and will be considered received, and no physical ballot will be sent. Anyone who did not open email or

was not sent an email, will be mailed a ballot.

9. Ballots will be mailed no later than September 25th . With Unit Reports and members ability to modify

membership rosters, it is the responsibility of the individual to keep their contact information updated.

12. After the ballots are counted, the candidates will be informed of the “Un-Official” results by email.

14. The Election Coordinator shall prepare a written report detailing the election results, and shall pre-

sent it to the Board of Directors at the November Board Meeting.

To make this a smooth process, everyone needs to update and verify their On-line profile. Ensure that

you have a proper working email address and or a Valid Mailing address. If the family members are eligi-

ble to vote, then they too will need a working email. If it is a duplicate of the primary household member,

change it or delete the duplicate. If there is no email address, all the rest of the members over the age of

14 by August 31 2016, will receive a mail in Ballot around the 1st of October. It is due to be received by

the election Committee no later than October 31st. That does not mean post marked- It means received.

UGH! Change!! Relax, it will either work out or it won’t. If we approach this with a positive attitude, it

will be a lot smoother or a pile of horse manure and I will have to step in it. But as Col. Potter, (Harry

Morgan) once said, “It is just a tip toe through the tulips.”

Linked to the HOT Off The Press tab, on the WCWA Web page is the nomination Form.

From the Chairman;

Wow! 2016 Reenacting season has been a blast so far. I cannot say enough, about the awesome job the Deep Creek Event Committee did.

You all rock and the event was bar none the best. I also want to thank everyone who attended the Union Gap event, just shy of 400 re-

enactors, and 5000 spectators. This is the 5th year of the event and I cannot express how much we appreciate the City of Union Gap and the

Central WA AG Museum have done to make it what it has morphed into.

We still have 2 more events coming up. Snoqualmie is in just two weeks and next month Tri-cities. Only two events this season require units

to make numbers at, so if your unit has not made numbers by Snoqualmie, then I encourage you to enjoy the Columbia Park in Tri-Cities

September 17-18th.

It has been a pleasure and a rewarding experience for the last 6 years. But, it is time for some new blood.

Between taking on Membership, Vice Chair and Chairman, I feel it is time to take my leave from the Executive Board and get to play just Cav

guy for a while. I would like to see someone fill the Publicity Chair and take over the Facebook and advertising duties. I am still going to be

around and until someone gets drunk and wants to take on Union Gap, I will still do that. If the new Chairman wants, I will stay on as WEB

Master for a little while, again, if anyone else is interested, I would be happy to pass that on as well.

I think I have helped the club move a little further towards the future, but still kept the flavor of the past. Did I do everything right? Not even

close, it has been a bumpy ride, but an exciting ride none the less.

Sad to say but after 15 years of reenacting, the old SGM has to call it quits due to health reasons.

I have disposed of a lot of it to members but I still have the following to sell.

One like new Yakima 10x12 wall tent complete with fly.

Uniforms both blue and grey.

Table, chairs, books, canteen, etc..

The items will be with me in the Confederate camp at Snoqualmie.
