We all scream—and bark—for ice cream! Creating ice cream for your dog is quick and easy, using ingredients that you already have in the pantry. We love using fruits and vegetables that are in season for healthy frozen treats. We hope you enjoy this collection of some of our favorite dog ice cream and frozen treat recipes that can create in just minutes!

Before you get started…

We hope you’ll get creative with these frozen treat recipes for you and your dog, swapping out some of our suggestions for your favorites and for fruits that are in season. Before you pull out that blender, though, be sure to read through this list for foods you should NEVER feed your dog:

• Apricot pits

• Avocados

• Alcohol

• Apple seeds

• Cherry pits

• Chocolate

• Coffee (and other caffeinated drinks)

• Garlic: Some people feed small amounts but only in moderation. Ask your vet for

recommendations.

• Grapes and raisins: Because they are condensed, raisins are more dangerous than

grapes; avoid cereals and cookies with raisins.

• Macadamia nuts

• Onions

• Peach pits

• Persimmon seeds

• Plum pits

• Potato peels: Throw away the peel and any green portions of the potato.

• Tea

• Yeast dough: Uncooked dough is very dangerous to your dog.

• Xylitol: A sweetener used in some diet foods and sugar-free gums, it is highly

toxic to dogs.

What You Need Like many desserts, frozen treats you share with your dog can be as simple—or as fancy—as you choose. Best of all: your dog doesn’t care if the treats look pretty or not! Here’s a list of the basic items we use to create our frozen treats:

• Blender: great for crushing ice as well as pureeing fruit • Silicone molds: we have silicone molds that make fancy ice cubes, perfect for

bite-sized treats, cupcake-sized molds that are great for ice creams, and cake-sized molds that we use for sorbets and any desserts that need to be stirred during freezing.

• Small paper cups: great for making an individual-sized treat. We peel off the cup after freezing.

• Dog chews. Dogs aren’t too good about holding a pop by the handle so if you’d like to add a handle, drop your dog’s favorite long chew in the mix. Strips of homemade chicken jerky work great, too.

• Turkey baster. If you’d like to make bite-sized treats, a turkey baster is an easy way to get the mixture into the small trays! Another easy option is to put the mixture in a zippered plastic bag and snip out one corner.

Instructions Puree blueberries and yogurt in blender. Pour in ice cube trays and freeze. (No blender or short on time? Fill the ice cube tray with yogurt and drop two blueberries into each cube!) Serve frozen.

Almond Bites Ingredients 1 cup unsweetened almond milk ½ cup whole almonds Instructions Pour almond milk into molds and drop whole almonds (or almond slivers) into almond milk. Freeze.

Easy Coconut Pops Creamy coconut milk forms the base for this super easy treat. Add your favorite extras to the mix! Ingredients 1 can (10 ounces) coconut milk Instructions Shakecoconutmilkwellbeforeopening.Pourmilkintotraysormolds.Ifyou’dlike,sprinklewithcoconutflakesordropinblueberries,raspberries,oryourdog’sfavoritefruits.Freeze.

Layered Pops

OK, your dog doesn’t really care how beautiful these layered pops look but they make a fun option for a dog party! Freeze each layer separately and you can add a layer of blueberries for a red, white, and blue July 4th treat! Serve your human friends with a plastic pop mold; remove from handled mold for canine enjoyment. Ingredients 1 cup plain Greek yogurt 1 cup strawberry puree Instructions Pour yogurt into molds or an ice cube tray (a turkey baster makes this job easy), filling each mold halfway. Gently pour puree over the yogurt. Freeze.

Molasses Pop

Blackstrap molasses is a great ingredient for dogs—but if you’re not a big fan of molasses, cut this back to just ½ a teaspoon or delete. You can also substitute honey or agave honey as a sweetener if you prefer. Ingredients 1 cup plain yogurt ½ cup strawberry puree ¼ cup blackberry puree 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses (optional) Instructions Combine all ingredients completely then pour into molds and freeze. Because this is a fairly thick mixture, it makes a fun treat to add a dog chew or treat as a little “handle” for your dog.

We puree a container of strawberries at a time, hulling them and tossing them in the blender. It’s quick and easy to use the puree in a variety of ingredients in this cookbook and freeze the remainder for a future treat!

Peach Pops Ingredients 4 ripe peaches 1 cup plain Greek Yogurt Instructions Peel peaches; discard skin and pits. Chop peaches and blend with yogurt. Scoop into ice cube tray and freeze.

Dirty Banana Bites Ingredients 1 banana ½ cup peanuts Instructions Chop peanuts in blender or food processor. Peel banana and cut into four pieces. Roll banana slices in peanuts. Freeze on wax paper. You can substitute other nuts for the peanuts in this recipe…any nuts EXCEPT Macadamia nuts which are toxic to dogs.

Yogurt Dipped Fruit Ingredients ½ cup Greek or plain yogurt 1 cup fruit (strawberries, raspberries, bananas) Instructions Clean and core fruit. Dry. Dip fruit in yogurt. Place on wax paper and freeze.

Mango Ice Cream Ingredients 2 ripe mangoes, peeled Juice of 1 orange ½ cup unsweetened almond milk Instructions Add all ingredients to blender and puree. Pour mixture into a shallow silicone baking tray or in a silicone ice cube tray. Freeze overnight.

Coconut and Strawberry Swirls

Ingredients ½ cup strawberry puree ½ cup plain yogurt Instructions It doesn’t get much simpler than this! Mix and freeze. This recipe makes an easy base for modifying, too; substitute your dog’s favorite fruit for the strawberry, sweeten with a little honey, or add a dusting of nuts.
